People offered to drive Kenwyn in the close season. Look stupid now don't they? Give him a chance. Hardly had much game time or a chance to build up an understanding with our other strikers...plus the fact that our midfield has hardly had the ball so hasn't exactly created many chances. I just don't understand all the negative posts about our players. We have a very good squad. :bluescarf:

i still dont understand why we started maynard before the other strikers we have brought in.... :ayatollah:

Hope not, undoubtedly a really good player and slowly getting back to fitness. Feel really sorry for him with that injury, be of the best strikers in the league before it

I would let him go on loan with a recall clause. We have four other strikers who I rate higher. It gives Maynard the chance to get sharper and improve confidence with some goals. We could benefit from this later in the season.

Logically that would be the best solution then we could see how he develops ,allowing us to use the abundance of options we have up front with already with the safety net of recalling him back should the need be.

Get rid and recall Mason

Re: Nicky Maynard

Thu Aug 28, 2014 3:12 am

Jones, Le Fondre, Macheda and Guerra are good enough, Maynard looks to be the worst and having 5 strikers at one time is just overkill. We can always stick a recall clause incase of an injury crisis.

Personally I always thought he would be better than he has been for us.

6 games in 17 days during September will mean we will need all our players, including Nicky Maynard, and unless we sign another forward Nicky will play his part in those games.

Gary on that note, I agree with you, we need him in the squad.

Re: Nicky Maynard

I thought Ole wanted a group of 5 competing strikers and Maynard has been given plenty of game time so far. Sure there is anything into these rumors? But with everybody back from injuries, he would probable be fifth choice, so maybe it makes sense after all.

Macheda - Guerra - LeFondra - Jones... that's more than enough to see us through. Maynard is down the pecking-order now and needs to go out on loan.
I would say to sell him, however, due to his injury and time out of the game I don't think mant clubs would come in with the type of offer/wages that would be required ... they'd want to see how he performs before they consider buying him .. hence, a loan deal is ideal.

Am I the only person that likes Maynard? His movement and vision is brilliant, the injury has hindered him, but he has not had N opportunity to play games since. Every time he plays he gets better and looks more and more like himself when he was at the Wurzels.

I have always liked Maynard, way before he joined us, I just feel he has not done much since he joined us,maybe his injury has really still set him back and it's now all about confidence :thumbright:

Is this the player that scored the winning goal against Wigan?

Set up the first against Coventry?

He will be an asset as the season progresses, and he gets fitter and more confident, playing in a system he may understand if Ole ever makes his mind up on a system that is.

Re: Nicky Maynard

I said before the start of the season that he should go out on loan. But after his start against Wigan I'm having second thoughts. It's a very good headache for Ole having 5 good strikers but he can't keep rotating, he needs to choose his two best strikers and play them every game.

I didn't see the Wigan match but apart from the tap-in didn't he have a poor game?

I thought he played quite well and he got into a good position to score the goal, even though it was a tap-in. I just think he needed that goal to get his confidence back and you could tell it meant a lot to him with his celebration. But we do have 5 strikers and we can't play them all.

Great plan. Then by January those two are fucked and jaded and the other ones have no football under their belts to come in and make a difference.

It was rarely a problem with the Bothroyd and Chopra partnership. I'm not saying we should only have two strikers who play 90 minutes a game, but Ole needs to know his best partnership. Le Fondre and Maynard against Wolves was a disaster.

Realistically I cannot see how OGS can keep 5 strikers happy. He needs to find his best 2 partnerships and rotate as he thinks fit, and that does leave one too many strikers on City's books.
ps i was very impressed with Guerra on Tuesday, he will be some player once he gets match fit and Macheda certainly has something about him too. Took his second goal classily.

I dont think we need as many strikers as we have and no doubt he is a big earner, Id let him go personally, maybe just a month to start with.

No you are not. I rate Maynard. People on here too quick to judge. I like ALF too but what has he done? At least NM has a league goal to his name from very little game time. Kenwyne can't last a whole game, Macheda has been injured, Ole is using two strikers in every game and two on the bench and withy a busy schedule I think we will need all our players. :bluescarf:
