Cardiff City cancel Juan Cala's contract as defender issues apology to Vincent Tan

The Spanish defender has left the club by mutual consent just weeks after accusing the Bluebirds of a lack of respect

Cardiff City defender Juan Cala has left the club after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

The Spanish defender issued an apology to Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan as his exit was confirmed, insisting the Cardiff owner had nothing to do with his exile to the Cardiff academy in recent weeks.

Cala, who has only made three appearances this season - two in the Capital One Cup - took to Twitter last week to accuse the club of a lack of respect over being forced to train with the club's youngsters.

He reportedly claimed Tan was behind the decision to banish him from the senior squad, an accusation he has now withdrawn.

He said: "I wish to apologise to Tan Sri Vincent Tan for my recent comments. He had nothing to do with my move to the academy," adding: "It was just my time at Cardiff City. Thank you very much to the fans for their support here."

An official statement from the club said: "Cardiff City can confirm that Juan Cala's contract with the club has been terminated by mutual consent.

"The player leaves Cardiff City with immediate effect.

"We would like to thank Juan for his contribution and wish him the very best for his future."

Cardiff boss Russell Slade denied Cala was being forced to train with the under-18s at the club's academy, saying he was doing rehabilitation work there instead.

He went onto say his continued omission from the team was a 'a management decision' and nothing to do with owner Tan.

In response to a question on whether Cala had been a disruptive influence, Slade said: "That’s not for me to comment on. Whether we ask for a fee will be an executive decision. I have made my feelings clear.

"I am sure Vincent Tan has a view, but it was a management decision.

"I have a lot of talented centre-halves here. A lot of good players. I saw it in the best interests of everyone for him to move on."

Just posted about his apology then, should've slated the ownership of the club more not apologised if he has left, its real shame as I really like him, he's about one of the only players that had any balls to say anything about the way he is being treated. Hope he moves on to a good club as he has some decent talent in him. :ayatollah:

I can see a few others leaving by "mutual consent" over the next few months.

Good work. 1 down numerous pieces of dead wood to go. Was behind our current centre back pairing, Bruno and Conelly in our managers eyes this was a no brainer.

terminating a contract is not good business. Obviously this shit got out of hand but i can't see how letting people leave on a free is good business.

He's not been treated any worse than any of the other players who cannot get into the playing squad!

Whilst the club has collected some players, who were only ever likely going to become squad players like confetti over the last few transfer windows, nobody forced any of these players to sign a contract and they should probably have asked for some assurances before they signed!

There has been loads of rumours flying around that Cala has been disruptive during his time at Cardiff and he didn't help his cause when he returned to Pre season training overweight!

Depends on how much money he was earning and whether we were likely to attract a transfer fee for him, given the many leaked reports of him being disruptive, whether there was any truth in the reports or not!

i doubt this is a free, with us paying 50% of his contract. You take "x" amount, we rip up the contract and you can go where you want, or here is a map to treforest and you have 3 years with the kids........

Why not. Cala wants to go and Tan wants him out. We could possibly get a small fee for him but then we have to wait until January, still paying his wages and hope that someone will pay what we want for him. On the other hand if the contract is mutually terminated it means he is a free agent, can negotiate a signing-on fee and go where he wants. Everyones a winner!

What a shame but money talks, even Ole went silent but that's how the world works, hopefully Tan won't be able to do this forever.

He has form for this already - isn't "mutually terminating his contract" the reason we were able to sign him after the January transfer window?

It makes him a free agent, and so he can sign for a new club immediately.

What ever you want to believe. But let me ask, have there ever been a member of staff or player leaving the club saying anything of their own opinion, something slightly critical of the way Tan runs things? Off course Cala agreed to apologize if he was to get mutual consent. He will probably not mention Slades or Tans name in public ever again :laughing6:

Are you sure Wez ?

By that I mean has Cala had his contracted terminated but paid up in full, if so then the wage bill is not affected by him leaving as his wages remaining on his contract have been paid.

I don't know if he has been paid up in full or a percentage has been paid but it would be foolish I believe to think he has gone without receiving any amount of his wages.
