Former Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has admitted to sending racist, sexist, homophobic and anti-Semitic texts during his time in charge of the club.

Mackay apologised for sending the crude messages, but his apology appeared to lack sincerity when a statement issued on his behalf by the League Managers Association (LMA) claimed messages occurred during "friendly text message banter" with former colleague Iain Moody.

He was believed to be favourite for the vacant manager's job at Crystal Palace, where Moody was sporting director before resigning over the scandal.

The texts which were uncovered during a raid on Moody's which was ordered by Cardiff's billionaire owner, Vincent Tan.

With the Football Association (FA) receiving the messages, both Mackay and Moody's football careers are believed to be over.

The FA confirmed it was investigating the offensive texts and other material surrounding the pair's transfer deals.

The LMA released this statement, which doesn't appear to help the pair's cause.

"These were two text messages sent in private at a time Malky felt under great pressure and when he was letting off steam to a friend during some friendly text message banter. That said, Malky believes he could and should have conducted himself better on these two isolated occasions."

Former England and Liverpool striker Stan Collymore said the LMA statement was disgraceful on Twitter.

Military Junta, I think your point is a fair one, but the context in which the comments were made weren't particularly good (even if it turns out most comments were Moody's).

When you are signing a player (Kim), to call his group "Fucky Chinkys", when he hasn't even met them isn't great. The same with
Moody's comment "independently minded young homo", it might sound funny at first, but it isn't respectful given the context of inviting a new "employee" to join the club. As a minimum Malky should have had enough leadership sense to put a stop to Moody's comments, and should have encouraged them.

Maybe there was a sense of loneliness, isolation for Malky and Moody was his only mate, but even so it doesn't reflect well on Mackay's leadership qualities.

Also Moody was not terribly intelligent for keeping all these texts and emails. This is something I don't understand, if he was sending all this stuff on Cardiff City PS's and mobiles, why didn't he leave this equipment in his office when he left? Usually when you leave a company you leave all the company items. This would suggest Moody took documents and equipment which was owned by Cardiff City when he worked for CP. This in simple terms is theft, it also implies he had something to hide.
