Valencia are leading the race to sign Cardiff and Chile midfielder Gary Medel, who will leave the Bluebirds following relegation.

The 26-year old only joined 12 months ago in an £11m deal from Sevilla but has requested a move after Cardiff dropped down to the Championship in May.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not stand in his way and expects Medel to exit following the World Cup, with Valencia very keen.

Los Che were expected to make an offer for him before the World Cup but their interest apparently cooled as they looked at other targets. However, they are now ready to make their move.

Malaga have also been linked while several Premier League clubs are also watching the situation closely as they ponder making an offer to try and tempt him into staying in the UK.

It is thought an offer in excess of £7m could be enough to land the midfielder, who does favour a return to Spain over extending his stay in the Premier League.

Am I the only person who actually liked Medel. I thought he was great. He was bought to do a specific job and he always seemed to be doing it.

I'm a big supporter of Medel, and I think he's become a scapegoat just because of the money we spent on him. That said, £11m was far too much for a player in the role we were playing him, and so £6m is probably a fair amount. Gotta remember that all our players values have dropped just due to the relegation, so we'd never have got the money back on Medel even if he WAS worth that price initially.

maybe in Spain he could come across as a hard nut, but British football is a totally different animal all together when it comes to physicality...there was no way he was gonna be able to impose himself over here like he was able to in Spain, he certainly got found out lol

£6 million is probably the amount I would expect. Started well last season but was blowing out of his arse towards the end, good to get as much money as we can for him and get his wages off the books

No I think he is class , I personally think he is to good for us and is made to look worse with the players around him(due to amount of goals conceeded) , I think he would thrive in Top 10 team personally with better players around him

First off there's been mention of us spending £11m on medel, yet we don't know the exact extent if the deal, it could of been £6m in cash and then £5m in add ons such as appearances and if we avoid relegation, so we could still be making a profit on the sale of medel.. But I will be sad to see him go, as I would with any other city player. Under Malky he was a beast.

They both were, but it didn't make the good footballers did it, they just had a decent few games in the world cup. Bebe was signed by Man United on hype alone and he was gash.

We have had a whole Prem season to look at Medel and he has been below average. A few games in a tournament isnt going to change that.
