Former Cardiff City boss Dave Jones up for sensational Bluebirds return as Vincent Tan considers all options

Jones remains among the favourites to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with Cardiff pondering whether to introduce a director of football role
Former Cardiff City boss Dave Jones is understood to be keen on making a sensational return to the Bluebirds as he remains among the favourites to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=147782Jones is looking to step back into management after being sacked by Sheffield Wednesday in December, and he is believed to be hopeful Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan will consider making contact in the coming days.
The 58-year-old's chances of returning to the club he spent six years in charge of could, however, be in a director of football role as Tan ponders altering Cardiff's managerial structure following Solskjaer's ill-fated reign.
Rookies Danny Gabbidon and Scott Young, who will lead the team against Derby on Saturday, have admitted they would be keen to carry on in their new coaching roles, with club sources revealing they could be given the chance to impress beyond a single match.
Jones, who was axed as Cardiff chief in 2011, is known to be admired by Bluebirds backer Tan who wanted to bring him back to the club before Solskjaer's appointment in January.

I've feared this could be the case for a while. First red them DJ coming back. Can it get any worse?

Do you think if Jones came in January we would of stayed up

A much better choice than what we are seeing touted about today.

What I think will happen..
Scott Young - Manager
Danny Gabbidon - Assistant manager
Dave Jones - Director of Football

Yep, if Pullis isn't in the frame then that looks a decent set-up ! However, any disasters tomorrow and we're back to square one !

Dave Jones as manager i take, because i can see us bringing someone in daft. While Dave Jones is there i give him a short term deal and see how things pan out.

DJ as DOF. Got a good few contacts in the game, hence how he got Chopra and Bothroyd so cheaply.
Fri Sep 19, 2014 10:33 pm
Yep they took us all the way those 2 eh? How many years if blowing it in row was it?
Fri Sep 19, 2014 10:53 pm

i cant believe what im hearing when is tan and the board gonna stop dicking around and get someone in that could actually take us somewhere, we must be the only club looking at managers that have passed or ones with no experience or very little its like as if tan wants us to fail, I cant get my head round it all i think the only thing i know for sure....if tan keeps going the way he is there wont be any fans in the stadium and we will all be watching the football league show more often if we stay in it......who is really gonna honestly say they cant wait to renew there season ticket

The failures of those times were hard but some of the football was quite decent to watch.
At least we had chops when he was good, and jay only went shit at the end. Championship strikers don't get an England call up for nothing. Don't remember just the bad.

God no, please don't let it be true....
Gabbidon, Young and Dave Jones - would be like the blind leading the blind!!!
I have the utmost respect for Scott Young and Gabbidon but to throw them into this scenario would like putting lambs to the slaughter - escpecially if they have to take guidance from a man who has been sacked quite a few time and in the latter stages at Cardiff City showed tactical naivety time and time again and didn't have the minerals to get us out of the championship!! - Sorry but if this was the option I would rather have seen OGS remain in charge...
f*cking Joke.....
Time like this I wish Eddie May (RIP_ was still with us - imagine what he would do with all that talent at his disposal...
Tan looking for a more contintental set up in terms of management is ridiculous, who the f**k is advising him on football matters - the court jester??? Why be so blind as to not fancy Tony Pulis? He's Welsh, wants the job, and above all has a proven pedigree (though some don't like his style of play) - TAN you're a f*cking idiot!!

Got no issues with Dave Jones coming back as Director of Football, got some great contacts in the game and has always been on good speaking terms with the tops managers for when it came to loan signings.
I hear Kevin Cooper is in line to take over from Ole with Scott Young as his assistant which would be a good move, KC has been a great success for us with developing good players with pace which has always been the way he's tried to implement it into our development squad, I'm sure this would be his style if play with the 1st Team.

Bothroyd was cheap because his career was in free fall. DJ really turned around his career and even got his international cap

I actually have no problem with recruiting from within, does this mean that Tan is committing to long term strategy? Surely he can't expect this set-up to bare fruit immediately.
If tan really believes this set-up will get a promotion this season then I want to try the powerful drugs he's on, cos i would like to be lifted to the fantasy world too as I got the weekend off

Dave hands always in pockets jones!!
Club makes one step forward then two backwards!
Are we forgetting how he treated Adam Matthews Because he scored one og yet he continued with lee Naylor week in week out! His option of not playing Ramsey?? He treated the youngsters terrible and never gave them an opp. Always went with has beens.. J Lloyd Samuel??? They guy was a nightmare! Y on earth would we want his one dimensional football back, how may games did we lose after going 1-0 down? Loads!! He had no plan b!! We sacked him once for god sake!!

It would be a disaster for the club to appoint from within as we do not have the quality or experience required. If this happens it suggests that the club are looking more to the long term rather than seeking an immediate return to the promised land.
I thought Mr. Tan wanted to return to the Premiership at the earliest opportunity?

The circus continues, we're all in the dark now as he really can't expect premiership football next year, the mixed messages have confused us all. He has gone from assembling one of the most expensive squads in the history of championship football, to wanting to employ ex players with no experience (Gabbs) and experience of LOW management.
We're all scratching our heads at the moment!

Frustratingly too! The options are there and I doubt they would be 4million pound like ole was on! Baffles me!,

If DJ is going to be doing the transfer dealing, he had a good record with us of getting players in and selling on for good money, I can see the attraction VT has for D.O.F I really believe that VT will want to buy his own players and pass it on to DJ to get the deal done. That is my opinion and will not be shared by many

When DJ last managed City, he had a very limited budget and the squad was nowhere as good as the present crop of players. He could only dream of the sort of financial backing MM and OGS have enjoyed.
He gained a reputation for being the bridesmaid rather than the bride when it came to promotion as the club stumbled from one playoff disappointment to another. This is a little unfair as we know how hard it is to get over the line in this league.
I have never been a fan of DJ's because of the brand of football he tends to adopt, but could the better resources allow him to expresse a more creative side?
Who knows? I guess there's only one way to find out!

So our decision makers, the powers that be, ADMIRE Dave Jones. Says it all. Words fail me. I love my club but my Season ticket edging closer to the bin, I have my limits!!!!!!!!

You said it mate, he couldn't get us promoted.
We are rewarding failure and stepping backwards.
