Solskjaer said today

We’ve got to play so much better than we did against Blackburn, especially with the ball.

The determination and attitude was great but that only takes you so far. I wasn’t happy with the distribution and passing.

I was delighted on Wednesday night, the players were hungry for the ball. A couple of those players really did make me think about Saturday.

I’ve decided that a few of them did well enough to play.

Kagisho Dikgacoi is still not fully fit.

Cardiff City: Ben Turner out injured for three months

Cardiff City defender Ben Turner will miss the first three months of the season after having ankle surgery.
The news comes as a blow for Bluebirds manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as the club originally expected the centre-back to be out for a month.
The 25-year-old former England under-19 international signed for Cardiff for £750,000 from Coventry in August 2011.
Turned signed a contract extension with the Bluebirds in December 2012, which keeps him at the club until 2016.

James Vaughan is making “good progress” in his recovery from a calf injury – but won’t be ready to face Cardiff City on Saturday.

Centre-back Anthony Gerrard has also been ruled out of a return to the club he served between 2009-12 while Vaughan’s fellow striker Martin Paterson remains sidelined by a knee problem.

But busy caretaker boss Mark Lillis, who put new midfield arrival Jacob Butterfield through his paces on the training field this morning, says he’s happy with his options ahead of the trip to South Wales.

Lillis made six changes for Tuesday’s Capital Cup One Cup extra-time win at Chesterfield.

And he will take the gruelling nature of that contest into account when finalising his plans for the first of two away Championship games, with Reading the destination on Tuesday.

Fresh from checking on Cardiff’s Capital One Cup win over Coventry last night on DVD, Lillis said: “It’s a big game and we’re looking forward to it.

“We’ve done plenty of preparation in terms of checking on Cardiff, who are a strong side.

“We’ll put together a plan to beat them and pick the players we think will best put it into operation.

Not have not only Huddersfield Town parted company with manager Mark Robins in that time, but they have recruited an exciting £2m-plus rated midfield trio who might just provide backbone for a Championship upsurge.

Jacob Butterfield’s arrival from Middlesbrough in a swap deal which took Adam Clayton up the A19 comes on the back of Conor Coady’s signing from Liverpool and Radi Majewski’s season-long loan from Nottingham Forest.

Just how they are utilised will be a question for the new manager, but caretaker boss Mark Lillis will have all three on the training ground together for the first time and desperate for a start in the new yellow third kit against Cardiff City in Wales on Saturday.

Cardiff City are set to go up against a new face in the Huddersfield Town squad.

Jacob Butterfield will be in contention for a starting place against Cardiff after completing a £750,000 transfer from Middlesborough.

So then it's close to guessing time again, and I think we will line up in a 4-2-2-2 formation with 2 holding midfielders and 2 inside wings. I think this is our most attacking formation with the full backs operating as wings as much as defenders. And home, where we are expected to control the game, I think this is Ole's preferred formation.

Marshall in goal, of course, and there is no reason why Ole shouldn't start with the same back four as against Blackburn. Also, there are not so many options as long as no one new is coming in.

Whittingham and Adeyemi as holding midfielders. Gunnarsson playing another 90 minutes today, suggests that he's not intended a start on Saturday.

Daehli will start on the left. He just has too much to offer to be left outside, and home against Huddersfield just sounds like the perfect game for him. Who to start on the right side is maybe the most open question. Will Ole surprise by putting on Ralls? Or Eikrem? I have a feeling though, that Kimbo will be preferred again, as Ole keeps on picking him for starts.

Maynard playing today, also suggest that we'll see Le Fondre and Jones on top. Guerra might be back, but I can't see him starting.

