Cardiff will be without striker Kenwyne Jones when they make the trip north.
The former Sunderland forward has flown back to Trinidad after a family tragedy.

Pilkinghton did not travel, due to a virus.

Pilkington is a doubt for the Bolton match - and that could open the door for Morrison. His silky skills and awareness would certainly give Cardiff an edge going forward and if Russell Slade is convinced he can do the defensive work as well he could get the nod.

Once again Russell Slade looks set to name the same team/squad for the 5th match running.

City have won 3 of their last 4 games under new manager Russell Slade, but not won away this season.

' BOLTON '

Neil Lennon is Bolton's new manager.

Bolton are without both Kevin McNaughton and Joe Mason against the pair's parent club Cardiff.

David Wheater could be back on the bench after returning to full training following a back problem, while Liam Trotter (hamstring) may be drafted in for his first start under Neil Lennon.

Hope I'm wrong but this week might well be reality check time again.

Bolton have been ok at home and Brum. will be working hard to impress the new manager. A point at each would be ok in the overall scheme of things, and considering how poor we have been away from home this season.

As I said, hope I'm wrong.

Preview: Bolton Wanderers vs. Cardiff City

Sunday, November 2, 2014

Cardiff City will be looking for their fourth win in five matches when they travel to the Macron Stadium to face Bolton Wanderers in the Championship on Tuesday.

The Welsh side have seen a resurgence under Russell Slade, which included a 3-1 win over Leeds United yesterday, seeing them climb to 11th in the table.

The manager could be without striker Kenwyne Jones for the trip though, as he has had to fly home to Trinidad and Tobago following a "family tragedy".

Anthony Pilkington had to go off at half time after struggling with an illness on Saturday, and it is not clear whether he will be available for this game.

Meanwhile, Bolton will be hoping for a third win in six to move them out of the relegation zone.

The Trotters lost 2-1 to Norwich City at the weekend, leaving them 23rd in the table, a point behind Birmingham City above them.

Neil Lennon could leave Jay Speaking out of his starting lineup for this match after admitting that the midfielder's half-time substitution on Friday evening was purely tactical.

These two sides did not play in the league last season, but Cardiff did knock Bolton out of the FA Cup in January.

Joe ralls will probably have more of a chance of starting than Morrison after Saturdays evidence

I think Ravel excites most City fans when he plays.
I also think, due to his injury & his lack of game time, he has much more to show us.

BOLTON v CARDIFF

Sport News 24/7

Neil Lennon has guided Bolton to two wins from his four matches in charge, but the Trotters remain in the Championship relegation zone.

BOLTON KICKOFF LINE-UP v CARDIFF

Kevin McNaughton is ineligible to face his former club, so youngster Oscar Threlkeld is set to deputise again after impressing against Norwich.

The other three members of our chosen back-four have each appeared in at least 75% of the available playing time for Bolton in the Championship this season.

Matt Mills, Dorian Dervite and Tim Ream have clocked up 333 Championship starts between them, so there will be plenty of experience to call upon.

Lee Chung-Yong was one of the better performers at Carrow Road last weekend, grabbing his first goal of the season four minutes from time.

The South Korea international is second only to Joe Mason in terms of goals scored for Bolton in their last 20 Championship matches.

Although he has only netted twice at the Reebok Stadium in 2014, both of these strikes have put the Trotters 1-0 up.

Cardiff City set to be without Anthony Pilkington for Bolton Wanderers clash
Nov 03, 2014

By Simon Gaskell
Pilkington has not travelled with the squad ahead of the match at the Macron Stadium

Russell Slade faces a dilemma over whether to unleash Cardiff City’s creative midfield forces against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night - with Anthony Pilkington set to be ruled out with illness.

Pilkington hasn’t travelled to Lancashire with the squad due to a virus, opening up a berth in the Bluebirds’ midfield.

Slade could turn to mercurial loan man Ravel Morrison or little maestro Mats Moller Daehli as the Bluebirds chase a first away win since April against the struggling Trotters.

Also in contention is Joe Ralls, who has already made five appearances this season and may offer a steadier presence.

Slade’s hand has been forced after naming an unchanged line-up for the last three games against Ipswich Town, Millwall and Leeds United.

He revealed Pilkington would, in all likelihood, miss the Bolton clash despite having what he described as an ‘outside chance’ of making the squad.

The Bluebirds are also without Kenwyne Jones after he flew home to Trinidad to comfort relatives after the tragic death of two cousins in an alleged shooting.

Speaking on Monday, Slade said: “Anthony has a virus and almost certainly won’t be ready to play at Bolton.

"He hasn’t travelled with the group, but there is an outside chance he could make the trip on Tuesday if he feels a lot better.

“My feeling is, though, that he will miss the Bolton match and we will see how he is for this Saturday at Birmingham.

“It’s a blow if we are without Anthony and Kenwyne Jones, but we have a strong squad and we will go to Bolton looking to win the match.”

The Bluebirds will be looking to end a run of wretched form on the road which hasn’t seen them taste victory away from the Cardiff City Stadium since defeating Southampton at St Mary’s in the Premier League on April 12.

