Celtic should find out before tomorrow lunchtime whether they remain in the Champions League play-offs after Legia Warsaw's appeal

I hope Warsaw win their appeal :ayatollah:

Re: ' Celtic '

Warsaw have been treated harshly, Annis. I agree, I hope they win their appeal.

The player missed the games he was meant to, and was deliberately not registered in their squad for one of the games as Warsaw didn't realise they had to register him for it to count as part of his suspension. How they can be kicked out of a competition for that seems unreal.

Just fine them, put them back in the competition, and make sure every team knows from this point on how severe the punishment will be if the rule is misinterpreted again.

Hope they do to Annis but I cant see it ,funny how Celtic don't seem to want to do the fair thing and even take a one game play off lets be honest they got hammered over 2 legs ,I saw on sky the other day Gordon Strachan saying rules are rules so they should be kicked out but bet he wouldn't be saying that if it was the other way round .

This rule is a joke and needs to be clarified,as we all know sunderland played a guy for a number of games and got a little fine ,yet a read a while back some conference club I think did the same and got put down 2 leagues !

Totally unfair if Celtic take their place, I'm with you totally on this.

Totally unfair but rules are rules and UEFA have theirs in place stating that in the event of an un-eligible player then the opposing team gets awarded the game 3 - 0 ....... then you have the English FA / Football League / Premier League who have rules too but award the punishment as they see fit at the time , it sucks but at least with UEFA everybody knows where they stand !

Yes I hate Celtic, but rules then should be used on all clubs big and small and kept to through out football and they never are.

I'd be ashamed of being a Cardiff fan if our club had the cheek to appeal when they got trounched by a Polish team.

Rules are rules & you can't blame celtic or their fans for Warsaw's mistake....of course it's not the way you want to qualify for the next round but 99.9 of fans would take it if it happened to their club.

People dont even know the facts and still blame Celtic for this.

Celtic didn`t appeal. When the squad was sent in to UEFA after the match they saw that a player had been used when being banned according to their register.

According to UEFA you need to register the player in the Euro cup squad for the ban to be served. Legia instead took a full squad to the St Patricks games and played Bereszynsk against Celtic when his ban was still active.

If you compete in CL and dont even know how the rules are in the competition then you deserve to be thrown out.

BUT both clubs have Norwegian managers and Legia got the best chance to put a Norwegian manager on the football map so i do hope they get their place back even tho i personally feel the ban is correct.

And to all the Celtic haters, Legia fans aren`t blaming Celtic so why should you. The person they blame are Club administrator Marta Ostrowska for not bothering to read the rules when she said they could use Bereszynsk.

Agree totally. I dislike Rangers and Celtic so not biased, but they got hammered over the two legs and should do the decent thing...

Not what I heard, heard Celtic had to make a complaint for it to be formally investigated heard that from polish fans.
I don't hate Celtic like a lot of neutral football fans this leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. It's not like they gained a sporting advantage a clerk made a mistake. Its made worse when you know that clerk had put the players name on the team sheet but crossed it out because he thought a banned player should not be on the team sheet until he had served the ban so the guy misread the rules.
Obviously this clerk is massively incompetent but no sporting advantage was gained and as a fan of football I would have like to have seen a bit of common sense.
The whole rules are rules thing doesn't always cut it. And I dont care about the managers nationality its about who was the better team on the pitch. Celtic was outclassed and doesn't deserve to play in champions league.

I'm saying in this instance, it's clearly a misinterpretation of the rules by Warsaw and Uefa should do the right thing and acknowledge that by reversing their decision and fining them instead. Then alter the wording of the rules to ensure no team can use the same excuse again.

I get that they have to set a precedent, but at the same time, this has gone on through all of football and in this instance UEFA have come down super hard when I don't think they would have if it had been Celtic who made the error.

I have no time for the old firm but rules are rules and they have to be adhered to. This seems to happen too often in Europe so maybe the clubs needs better educated.

I believe it was Legia who flagged up the problem?

Re: ' Celtic '

Legia won the contest on the pitch and they deserved to go to the next round, no doubt....

But they broke the rules, set by Uefa and as much as I sympathise with Legia, the rules are the rules. By attacking Celtic FC and its heritage has done Legia no favours at all, quiete reverse...

The responsibility was with Legia's staff, not Celtic nor Uefa...
The decisions and rules are applied by Uefa, not Celtic or any other club.
Legia's board are now attacking Celtic in the media, whilst their own fans are attacking their own board and their staff of Legia.

Many fans from all around the world (incl. myself) feel sorry for Legia's situation, we can always argue about the certain rules and regulations. Many I find stupid and senseless myself. BUT it was all Legia's fault, as their staff have failed in a very basic part of the rules and those rules are known by everyone and have been broken.

I understand how bitter Legia feels now, but Legia should not question the integrity of anyone, when they are the responsible party.
