That is a very good point, I have noticed the jeering of poor play and apprecation of superb football (even Messi got an ovation in Brazil). Balls being played back to the keeper are booed too.

To further your point the Brazilian public really do get behind the underdog as seen in the Ghana game, I imagine it does help a lot. I have also noticed they jeer the very top players to begin with until they do something spectacular then they will show their appreciation. Very good atmospheres at most of the games, far better than the sterile South Africa.

Have to disagree with you. Costa Rica being the case in point. Iran and Ghana looked every bit the equals of their much better opponents today too.

Each team have a few players who can influence games now, that wasn't the case 20 years ago. I know it's a cliche but there are no easy games at World Cups anymore ask the Dutch, Italians and the Argies this week.

Each team have a few players who can influence games now, that wasn't the case 20 years ago. I know it's a cliche but there are no easy games at World Cups anymore ask the Dutch, Italians and the Argies this week.

I kind of agree with you there but on paper South Africa deserved a World Cup. I think Australia would host a brilliant tournament too because my friends over there say they go "soccer" mad for a month every four years. You do get the feeling though that the Brazilians are true football purists.

Regarding Australia, I was over there 14 years ago now before they had the A-League and used to watch a team called Sydney Olympic but back then the Aussies called it 'Wog Ball' because the immigrants loved it but the Aussies hated it but times are changing and even the hard line Aussies are taking an interest now with the creation of the A-League

Plus they have the infrastructure to cope, a nice climate as it's winter over there and massive stadia. Good World Cups are a fusion of local culture and top football hence why people have enjoyed this World Cup as much as Italia 90 thus far and we haven't got to the real drama yet.

The last World Cup I was pretty much drained of all enthusiasm by the time the knock outs came about, this time round I cannot wait. The knock outs at Germany 2006 were excellent because they had a big game feel atmosphere, Brazil will deliver that.

dont doubt the Aussies would make a great effort..........but the better world cups have always been in countries where football is a way of life.......countries where both attendances and TV audiences are huge.......filling a ground is on think,filling it with people that love the game and not just the event another...........i really think hosting it should be reward for winning it.....
