Sky: Cardiff says yes to a loan for Gary Medel
Hampus Kärki
Wednesday July 16th, 2014
Sky reports today that Inter’s next signing is most likely to be Chilean national Gary Medel from Cardiff. Inter have traveled to the UK to negotiate with with the Welsh club.
Cardiff has agreed to give Inter Gary Medel on loan. The only obstacle at this point is the final numbers. Inter have offered a loan with an option to buy Medel for 7 million euros next season, while Cardiff wants ten million. A compromise is likely to be found rather soon.

Did Tan wake up with a horses head in his bed or summin.

I'm sure I saw the loan fee was about £2m? So we'll be getting the majority of our money back anyway, happy with that

Probably they have come over to complete the deal and it has obviously improved, especially as other clubs are starting to show interest we have them by the bollox.....

So who is the option to but in favour of ?
If we get promoted again is it our option to keep him or do Inter have first choice ?
Wed Jul 16, 2014 1:45 pm
Loan him out for a year and have him back when we go back up lol

Good point, maybe we could have him back if we are in the Premier, good job Malky and co and doing the negotiating ......

It looks like a good deal has been done for Cardiff

I agree. We reduce the wage bill, get a loan fee.
I expect that Inter will want to cap the fee next summer in case they keep him. Maybe they will have first option to buy at £10M - loan fee, or something close.
If we get promoted, having him back might not be such a bad thing.

Terrible decision. He's kack in the Prem, got no bottle and runs away when things get tough.

He'll be fine in Italy, then! LOL
(Only joking!)

Ideal for us really, recoup some money for him, get him off the wage bill for a year. Go back up and take him back. Win win situation
Wed Jul 16, 2014 5:49 pm
(Assuming they're paying his wages in full) and he completes the deal after the loan, we'll have got about 10m out of Inter. Not a bad deal I guess
Wed Jul 16, 2014 6:05 pm
Massively concerned by this deal, what if we end up with him back next season.

Agree with you. What if he gets injured or has as bad a season as he did with us and they decide not to exercise the option?
We could be left with a player on a huge wage who does not want to be here and whose value will hve decreased significantly.
Would much rather he was sold now for as much as we can possibly get.
Why do Inter want a loan? If he's as good as some seem to think then clubs should be queueing up to buy him.
Looks to me like they're hedging their bets - if he turns out to be as poor as he was with us certainly during the second half of the season then they don't want to be lumbered with him in the same way that we currently are.
Wed Jul 16, 2014 7:47 pm
I'd rather take 5-6m now any day.
I honestly don't think he is as good as some people would like to play believe.

The number of people saying Tan getting more involved with the negotiations will be good for the club, and then this happens! Medel has just had a brilliant World Cup, there's several clubs interested and if there's a time to sell Medel for a big fee, it's now. We are not going to go straight back up under Ole, so Medel will not be re-joining us after this season. I'm sure Medel will impress for Inter, but I believe after the World Cup Medel has had, we should get the highest fee possible for him NOW!
Wed Jul 16, 2014 8:19 pm
Oh so you know we won't go back up
And you know we have better offers? The guys has had a decent world cup but his value is still very low compared to what we paid. He isn't that good.
Wed Jul 16, 2014 8:30 pm
He is an outstanding player. Did none of you see him at the World Cup? A years loan with the chance to get him back if we get promoted is ideal as far as I'm concerned. The lack of football knowledge on this board is terrifying at times.
Wed Jul 16, 2014 8:36 pm
We overpaid on a defensive midfielder, and have been lucky he has had a good World Cup, with a few tears, and raised his profile and his value. We should be able to get most of our money back on a sale if other clubs are sniffing. It is a long time until end of transfer window, and I wouldn't feel too pressurised by Inters deadline of wanting him by a preseason tour. Personally I would wait and hold out for a sale, and show we aren't desperate. A loan has too many risks (injury / what if we don't get promoted / we are tied if someone quality comes available in the meantime etc), and maybe our first loss is our best loss. Sell and move on, perhaps if it is even £8m plus. Someone will have him, and he would probably take a pay cut to pay in Seria A rather than the Champ.

I didn't realise option was 7 million euros. Even worse. At 1.25 exchange rate that is £5.6 million pounds if he does well for them. Please tell me Tan knows when he is being shafted.

Lots or average players had a decent world cup, doesn't mean they are worth 11m.

We get his wages or most of them paid for for a season, we get a few mill from Inter in fees. If hes good they buy him for say 6 Mil, they paid us 1.5 Mil in Fees and most of his wages. So whats the total?
He has a shit season, and we sell him next season for 4 or 5 mil and with the wages saved and loan fees off Inter, still not tooo bad.
Or, we keep him and he plays great in the Prem, so we made money off him, paid no wages and got him back after getting a season of Italian footy under his belt.
Seems Win, win or win.
Or, we keep him and he plays in the champ, gets kicked to f**k, sent off as he's pissed of at being hacked to death and visiting shit holes like Rotherham

On one hand Tan was criticising Mackay for his dealing yet this one is just delaying a even worse deal for the club in the long term. The Italian league can be very physical so what happens if he gets injured ?

Having clubs interested in medel and them putting in a firm offer are two totally different situations, do you know that clubs have made a firm offer???? how do you know we are not going straight back up???? can you see into the future???
