Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell set to complete £800,000 move to Leicester City

Monday Jun 23, 2014

By Terry Phillips

The Cardiff striker is expected to make his return to the Premier League with newly-promoted Leicester City

Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell is set to complete his £800,000 transfer to Premier League new boys Leicester City.

Yorkshireman Campbell, who scored nine goals in all competitions for the Bluebirds last season, is due to meet Leicester manager Nigel Pearson this week.

That will happen just before the deal is finalised and by that time it is likely personal terms will have been agreed.

Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would love to keep Campbell in his squad, but the 26-year-old has a release clause in his contract which has been triggered by Leicester.

Campbell joined Cardiff in a £650,000 move from Sunderland almost 18 months ago when former manager Malky Mackay agreed the release clause.

Transfer talks between Leicester City and Campbell's representatives have continued for a number of weeks, but it now looks certain Campbell is on his way to the midlands.

Cardiff have already signed strikers Adam Le Fondre, Federico Macheda and Spaniard Javi Guerra, plus midfield players Guido Burgstaller and South African Kagisho Dikgacoi.

I know I'm only posting what we already know but it's a new link and it more or less confirms he's a gonner.

Clearly states Malky agreed to the release clause too, interesting as some on here said that those sorts of decisions were nothing to do with him.

wasn't a pop at you just makes me sick that malky and Moody got defended when the club sacked them but they clearly fucked up ,the club trusted them with football matters and it it wrong for them

So it looks like players/agents dictate to clubs, with their signing on terms/contracts and managers/Ceo & owners bow down to them yet again.

Finally the saga is solved! Not clinical enough to be an out and out striker but sad to see him go for such a minimal fee from what we paid. At least the men who made the deal have now departed the club so we can't make the same mistake

Sorry fella I quoted you but didn't intend all of the response to be directed at you

Agree with all of that though they get defended blindly by some on here and it's quite pathetic at times.

Simon Lim over saw and wrote up every contract while he was CEO on Tans behalf,a fact, pity they never got rid of him a lot sooner.

I'm sure now all the future contracts will be all in the clubs favour that have been drawn up and signed so far for next season ;)

Well I'll say thanks for the service and good luck. Good servant for us, always tried and gave 100%...Glad he's going to one of my 2nd teams too, sure he'll score a few for Leicester...

Re: ' Fraizer Campbell looks like he's off '

Mon Jun 23, 2014 4:20 pm

Not the best striker but always gave 100% for us, maybe leicester players can give him better service than ours did

Re: ' Fraizer Campbell looks like he's off '

Mon Jun 23, 2014 4:21 pm

It is a pathetic amount.

So are we to assume that if we didn't go up to the prem that season he had a clause to leave after a few months?

Seems like everything is being done to stop mistakes like that happening again, Dalman already looks like a more clued up option and I can't see the same mistakes happening again.

I think we got our moneys worth out of him, his goals got s promoted and he had a good crack at keeping us up but tactics coupled with other factors like service and quality of players around him meant he was never going to get us the goals we needed to stay up.

I think he will get replaced in Janary by a multi million pound panic buy and end up back in the championship next summer with a Leeds/Bolton/Blackburn.

Grow up. Everyone should know by now that the manager and head of recruitment have no involvement with the contract negotiations. The manager approaches the board with a list of targets, the board then give an answer. As Annis says, if a player gets approached, it's the Chief Executive who oversees the negotiations. Unfortunately, Simon Lim messed up badly.

  some slating Mackay again...maybe, Just possibly, Campbell wouldn't have signed without the clause in place at all. :thumbright:

He's played here & he's done well and we've sold him for more than we paid for him. Thanks for the memories Fraizer. :ayatollah:

Simon Lim was inexperienced in this sense but had the 'advice' of Malky and Moody to help him with the deals, yeah Lim was more trouble than he was any help(did he actually offer any) but you can't say it was just him who signed it off. Moody and Malky took charge of the deal.

This is spot on.

When we signed him it was also a bit of a gamble after the amount of time he was injured for.

We should insist on a sell on clause at least

Said this to my mates.

And we got our £650,000 worth out of him anyway

Yo never know we might try and buy him back in a few years for £9m

You can't have it both ways when tan sacked Moody you said who's going to deal with the players ,contracts etc now your say it's all lims fault lol you change your mind as much as the wind just to get your anti club/rebrand point across

I am glad Lim has gone, he should of gone last year, but I suppose better late than never.

Bit disappointed in him thought he should stay with us until January he still would have his release clause.

Who knows we might only be 1place behind Leicester in January :ole:
