Am I too harsh on Ole?

Fri Jul 04, 2014 8:01 am

I understand the excitement surrounding next season. The club have invested/increased the debt to get us the much needed firepower to get us the goals next season.

I listed some of the terrible results under the tenure of Ole last season in an earlier post. 0 -3 Jacks, 0-4 Sunderland, 0 -3 Newcastle, and the second worst result after the Swansea game, the Palace fixture where we got rolled over on our home turf 0 - 3.

How much of this was Ole's fault? A critic would look to the fact he had no impact in galvanising a squad that were getting battered most weeks.

Ole needs a good start. The One thing I must admit is Ole has got me really excited for the new campaign, I just can't see any middle-ground in terms of how we play next season.

We are going to play attacking football, teams will know what we are to offer and will set-up there teams accordingly. I expect us to be hit by counter-attacking teams if we are playing most of the football in their half.

Lets hope Ole will get it right. He is a really good guy, and we as fans instantly like him because of the way he is. I dread to think the abuse someone like Steve McLaren would of got for those results last year!  :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

It was difficult for Ole to inherit players and come in at such a high level with the problems we had .

He is now bringing in staff and players that he wants , we`ll know by Christmas where we are going promotio wise plus if needed I think we will invest in players in January and loan player option . :bluescarf:

Lets get behind Ole and team - another promotion year !! :bluescarf:

Yes! the scars of last season are just that. Lets hope alot of lessons were learned both by Ole & boardroom.

The fixtures look quite hard at the start of the new season, I guess it just proves how competitive the Championship is. Really looking forward to it!! :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Good point Wez, I was assuming. If the club revenues cover the transfer fees, it would not increase debt. Can't wait for the debt to equity announcement as promised by Tan

Re: Am I too harsh on Ole?

I hope we get off to a good start, but we must not panic if we are not in the top six in the first few months, he has to be given time and by the new year we should see if he is up to the task, but it will be about results at the end of the day and i dont think Tan will show much patience if we are not looking like at least playoff contenders.

Re: Am I too harsh on Ole?

I think Ole will be adaptable. Let's face it, he was left with many options when he inherited the squad.

Re: Am I too harsh on Ole?

Fri Jul 04, 2014 10:33 am

I see it like this:

Ole and Malky are two very different managers. Malky put all the strength of the team in defence so appointing ole was fairly stupid, it's like expecting a bricklayer to do a job with a composers baton. Admittedly he should have only slowly tried to introduce his style, at times it did work like in Southampton.

So here's what I like about him. He's a far shrewder merchant than Malky, he's more exciting but above all he's unquestionably honest and understanding. This makes him invaluable to me as the type of person I can trust under tan, he's a breath of fresh air compared to our last few managers and owners. He also has a very good contact base, let's hope he has the ability to spot good talent. The committee he's helped to build is also vastly safer.

However, obviously this will only be useful if he's successful next season.

not going to happen whilst we are in the championship thomas and its nonsensical to think it would happen unless we are back in the premiership and survived a full season.
its allright for people to bleat on about it but would anybody on here pay 10k for a car that was worth 1k.
i believe if we had stayed up he would have converted a large portion of the debt with the rest the following season

Maybe it should of been made clear his intentions, and the potential stumbling blocks instead of a promise made. Fans were lied to that is a fact.

If it makes no business sense to turn debt to equity now. It would of been better to be honest at the time. But that would of meant even sterner opposition to the rebrand with a promise of 'maybe I'll turn the debt to equity'.

Thomas i believe Tan genuinely thought we would survive and his debt to equity was based on that. not one of us in his position would be converting now.

Thomas,
I am very wary of how Ole will do this season after attending 99% of the matches Ole managed last season, some of his signings were awful and some of his tactics and games were a disgrace from the Jacks away to Hull home they just seemed to get worse.

But, its a new season, Ole has put his own team/squad together now including some quality players, so we will all get behind our team as usual and give Ole and the team our full support. :thumbright: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Think it will be important that we don't panic if things don't go right in the early part of the season. May take a few games before players blend, as long as we are there or thereabouts over the xmas period, we will hopefully push on in the second half of the season.

He will be gone by November. Just not good enough and will end up like all the other Manchester United so-called managers of the future.

You see the difference Championship vs Premiership? The squad was good enough for championship but imo far from good enough for Premiership, no matter what manager in charge. So If we shine by november will you say Ole has delivered so far?
