What cheating tw*t he is - great footballer but played the whole game trying for a penalty, one looked a fair call but no way was the one he got was one. Shame really, changed the game IMO. Fed up with these cheats, spoils the game.
Great night of football though!!

Clueless post, are you kidding me?
The one he got he got caught, no matter how he went down it's still a penalty as he was caught.
Whopper.
Should have been two penalties.

There have been occasions where penalties haven't been given eventhough they were, due to players diving.

The second one was in no way a penalty - you'd go nuts if that was given against us in the league. There was contact, but no foul, in my opinion. And he was moving away from goal, not to mention obviously about to lose the ball.
Big call from the ref though. Surprised he gave it, and that point in the game.

He is a diver and I hate to see it, but I've got to stick up for him on this one. Against Mexico he could have gone down more than once and maybe got something but he decided to stay on his feet.
There was slight contact on the actual penalty though but the way he went down ruined it for me
Sun Jun 29, 2014 11:58 pm
Come on, he does his diving bit all the time - professional cheat, end of!
Mon Jun 30, 2014 12:01 am
it was a penalty but he didn't half make a meal of it
Mon Jun 30, 2014 12:05 am
Not in a way it was a big call, he got caught simple as, if your caught does it matter how you go down? No.
On top of that the other one I am referring to is the one where he got fouled twice in the same move.

He only goes down when he realises he can't get anything out of it!!

He's clever mate and might have even got 3 penaltys tonight. The one where stayed on his feet was a certainty, the one you're on about no way, and the one he got was a maybe but feck me there's no need for all those theatricals if you know what I mean, he was impeded but to go down like the he did was laughable
Good player though

Stood on his foot, it's a penalty

Clueless post - why? I just made an opinion. Anyway he never got caught as you say, the defender put his foot in front of him so he decided to dive over it!!!

Agree with you but to go flying through the air with his hands flying out and jumping 3 foot in the air was farscical when he only caught his foot is laughable

I agree, said the same thing to my mate when we were watching it, it is a penalty but all that flailing around was unnecessary, looked like a dick

Because he got caught and it's contact, its a penalty. Paint it how you want but it is a penalty.

Looks like he's half way to Jupiter even with the first tiny contact there

Or possibly trying to avoid a challenge or get around a player to try and get a chance at goal.

Bollox he's a cheating c**t and anyone with an ounce of footballing sense can plainly see what he was trying to do all game.

going for goal? obviously wasnt watching game as he was on edge of six yrd
box not in control of ball! facing away from goal,as pic shows how can that blade of grass make him dive as if in olympics? a cheat and nothing else.
Or possibly trying to avoid a challenge or get around a player to try and get a chance at goal.

It was a penalty.

craig close up pics cant say he was touched by player so why did he do a double pike with half twist whilst kicking legs in air?
bearing in mind he was almost ststionary at time! yes should been pen ealier but that is not related to his blatent divefor pen!

He probably exaggerated it because the ref would not have given a penalty if he didn't!
There were two clear penalties in the first half, one for each side which the ref didn't give so he probably felt that if he didn't exaggerate the foul then no way would the ref have given it.
Great player - prone to be greedy and likes to go down with minimal contact but what a player!
Didn't hear the biased TV pundits who were having a go at him yesterday say anything when Michael Owen used to fall over whenever a breeze blew and as for Robbie Fowler suggesting he should be banned for the rest of the tournament
Of course that was something he never did wasn't it. Perhaps we could have had a few penalties that season if Mr Liverpool had actually managed more than about 5 minutes on the pitch.

The theatrics are irrelevant. There was contact, anywhere else on the pitch it would have been a freekick.

CraigCCFC wrote:It was a penalty.
Penalty, yes. Any need for the theatrics? No.
Only my opinion, but something needs to be done and I think eventhough it was a penalty it shouldn't of been given and robben should of been booked, imagine how pissed off dutch players/staff fans would of been with him? Maybe THAT would shame him and others into not diving.
Mon Jun 30, 2014 12:45 pm
The one aspect that is so often missed out is that these extremely talented players have incredible balance.
To make the moves they do means that they could almost walk a tightrope.
The moment they have an opposition player near them, they suddenly become like Bambi on ice.
The only way to reduce it is to penalise it.
Either during game time, which would require 4th official and computer analysis or post match.
During game time, I would give a straight red for diving when NO contact has been made. A yellow for minimal contact with exaggerated diving.
Totting up of points for these offences would incur specifically high levels of bans to try to rid the game of this type of cheating.
To protect players like Robben, though, in fairness there would need to be the same analysis for potential or actual penalties or free kicks.
So for the first half incident, following analysis, most would say a yellow card to Robben and a penalty awarded.
A player needs to fall if fouled, NOT dive and claim that he has been fouled. Perhaps introduce something similar to tennis, where they can claim for a review a call a number of times each game or something similar to rugby union.
As a consequence of this and other time wasting tactics, then perhaps a stop/start timing similar to ice hockey or basketball would need to be introduced instead of the rolling clock we currently have. The time of the game needs to be devolved from the ref to a time keeper or 4th official.

Bale would never play if they punished diving properly. Hes the worst ive ever seen for it

they are relevant! do you think ref would have awarded pen if just fell over? not in million years, contact what him putting his foot against player more like, and no i doubt if free kick be given anywhere else as that tackle is hard to repeat way it was done?
like said pic cannot conclusively show contact so how did he manage to dive in air like diving in olympics from standing position? he had no momentem..

answer is he dived to get penalty as he admitted about other times in the game, why was this any different? because every expert says he dived simple.

A static pic shows nothing. There was contact and that cant be denied. A penalty all day long. He got fouled earlier on in the box, twice in the same move but stayed on his feet and got nothing.....so he made sure this time.
