" Gunnarsson's treatment "

Sun Oct 05, 2014 8:30 pm

I came home from Blackpool earlier, I was no different to any other City fan Friday night. I left the stadium dejected, totally embarrassed with our performance, but I also left feeling very sad and sorry for Aron Gunnarsson. We all know Gunnarsson isn't the most technically gifted player in the world, but regardless of whether he has a good game or a bad game, he will do what very little of our current squad will do - always give his all for us.

If we had a team all running theirselves into the ground from the first second to the last like Gunnarsson, we will not be struggling. Gunnarsson was the only player with the balls to walk over to the fans after the final whistle to acknowledge us. Although I agreed with the City fans chanting "what the f**king hell was that", the abuse directed to Gunnarsson, a player who will never let us down effort wise was a disgrace. Some of the comments I heard about Gunnarsson leaving the ground were embarrassing!

You can guarantee nobody is hurting about that result more than Gunnarsson. So because Gunnarsson was the only player to walk over to acknowledge the fans, the abuse which should have been dished out to the whole team was instead all dished out to himself. When the players don't acknowledge us, we moan. When the players do acknowledge us, we hurl abuse at them unless we win. If Gunnarsson chooses not to acknowledge the fans ever again after the abuse he had to take Friday, I will not blame him one bit.

We were all frustrated, but comments such as "Gunnarsson can f**k off, I wish the c**t was dead" are disgraceful. I will always defend Gunnarsson because unlike the majority of our gutless squad, he gives his all. Others should be criticised for lack of effort, but not Gunnarsson. I felt very sorry for him.

I get your point pal.. Gunnarsson is a trier and a grafter you gotta give that to him. He hunts the ball and breaks up play well for me, I be honest I have slated him in the past but I think he is having a good season so far this year and can't get why he is having such had reviews, his main attribute is him tackling hunting the ball and breaking up play maybe this simple stuff is going un noticed by some fans because like you say he isn't blessed with huge amount of technique and skill.

Im sure he wont lose sleep over it, I agree he puts the effort in but in my opinion he aint good enough.

I'm a fan of Gunnarsson, one of our best players so far this season

At least he came right over to the fans at the end and didn't deserve the personal abuse, especially from one idiot who felt the need to climb up on the fencing by the pitch

I felt it was OTT myself and i saw gunnars looked gutted. Mind u didn't have a good game did he. Can't keep playing him and whitts in mid at the same time so gunnarson will have to go.

Well done Jack me too, I salute you! Why people pick on one of our better players instead of that waste of space Whittingham I'll never know

After the final whistle gunnarsson was the only player to come over to us and applaud us. I think my Mrs was the only person who went to the front and applauded him back. She was tamping at our fans response to the players but i said after that performance i can see why they feel that way myself included. But looking back i do feel sorry him and perhaps we should back the team but at times they have to be accountable to.

one of the best city players overall this season, gives 100% every time. He plays for the badge and if he could get the others around him to do the same, we would be towards the top of the league

Doesn't deserve abuse, but in my opinion not good enough...

Fair play, some of our fans are total and utter tossers. Shouldn't surprise me though, we've always had our fair share of tossers!

Good post and he doesn't deserve that. I remember how visibly upset he was when he dislocated his shoulder when playing against Slovenia - not from pity but from frustration that he knew he'd properly crocked himself and what it meant. I think its taken him quite a while to recover from that injury and his trademark long throw-in was conspicuous by its absence. Good on him for acknowledging our fans at the end, I understand the frustrations but some need to have a word with themselves.

Been decent recently. Still think he's a better impact player who tidies play up off the bench

If you was a player would you run through a brick wall for this fickle support!! One week a hero the next a scape goat.

The booing of Whitts and the clapping of Ramseys goal were one of the lowest days supporting the city, and i have been embarrassed beyond belief with some of our away fans anticts over the years....

Gunnerson, Whitts, Marshall do care. If they have a poor game or are out of position, they still try.

Fabio reminds me of bellers, he may not love the club, but loves the game and the personal battles so always gives 100&. If he stays I would make him vice captain until turner returns.

It's wrong to give him stick when he makes an effort to come over to the fans, but for all his effort he is pretty rubbish........

He shouldnt be singled out for abuse but he shouldnt be in the team. The quality we have in CM is worrying.

Sorry latcher, figure of speech - i didn't mean the beer mat badge but you catch my drift............ he appears to care for Cardiff City

Let's be honest, Gunnar is a limited player who does give the impression he gives a toss but he is just to slow for his role.

I have wanted Whittingham dropped for a while now, but he just keeps on getting picked. He is a luxury, and cannot justify his place just because he may sling in a half decent cross.

Maybe Slade can get something else out of PW, but he really is limited in his options given his complete lack of speed.

Speaking of Gunnarsson, back then there was rumours saying Gunnarson leaked the team to Palace and then after that it went all quiet!!

How The F*ck Was He Linked to that rumour?

Re: " Gunnarsson's treatment "

Gunnars has generally played well this season and doesn't deserve abuse. In fact, any abuse is going to destroy confidence. Le Fondre hasn't once looked like scoring, yet always has people defending him!

Re: " Gunnarsson's treatment "

Mon Oct 06, 2014 6:17 pm

There is no need to abuse players whoever they are for playing badly you can let them no that collectively or individually that you thought they had bad game but personal abuse ie foul mouth insults is not right. There appears to be small number of fans both at home and away who love to yell abuse at players and most are in the stands where the so called diehard super supporters are they need to stop sniffing the barmaids apron and watch games sober they may not be so abusive then. There was similar uncalled for abuse at game at port vale when keeper was subject of vile abuse from minority

Good post. Agree with every word of that. The passion and emotion Gunnarsson shows is second to none and that's why he's Iceland's captain.