Bolton have endured a torrid start to their campaign - they lie second-bottom of the Championship after picking up 11 points from 15 games.

Neil Lennon takes charge of tonight’s game amid a backdrop of takeover talk, with chairman Phil Gartside reported to have been in Thailand on Monday conducting discussions.

Thai entertainment company BEC-Tero and Siam Sport Syndicate were previously linked with a joint bid.

' Only three points will do for Cardiff City striker Federico Macheda '

Tuesday 4 November 2014 in Bolton Wanderers
by Neil Bonnar

IN-form striker Federico Macheda is aiming to fire Cardiff to a first Championship away win of the season at the Macron stadium tonight.

The Bluebirds striker has netted in three of his last four games under new boss Russell Slade – all in home victories.

But City have found life tough travelling outside Wales so far, picking up just four points from a possible 21.

Ex-Manchester United man Macheda knows that needs to change and hopes it will start tonight.

The Italian forward said: “We have won our last three home matches and now we have to pick up points away.

“Our next match is at Bolton and if we want to get into the top six and go up we must look to go and win that.

“It’s time to start winning away from Cardiff City Stadium – and now is the perfect time for us.

“I don’t know why we haven’t won away. There have been times when we’ve been unlucky, but we have the chance at Bolton to show we have the ability and character to earn the wins we need.”

Whites boss Neil Lennon is wary of the threat Macheda and his team-mates pose but is positive about his team's chances of piling on more away-day misery for Slade.

Lennon told The Bolton News: “They had a couple of wins and then lost to Millwall.

“We had them watched on Saturday and we will assess what personnel to use and how to approach it.

“They have a good bend of pace and power up front.

“They have players who can score goals at this level like Macheda, Le Fondre and Kenwyne Jones.

“But we’d like to think at home we can give anyone a game.

“We will respect Cardiff obviously.

“Russell has gone in there and given them an added stimulus.

“He is a manager who knows Leagues One and Two and the Championship very well.

“He is very consistent manager who did brilliantly at Orient and I understand why he was chosen by Cardiff.

“We have to be at our best.”

SKY BET CHAMPIONSHIP

Match Preview: Bolton v Cardiff
BY BEN REARDON ⋅ NOVEMBER 4, 2014 ⋅
Venue: The Macron Stadium

Date and time: 4/11/14 AT 20:00

Bolton Wanderers host Cardiff City on Tuesday evening at the Macron Stadium, in a Skybet Championship fixture.

Bolton face Cardiff City
The Trotters head into the game coming off the back of two wins and two defeats in Neil Lennon’s opening four Championship fixtures, since succeeding Dougie Freedman as manager in October.

Bolton are currently 23rd in the second tier, two points below 21st placed Brighton and Hove Albion, following the weekend fixtures.

Wanderers’ last outing was a 2-1 defeat away at Norwich City on Friday evening, with Cameron Jerome netting a brace to give the Canaries all three points at Carrow Road. Lee Chung Yong scored a consolation for Bolton late on.

Meanwhile, Cardiff make the trip to the North West also boasting a new manager, in the guise of Russell Slade.

Slade’s appointment has coincided with a upturn in fortune for the recently relegated club.

Cardiff have enjoyed impressive victories of recent late, with the latest one coming in a 3-1 home win against Leeds United. The Welsh outfit have also beat Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest in recent weeks, and currently lie in 11th place in the table on 22 points.

Team News: Bolton

Team-news wise, and goalkeeper Adam Bogdan is still out injured with a broken finger, therefore, Andrew Lonergan will continue his stint in goal for Neil Lennon’s side.

Fullback Kevin McNaughton, and striker Joe Mason are also both ineligible to face their parent club due to their season long loan agreement between Bolton and the Bluebirds.

Mason’s absence will mean that Craig Davies and Jermaine Beckford will presumably lead the line up-front for the struggling Bolton side, with youngster Max Clayton also vying for a starting place against Cardiff.

Aside from Bogdan’s injury, Bolton will be without Stuart Holden (knee) and Marc Tierney, whom both are currently recovering from serious long-term injuries they have suffered from.

The fixture against Cardiff may also come too soon for centre back David Wheater, who has stepped up his recovery from a recent set-back by playing in the Under 21 games.

Team News: Cardiff

Cardiff are set to be without striker Kenwyne Jones for the trip to the Macron Stadium, with the striker flying home to Trinidad following a family bereavement.

City are also likely to be without Anthony Pilkington for the mid-week game, with the midfielder doubtful after coming under illness following the win over Leeds on Saturday.

One player who will definitely missing the game is Kagisho Dikgacoi, with the former Crystal Palace midfielder set to be out for around four months following a serious knee injury.

“We’ve had a scan and he could be out for 16 weeks,” said manager Russell Slade.

“He’s done a lot of damage to his knee.”

Norwegian youngster Mats Møller Dæhli, and recent loan recruit from West Ham, Ravel Morrison, are both fit and set to battle for a potential starting place.
