A smart man would sell

Tue Jul 08, 2014 12:04 am

i am prepared to be shot down for this, but should Cardiff receive sizable offer for a 29 yr old with minimal resale value i think they should accept it.
Marsh is great but he peaked last season. his value will never be greater than it currently is,£8m + for a goalkeeper with one years experience in an elite league.

agree and said it from the start of Arsenals interest: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=142537&hilit=+marshall

Re: A smart man would sell

Disagree.
As a club we should always try to keep our best players & Marshall is definitely that.
With the amount of points he can win us he'll be worth more than 8mill to us if we get promoted.
At 29 he's just reaching his peak.

Ive said the same thing in another thread.

Next year he will be a 30 year old keeper in the championship, his value wont increase then. Even if we do go up it will be another year later after again hopefully proving himself in the prem, by then he is 31.

Someone made a good point in another thread, if he played elsewhere would be we happy with Ole signing him for 8m+? I dont think a championship clubs need defensive players like Medel, Caulker, Marshall worth such big value.

Re: A smart man would sell

Tue Jul 08, 2014 8:15 am

As a fan you always want to see us try and keep hold of the top players. Plus keepers hit their prime around that age. :thumbright:

The amount of points he will save us next year and hopefully help in the return to the prem league will be worth a lot more then £8million :ayatollah:

Nonsense. He earned us about 10 points alone the season we went up.

How do you know he peaked last season? :? How do you know his value will NEVER be greater than it currently is?

A settled goal keeper makes a hell of a difference to me & he can play for another 5-10 years if he wanted to.

The money getting bandied about is a lot i agree but as already mentioned the price of promotion is so much more.

It's Funny how several on here have issued similar thoughts, but only mine is described as nonsense.

Actually he talks sense.

Championship winning squads need a gerat goalkeeper. Which is what we have. Goal keepers generally peaker after 30, and have longer playing careers that outfield players.
He will surely save our arses again and again, and earn us points. With the attacking football Ole wants to play, he needs to be absolutely 110% confident in his defence. Marshall knows our players, and has proven himself to be a top top keeper.

Value wise he peaked.. But Barry is a simpleton who doesn't understand people have different opinions.

If he went to say Southampton for anything around £8m would Southampton sell him for more or close to what they paid?
I'm guessing not..so current value is a premium and the resale value wouldn't be close..

Again Baz... People's Opinions!!!!

But to me, the money we get for him is irrelevant if we go up. Personally, at £8m i'de want him to stay, anything £10m+ then I suppose we would have to concede defeat to a PL club. But why let him go now? We will get a bucket load of cash again if we go back up, Ole is building a really exciting team, and Marshall is a very exciting and reliable GK.

I want him to stay at all costs

Demanding people accepted that others have different opinions, then calls me a simpleton for having a different opinion.

Priceless. :laughing6:

Absolutely. As I said, he got us 10 points with his performances the season we went up. I remember the stormer he had at Leicester away... Bellers Snatched a goal and then Marshall kept us in it & we won 1-0.

Not to mention the 3 worldies he pulled off in the dying moments of games to save us points. He never switches off, he's always alert and has fantastic ability.

Money is irrelevant, four extra million then you will concede defeat?

What's Ramseys current value? Bearing in mind we sold him for £5m. That was bad business.
Selling 29 yr old Marshall for 8+ Knowing his value is unlikely to increase is a good piece of business.

I don't want Marshall to go,far from it. In fact I don't think he will go.
However this is a business and his stock is good so selling him for maximum profit makes good business sense.

That was my "nonsense" point apparently.