Marshall
Brayford - Hudson - Connelly - Fabio
Whittingham - Adeyemi
Kimbo - Daehli
Jones - Le Fondre

Bench:
Moore
KTC
John
Eikrem
Ralls
Burgstaller
Guerra/Maynard

The difference is that he didn´t play against Blackburn, while both Maynard and Gunnarsson played full 90 minutes in both matches (Maybe Gunnarsson on the bench, though; I see Ole is praising his effort yesterday). Besides them, only Connolly played 90 min in both games, but we were sort of out of option on the CB last night. I understand that Cala is back from suspension, so he will probable be on the bench on the cost of KTC (maybe even starting). And Guerra still seems to be out with an injury, so Maynard on the bench then. Or is Macheda finally back? With the squad we´ve got, it´s not really easy to guess, though. But great that we fans have something to discuss at least :) :bluescarf:

Bradford-born Butterfield’s skills were honed to such an extent at Barnsley that Norwich swooped to take him to the top flight, and he made 32 appearances for Boro last season when they finished 12th, eight points off the play-offs.

The 21-year-old Coady made his presence felt in Town’s 5-3 Capital One Cup win at Chesterfield on Tuesday night, when Butterfield watched from the dug-out before signing a four-year contract.

Lillis – who used a 4-4-2 formation – described Coady’s performance as “different class” and fans were impressed by the way he not only protected the back four but also broke forward to link up with the strikers (Jon Stead and Nahki Wells).

Majewski has the ability to unlock any Championship defence in a ‘floating role’ and, because he is at the John Smith’s for the season, Town can bank on including him in any winning formula.

“It’s great to be bringing in players of that quality,” added Lillis.

“We’ve got a lovely dressing room and we are going to need to utilise the whole squad – different players – going forward because it’s a long, hard season.”

While Clayton was Town’s Player of the Year last season, they have rightly cashed in before he could walk away on a free.

Oliver Norwood and Jonathan Hogg remain in the mix along with emerging products Duane Holmes, Jordan Sinnott, Matt Crooks, Phil Billing and Sondre Tronstad, while the wider berths and up front are covered by the likes of Danny Ward, Adam Hammill, cup scorer Joe Lolley and Sean Scannell. Keep an eye out, too, for Jake Charles as the season unfolds.

All change for Cardiff Cardiff City, Latest news update: 55 minutes ago Cardiff could make 11 changes to their starting line-up when they host Huddersfield. The Bluebirds rang the changes for their midweek Capital One Cup win over Coventry and could replace the entire starting line-up as defender Juan Cala is available again after suspension and could replace Matt Connolly.

The Spaniard has been missing since his red card in the Premier League defeat at Sunderland at the end of last season and with Ben Turner still sidelined he will hope to find his way back into the line-up. Craig Noone remains sidelined as does striker Javi Guerra who has a hip injury and is yet to make his Bluebirds bow.

Huddersfield's new signing Jacob Butterfield hopes to make his debut following his arrival in a deal that saw Adam Clayton move to Middlesbrough. Caretaker boss Mark Lillis could include Butterfield in his starting line-up in his second game in charge, hand fellow midfielder Conor Coady his first league start and recall season-long loan signing Radi Majewski.

Winger Adam Hammill and midfielder Jonathan Hogg, among the substitutes for the midweek Capital One Cup win at Chesterfield, are in contention to start.

But striker James Vaughan (calf), midfielder Oscar Gobern (toe) and defender Anthony Gerrard (calf) all remain doubtful.

Cardiff City have added eight new players to their ranks during the summer, including new signings Anthony Pilkington and Sean Morrison who were confirmed on Friday afternoon.

The Terriers have won twenty-nine of the sixty-seven meetings between the two teams.

Clinical forward Nahki Wells was released by Carlisle United in 2011, but went on to score forty-two goals for Bradford City before his record-breaking move to Huddersfield.
Huddersfield’s last win over City in Cardiff came thirteen years ago, with Danny Schofield scoring the crucial goal in a 2-1 victory.
Despite his youthful age of just twenty-four, Town keeper Alex Smithies has made over two hundred league appearances in his seven years at the club.
Mark Lillis currently has a 50% win record in his two spells as caretaker manager of Town.
