Its YOU who hasn't read the report properly: A spokesman for the company was asked if Germanwings was stopping flights from Cardiff in 2015 and said: “Yes, we can confirm this information.”
The Cardiff Airport go on the defensive and say “The Dusseldorf - Cardiff route has operated successfully over the past two years as a summer only service focussed on bringing German visitors to Wales.
“During the past two years we have worked with Visit Wales to promote Wales as an attractive market to German originating tourism. There has been good success with passenger traffic between Germany and Wales increasing by 43% on the same period last year, with over 8000 German visitors flying to Cardiff during this period. Not only did passengers using the Dusseldorf – Cardiff route increase by 20%, in addition our KLM services which connect to 10 German airports have also seen a significant uplift as a result of the activity.
“The reports circulating today regarding the service for next year are misleading as we are in discussions with a number of airlines – including Germanwings, regarding continuing the development of services linking Wales to Germany for 2015 and beyond, which includes the Dusseldorf route. This is in line with good commercial practice.”
The bottom line is that the Airport can discuss as much as they want but the airport doesn't want to fly in and out of here anymore. Wake up and smell the coffee Alan

You beat me to it![]()
The original post is political spin at it's worst. Even if the airport isn't successful in attracting a replacement/renewal of this route it is still not a net loss as it was the current management that attracted it in the first place![]()
Given that it was clear this was a "summer only" flight what do you expect now we are in November![]()
Bottom line is that the airport was withering on the vine under the previous ownership, do you really think that the Welsh Assembly should have just let that happen ? Not exactly a great way to attract inward investement is it ? Whilst is may cost us money I'd rather the Welsh Assembly subsidise the airport, within reason, than leave foreign businessmen/tourists no way of flying to our wonderful country.

It is a massive shame that some people have no intentions of helping to promote existing routes and services, but instead waiting for routes to fail, to then criticise the airport.
Maybe if people helped to promote our airport, instead of waiting for routes to fail, then maybe it would not be as bad as it is now.

This was a once a week summer service on a 70 seater regional jet.
Germanwings are owned by Lufthansa who are struggling financially at the moment and are restructuring many other routes.
Hardly the end of the world.

The voice of reason - a once a week flight which is dependant on holiday makers spending a week in Wales. What is needed is a greater choice of destinations, a greater frequency at a reasonable price - but then that's what everyone has been calling out for - I think it's called a low cost airline![]()
It would help if people got behind the Airport and the Assembly rather than take every opportunity to run them down

They should give us something to support it rather than the facts that more are running away than being attracted since the takeover with OUR money

I've got a good idea....let's return the airport to private owners....after all it was doing so f*cking well wasn't it?? Not so long ago it had over 2 million passengers a year but the last owners managed to get that figure down to less than 1 million. That was really useful for south Wales wasn't it?? Give it a f*cking rest FFS.

Have to wonder how much longer this airport can remain open. Used to fly from Cardiff at every opportunity years back, but now can only fly from Bristol or Gatwick to my usual destination. Have'nt been able to use Cardiff for probably the best part of 10 years.

If the WAG wanted to it could "arrange" for the size of the runway to be increased and also "arrange" for free/cheaper runway fees for the airlines.
The result would be more flights into South Wales. Benefits to the communities in both West and South Wales and economic improvements as well.
