Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman warns clubs that £10million record signing Gary Medel won't be sold at a loss
By RIATH AL-SAMARRAI

Friday 20th June 2014

Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman has warned clubs interested in Gary Medel that they will not sell their £10million record signing at a loss.

Medel is expected to leave the relegated club after the World Cup, with Valencia leading a group of La Liga sides interested in the midfielder.
The Chilean is understood to have a release clause in his contract which approximately matches the fee Cardiff paid Sevilla last summer - a fee that started at £10million, but featured significant additional payments.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously said Medel ‘deserves to be playing at a higher level than the Championship’ and the 26-year-old’s impressive performances at the World Cup have supported those claims after a mediocre season in Wales.
But Dalman insists no offers have been received and strongly indicated that Medel will not be allowed to leave for less than the record fee Cardiff paid.

He said: ‘After what he’s been doing out in Brazil, there may well be a few offers on the table at the end of the tournament.
‘If so, and Gary comes to me and says he wishes to leave, I will engage in those discussions then.

In demand: Medel is being courted by a number of sides in La Liga

‘But even if that were to be the case, I think it’s fair to say I’m not known as a pushover in negotiations. I’m not in the habit of selling anything at a loss.’

Sportsmail revealed in December the sizeable outlay of Medel’s signing, with his initial £10m fee possibly rising to £15m

dependant on clauses. There was also an agent’s fee of £800,000, a signing-on fee of £1.25m, an image-rights fee of £1.6m for a player who rarely gives interviews, and a weekly basic wage of £35,000.

Dalman added: ‘I hope that once this tournament is over, he will choose to stick around and help us try to regain our place in the Premier League. I’ve had no indication whatsoever from Gary that he may want to go.

Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman wants at least £10million for Medel

Cardiff boss Solskjaer has said that Medel should be playing at a higher level than the Championship

‘People may say that Gary is too good for the Championship. But then we’ve got lots of players who are good enough to play in the Premier League.

‘I’ve no doubts that after what Gary has been doing in this World Cup, there will be interested parties out there.

‘But he is under contract to Cardiff City and sometimes it’s not necessarily about the league you play in, it’s about the club you play for and their ambition.

‘We’ve made six summer signings already and have set out our stall to try to regain instant promotion.’

we won't get £10m for him, £5-6m is probably the best we can hope for!

His release clause is what we paid for him, so interested clubs have a choice pay the money or he stays, I think he is on a 4 year contract, so 3 years left

Look at this way, is he a worse player now than when he arrived, especially considering he is having a decent World Cup, you would have to say- no. Were other clubs other than ourselves wanting to buy him- yes. We obviously offered the most money or at least the best contract, but I don't think there was much in it between us and others. Are Cardiff desperate to sell-no. Do we need to sell-no. So in my opinion, we should get back all that we paid for him

arent we in a position that we need to sell some of these players though?

Medel caulker and Marshall are all on big wages, and you might get something like 20-25m for the lot.

Cardiff were the only option of a move he had was it not? I refuse to believe anybody else had a bid accepted. Strange that he felt he had to move to a club just coming up from the championship and relegation favourites. There is and there was nobody else mental enough to pay that kind of money for him.

Gary Medel is a walking myth in every sense of the word.

How mature of you, you may want to learn what a troll is first though

He was one of the worst performing defensive midfielders in the Premier League - fact. I dont subscribe to hyperboles and dont intend to start now.

Its no surprise he signed for us with the amount of money we are paying him.

Good to see us coming out that we wont be selling him on the cheap. Need to recoup as much money as possible.

Roathy, your getting boring & tedious spouting the same crap all the time. We already know what you think, theres no need to keep repeating yourself. Its borderline obsessive now.

Is it feasible to loan him out for the year? That seems like a compromise :ole:

Why dont you just create your own anti-Medel thread and spout your crap in there, rather than ruining any and every thread that mentions the man!

I never mention the man first, it is conversation. This thread is about you selling him for £10m. :thumbright:

Just something you are going to have to deal with. The more generic hyperbole threads about the man, the more you will hear my view

The fact you think the thread is "ruined" because i simply give an accurate opinion rather than a ridiculous "we want £10m", "best midfielder in the world", "world class" thread tells us all we need to know. "Let us create our hyperbole in peace roathie, we are trying to exaggerate here" :laughing6:

As i said Paul, people are trying to create a myth here. Medel is the biggest myth out there today, the stuff said about him by this forum is bizarre considering his actual ability and performances that we all see week in week out. Never seen anything like it.
