Crystal Palace to unveil Malcom Mackay as new manager

Tue Aug 19, 2014 1:27 pm

Tuesday 19th August 2014.

New man: Malky MacKay looks set to become Crystal Palace's fourth manager in three season
Crystal Palace look set to unveil former Cardiff City boss Malky MacKay as their new manager.

Mackay, Tim Sherwood and Martin Jol were the prime candidates following the departure of Tony Pulis last week, two days before the Premier League kicked off.

Palace appear to have chosen former Scottish international MacKay, who was willing to work with the current backroom staff at Selhurst Park, while Sherwood and Jol wanted to bring in their own people.

The Scot’s close links with Palace sporting director and former Bluebirds head of recruitment Iain Moody, was also key.

Mackay’s managerial career is relatively short, having taken his bow at Watford in 2009 following the resignation of Brendan Rogers.

However, it was with Cardiff City, whom the 42 year-old guided to the Premier League in 2013, where MacKay rose to prominence.

I bet Moody had a big hand in his appointment.
It'll be interesting to see how he gets on,palace have only spent around 2.5 mill, there's not the sort of money Tan made available.

Good Luck Malcolm!!!

Football is mad. We sack a manager apparently not good enough to keep us up. A different club parts ways with a manager who did an excellent job at doing just that, and then they take on a manager deemed not to be up to the task by another club only last season! What a way to keep the manager merry-go-round and inflated costs going!

I agree, Football is beyond mad.

Not much of an option with Pulis. He's after a bigger job with more money - Palace have a 40k wage limit in place and wouldn't break it. MM is probably one of the better options given that Sherwood was second favourite

I’m really glad he’s got this job. Well done Malky I say. IMO deserves a proper crack at the prem. I think he’ll keep Palace up again too. I did quote last yr, MM will be a future Premier Manager whilst Cardiff City FC will not under Tan.

When reflecting at the end of this season I feel all these actions will prove we should have given that man a full term in the top flight last yr.

I still feel Ole will be gone by xmas. I like him personally but feel he’s no good, exactly same as many of you boys on MM. I’d give Ole a full yr personally, but I think Tan is a time bomb in waiting.

The circus rolls on for us, fresh sheet for Malks tho.

Sherwoods a bit to full of himself, I can believe he failed the interview.
Malky will need the £10 mill big time and probably a bit more :ayatollah:

I hear there is an up and coming lad by the name of Cornelius that would cost around 10m.

Really happy for Malky. When all the backbiting has settled down history will remember him as one of our greatest managers.Appointed with a handful of pro's as a squad after Dave Jones' loan players left he gave us steel, gained promotion in two years and, I firmly believe, he would have kept us in the prem given the chance. For all that I hope we stuff palace as City is more important than any single individual. :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

How ironic if Palace get relegated while Cardiff are promoted, especially if Ole goes and Pulis is brought in (not that I want OGS to go).
