Should Cardiff City give him another chance and keep him?
Sheffield United: Blades wait on Coady and Brayford
John Brayford
Brayford is thought to have grown increasingly disillusioned about his prospects at Cardiff.
Monday 09/06/2014
Sheffield United remain hopeful that Conor Coady and John Brayford could return to Bramall Lane next season despite facing competition from a host of Championship clubs.
Managing director Mal Brannigan told The Star that Nigel Clough, who unveiled Andy Butler and Chris Basham as his latest new signings last week, hopes to complete the majority of his business in the transfer market before United’s first-team squad resume training next month.
However, Brannigan’s acknowledgement that “meaningful discussions” have yet to take place with the duo’s employers indicates Clough is prepared to bide his time in order to reach agreement with Liverpool and Cardiff City respectively.
“Both are still with their parent clubs and we would be interested in both if the potential to do something is there,” Brannigan said. “We’ve not had any meaningful discussions yet but the season, for those clubs, has only just finished. It might be the case that, with regards to Conor and John, something happens late in the (transfer) window.”
Coady, aged 21, made 50 appearances and scored six goals for United after leaving Anfield while Brayford, who had been declared surplus to requirements by City’s then-manager, Malky Mackay, emerged as an influential figure in their march to the semi-finals of theFA Cup.
Brayford is thought to have grown increasingly disillusioned about his prospects in the principality.
Clough has expressed fears that United could be priced out of the market if Solksjaer decides to try to recoup some of the £1.75 million City paid to acquire Brayford’s services 12 months ago while Coady is known to interest Wolverhampton Wanderers.
A number of performance-related clause, potentially worth another £500,000, were inserted into the deal which took Brayford to South Wales.

Not surprised that Brayford is disillusioned. He never really got a chance. No sooner had he arrived here, than Malky goes and signs KTC. Instead of playing in the PL, Brayford finds himself not getting a game, and then loaned out in League 1. Sheffield United are a big club, and Brayford did well, but his season did not work out as planned. I know these blokes are on good money, but footballers want to, wait for it, play football! Either give him a chance, or let him have first choice on a move. Our squad is getting very big now!

I don't think he (Brayford) wants one,,,& i can see ALL Malky & Moody player signings leave our club, one by one, & sooner rather than later!

Another chance !! Did he get one in the first place ? Yes he deserves a chance and so does Kadeem

Totally agree

As others have already said it's hardly "another chance" malky paid £2 million for derbys player of the season and never allowed him anywhere near the first team, he should be given a chance if ole likes what he sees in pre-season, if it works out fine if not, loan him out until christmas and then sell him on.
Mon Jun 09, 2014 9:55 am
He was never given a chance. He should certainly be no1 full back for next season.
Whilst we're talking about defenders and chances, wtf happened to Maximiliano Amondarain?
Yet another quality Milky signing.

100% yes ... He'd compete well with Super Kev, Fabio and Declan John can compete on the left, KTC is good for his versatility and can cover injuries anywhere in defence. Be best if we moved Connolly on then.
Our defence could be...
Left Back - Fabio/John
Centre Back - Hudson/Turner/Cala
Right Back - McNaughton/Brayford

Agreed

Have a look in training and see if Ole likes the look of him.
I wouldn't object to brayford and Theo going.
Mon Jun 09, 2014 11:04 am
What chance? He never got one, he got replaced by a defensively inept French defender who couldn't pass.
I can't see Brayford being here, he really enjoyed his time at Sheff Utd and described it as a proper club. Ole will give him a chance but Brayford will want to return to where he's most happy, under a former manager and where he's fully appreciated. Shame as he's a cracking defender and exactly what we need

I watched Brayford at the Cheltenham friendly and he didn't impress. Brayford was at fault for the first 2 goals at the West Ham cup game and I watched him play a full game at Accrington where he didn't impress either. But I rated Brayford at Derby and his performances for us were probably affected because he never seemed happy here. Brayford showed for Sheffield United how good he is and I'm sure Brayford would have started ahead of Connolly at the start of the season, especially when Malky said he was the "best right back in the Championship".
I think we all agree something has happened behind the scenes. Brayford was loaned out as soon as Ole came in, so the problem couldn't have been solely between Brayford and Malky. Brayford may have upset the players, staff or maybe Tan himself? We will probably never know, but something wasn't right, you don't sign a player who you call the best right back in the Championship and then play Connolly at right back ahead of him. I will be surprised if Brayford is still here next season as to me, it seemed Ole was told by the club to offload him in January. I think whatever Brayford did when he joined us last summer has ruined any chance of him playing for our club.

I don't understand why lots of people want Connolly offloaded. Connolly was one of our best players in the Championship and his versatility is vital. He's also an experienced, solid defender who has been there and done it with ourselves, QPR and Reading. Connolly knows the division inside out and knows how to succeed in the Championship. He is also the type of character you need in a club wanting to get promoted out of the Championship. I'm not bothered one bit if he isn't as able to go on overlapping runs and put crosses over. To keep clean sheets and get wins, your full backs need to be defensively solid and at Championship level, you'll struggle to find a battle hardened centre back/right back as defensively solid as Connolly.

Ole loaned Brayford out due to lack of game time, he couldn't have just thrown him in the deep end

Well he did throw players in at the deep end when putting Cowie back into the team after a 2 month absence. Brayford was playing for the Development team and was in the squad when we won the cup game at Newcastle in January. Brayford would have definitely been fit enough to be involved - if he was wanted.

Wouldn't give him 15% of his weekly earnings

Personally I hope we keep Brayford

Would love to know why Ole immediately bombed him out on loan too.

Because he obviously wasn't match fit after spending 5months+ without any first team football because Malky decided never to use him. Never going to be fit enough for first team Prem action is he? Come on mun.

cowie was in the development team before he went back it to the first team and brayford only played once or twice for the development team so i doubt he was fit and we got kev back so that's why he went out on loan to get game time and give ole a chance to see him play first team football

Not that hard to figure is it?
Hardly played all season and we already had a load of match fit right backs. Problem was malky signed 2 right back and didn't want to play one and the other is not very good.
And at the end of the day he isn't Ole signing and its not Ole who said he was the best fullback in the championship then started Connolly first game of the season.

Still fit enough to make an instant impact for Sheffield United, be one of their star players, help them get to a cup semi final and get all their fans to talk about growing their own beards in honour of him.

In league one
It's madness your having a go Ole over brayford but it doesn't surprise me.

Smell the coffee mate, he wasn't fit enough for the prem because he fell out with Malky and didn't get any game time, not that hard to take on board. Ole put him out on loan to give him game time
