Cardiff City star Mats Daehli admits he could leave Bluebirds as he warns: 'This can't continue'

The Cardiff City playmaker has spoken out about his future for the first time after being left out of the Bluebirds squad for the last three matches
“I had a chat with Russell Slade, but what was said will have to remain just between the two of us.”
Cardiff City star Mats Daehli has admitted he could leave the club in January as he warned boss Russell Slade his current exile from the team cannot continue.
The talented 19-year-old has been out of favour at the Bluebirds since fellow Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was replaced by Slade as manager last month.
Daehli has not started a match since September 30 and has been completely left out of the match-day squad for the last three matches against Leeds, Bolton and Birmingham.
The Cardiff boss has insisted Daehli’s situation is being aggravated by a hip injury and he will meet with Daehli’s agent, Jim Solbakken, this week to thrash out the player’s future.
But Daehli himself admits he is unhappy at the club due to his lack of pitch time, warning he may be forced to leave if things do not improve.
“My situation at Cardiff is not optimal at all at the moment,” he said.
“A month without playing is OK, but it can’t continue like this to be honest We will have to see about a move in January, but I need to play now.
“I had a chat with Russell Slade, but what was said will have to remain just between the two of us.”
Daehli, who is rated as one of the hottest prospects in Norwegian football, enjoyed a close working relationship with Solskjaer after their time together at Manchester United and Norwegian club Molde.
But he has been unable to find a spot in Slade’s rigid 4-4-2 system despite becoming a fans’ favourite with his performances last season.
Slade himself is keeping his options open when it comes to the teenager’s future at the club, but is adamant the Bluebirds will be seeking a big transfer fee if the youngster does leave.
The Cardiff manager said: “At this moment in time I am not looking to move him on and it would take a big fee for him leave.
“Mats is not as happy as he could be because he wants to play. It could be possible Mats may be sold or loaned out, but he could also be here for another two years.”

This all stinks
What the hell is going on Vincent Tan?
Mon Nov 10, 2014 6:11 pm
Seems the club are isolating and want to offload some of the better the better players. Daehli needs first team football to maintain his Norway appearances.

Not playing, not in the squad, Daehli say himself he is fit, but old Russell will only sell him for a big fee. Think it's obvius what is going on
Mon Nov 10, 2014 6:14 pm
Doesn't mention any injuries?
Bet he plays for Norway!
Mon Nov 10, 2014 6:18 pm
This is shocking if we allow him to leave , he should be playing , I'm giving Slade time but I think he seriously needs to use different players in his 20 man squad( I would use a squad of 25 not 20) than he is currently using. If it was me my 20 man squad would not include Gabbidon or Maynard , I would put Daeli and Guerra in

It does in the original interview. He is fit to go and has been all the way. The hip thing is minor and contained by treatment he says.

Daehli is not injured, 100% fit and raring to play.
I believe Tan and Ole have fallen out over the contract etc
So watch out for anyone close to Ole.
This is not Slades fault,he is just Tans puppet.
I thought our club could not get any worse, its far worse than a circus.

It really does look that way.

Let's not get carried away here. He has very little pace and his defensive work is poor . Don't believe the bull that the press wrote about him being wanted by united and many others . If they did they would have got him.
Mon Nov 10, 2014 6:31 pm
I could understand him being dropped earlier in the season as he was out of form and looking very lightweight
However not even having him in the match day squad is staggering,

Doesn't tell us any thing really? Question is what was said at meeting? & if tan involved why does Slade say mats not for sale! As surely that would be tans idea sell him? Maybe Slade just doesn't know where to fit him in team?
Mon Nov 10, 2014 6:32 pm
WARNING Agenda thread alert! Team selection is nothing to do with Tan, Slade picks the team! Although I'm sorry to see Daehli leave, I believe he will be great in the future.
Mon Nov 10, 2014 6:32 pm
If we don't play our better players then we do not win matches , if we don't win matches then no hope of promotion , no promotion and tan wont get his money back - does not add up at all

So then Slade is truly mad, putting 3 cb on the bench, pretending players are injured. Great man managing skills and communication attaché. His players must be so proud

Any other manager in the league would love a player like Matts and build their team around such a talented player
If Russell Slade says he can't fit him in to the side then he is not in a fit state to be a manager of a championship side
I now worry about our coaching staff who seem to be totally inept when it comes to team tactics
An example is how Mick McCarthy fits Jonny Williams into the Ipswich side,he has the free run of the park.
He tore us to shreds at the city stadium
Even Dave Jones managed with Jason Kumas in the same role and he was a 442 lover
I have to say that at the moment it looks like Slade wants a rigid 442 with no football talent just workhorses
No promotion for us this season with that football philosophy
Mon Nov 10, 2014 6:45 pm
What tan wants he gets.. Slades not stupid he must see the talent mats has

RS is on record saying Daehli is injured but I bet he will play for Norway against Azerbaijan on Sunday because VT is powerless to stop him, not the case with Cardiff City where RS is expected to have his team selection approved by VT before informing the team. OGS at the end was expected to do the same but wouldn't and left calling it a difference in football philosophy.
I hope Mats gets a transfer in January because his career will suffer whilst he remains at the circus which is VT Cardiff City FC.

I'll say it again......
I'd rather Slade goes and take his lack of ambition with him than Daelhi leave.
Managers like Slade are two-a-penny but Daelhi is a rare talent.
Mon Nov 10, 2014 6:56 pm
So it boils down to Slade being tans puppet according to people in this thread? And same people says tan needs promotion? Mmmm won't get it if he stops manager picking best team!!

or i guess tan wants both things!!

shame Slade as no principles but then last 2 managers didn't have any either?
Mon Nov 10, 2014 7:00 pm
I agree with that statement
I was excited for this season to watch Matts run rings around every one in the championship
As far as I'm concerned if Slade doesn't know how to play him then go and take Scott Young with you

Hang on, what are you saying?
That VT does not want Daelhi to play? because he is a friend of OGS? and VT has fallen out with OGS??
I heard you have been ill, but didn't realise you have been on heavy medication
Mon Nov 10, 2014 7:08 pm
Daelhi is one of most talented youngsters I've seen in a city shirt!!
Slade can jog on ridiculous decision to let him leave

Daehli was an absolute bargain for Cardiff. Selling him after a year for what they paid would be no achievement at all. Huge potential.
True that. Shortsighted leadership at our club.

Did he say mats was leaving? Must have missed that bit as he said didn't want him to leave, but every player as a price!

Massively underwhelmed by Daehli this season. Hasn't looked remotely good enough when picked. He needs to knuckle down, impress the manager and make himself undroppable rather than start pimping himself around for a move. All that is wrong with the modern day footballer with his attitude.

When did Slade pick him? Did attacking players take more kindly to 3 cb on the bench in the old days?

All I will say is Matt Daehli is a high Class Championship player at the very least
Most were singing his praises, why are some now having ago at him?
He is an honest lad, keeps fit and is class, plus he will go places

Ok, this smells SO rotten. 99 percent sure that VT is involved in this, and i think it have something to do with OGS and money.
Call me a conspiracy nut, but what i have learned about how VT playes his games - well i will say no more.
Just wait and see.
