The 37-year-old Dundee manager is now the bookmakers' favourite and we understand Cardiff have made contcat with him
Dundee manager Paul Hartley has emerged as the shock favourite to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Cardiff City boss.
Hartley's odds of taking the role plummeted from 20/1 relative outsider to clear 2/5 favourite with bookmakers late last night as the Bluebirds launched their hunt for a new manager.
Solskjaer's departure is expected to be confirmed this morning after he agreed to leave Cardiff City Stadium yesterday following a dismal run of results.
Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan is keen to make a quick appointment and hopes to have his new man in place before Saturday's trip to Derby County.
Fans' choice Tony Pulis remains second favourite for the job at 4/1, with the likes of Neil Lennon, Glenn Hoddle and MK Dons boss Karl Robinson all among the candidates.
Former Blackpool boss Paul Ince, who is 33/1 with bookies, has also received significant backing with punters, while the likes of Craig Bellamy and ex-Bluebirds boss Dave Jones are also in the picture.
Former Scotland international Hartley is seen as a young manager with great potential after leading Dundee to promotion to the Scottish Premiership last season. They currently lie fifth in the table after an impressive start to their campaign.
Hartley previously lead Alloa Athletic to consecutive promotions after moving into management following an impressive playing career. He represented his country 25 times and played for Hearts and Celtic among others.

I'd be very shocked at this when Tony Pulis is available AND apparently he's interested!! Hmmm....

Tony Pulis has once again made it clear through his agent and papers he wants the City job.

Hartley is a very bad move
No experience

Maybe to work alongside someone?
Hope not, just seems like another mistake.

This might not be so negative. He has delivered at the level he was at.
His career has 3 consecutive promotions, all be it at a lower level.
In the world of business someone like this would be given a bigger opportunity.
I'm not 100% against this, I see some logic to it, but admit it is a gamble.
My choice would be Pulis, but I see VT's logic.

Dundee will fight tooth and nail to rebuff any interest from Cardiff City in manager Paul Hartley.
Overnight the Dark Blues boss emerged as favourite to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the Welsh club.
And it’s understood Hartley is high on the list of the people they want to interview for the job.
Word from Wales is that they were planning to contact Dens Park today to seek permission to speak to him.
So far that hasn’t happened, but the Dens board are aware of the situation and ready to battle to keep the man they regard as the best young team boss in the country.
They believe he is at the start of something special with the Dark Blues.
There is an acceptance if they’re right one day a bigger club will lure Hartley away, but there is a determination not to let that happen for several seasons.

I find Pulis intensely irritating but respect his achievements as a manager. However, Hartley would appear to be a bit of a gamble, as was Solskjaer. I'd take Pulis over Hartley any day.☝️

If Pulis is touting for the job and we don't go for him and go for a relative novice then the only rational explanation I can think of is that there is something leftover from the team leaking stuff from last year or that our board don't want someone who is clearly going to be very popular with the fans.
If this comes true it just doesn't make sense and you have to question tan or his advisors once again as most clubs in our situation would jump at the chance for Pulis yet a lot of clubs in our situation wouldn't have a dogs chance of getting him.

Much of what you've written also applies to OGS &'what a disaster that was.

Whoever gets appointed needs our support, However, as shown already, that won't happen,

I'm sure Hartley is a good up and coming manager but when will we EVER get the opportunity to appoint the CURRENT Premier League Manager of the Year.
If the club did not get Pulis it stinks.
The board will show themselves as self absorbed and not willing to hand over the full footballing side to the manager.
If they read ANY of the social media or message boards they should know EXACTLY what they need to do.

My first choice would be Pulis.
But I like the way PH interviews, he is clear, focused and straight to the point. None on this media charm.

I think that the majority of fans would be disappointed with this appointment if it happens. Why don't the club play safe and go with a PROVEN manager at Championship/ Premiership level?
Surely after Ole, the club could do without taking a gamble on another manager who does not have that experience. There are plenty of managers out there at the moment with that experience and they are available.
If the gamble does not pay off, this time next year we will be looking for another manager!

Hasn't Tan learnt his lesson. He's not what we need at the moment.

I disagree.
For the first time in my life as a City supporter I will stop blindly supporting the clubs decisions and therefore the team.
The rebrand was (supposedly) a business decision. Not a good decision but it didn't affect !y support of the football.
Making appalling decisions on the footballing side is the end for me especially as the right decision is obvious to everyone.
The board and Tan, with this next decision, will show me whether they are doing the job for the club and the game or they are just your usual power hungry businessmen unable to give up a bit of power.
Thu Sep 18, 2014 8:03 am
Got to agree with Wayne S on this, I was just thinking this morning have we reached the point where the Club sees what the fans want then go the opposite way. very strange that if Pullis is available why are they not biting his hand off as he is exactly what we need ASAP.

This is concerning.......

To me we don't want Pullis, yes he is a good manager but he is coming to end of his career, we need a young manager, maybe with someone experienced in background, .time to move forward.

So basically the board/ owner has learned **** all from the previous experience of appointing an inexperienced manager....

Paul Hartley!!!!!
My god that would be a shocking appointment. Better off sticking with OGS and the players he's purchased.
I'd be surprised & shocked if your club wanted Hartley.

They have learn't the lesson. I just get the feeling they are anti-fans. Perhaps we should have a protest against Pulis joining us.
