A forum for all things Cardiff City

What do you think? Not the player he once was, but could be okay at this level.
Danny Gabbidon would be open to Cardiff City return as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's search for defenders ahead of Championship kick-off continues
Danny Gabbidon would be open to becoming a Bluebird again as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gets set to step up his search for a centre-back.
Gabbidon impressed as he returned to the international fold in midweek , showing flashes of his old form as Wales put up a fight in defeat to the Brazil-bound Dutch in Amsterdam.
His performance earned plaudits from national boss Chris Coleman, but the 34-year-old will be hoping it also catches the eye of potential suitors having been left without a club following his release from Crystal Palace.
The 49-cap international was told he was free to go by Eagles manager Tony Pulis despite making 24 Premier League appearances last year – his most outings in the last four years after fighting back from a career-threatening groin problem.
Several clubs are thought to be looking at the former West Ham and QPR ace but it is understood the Cwmbran-born defender would relish the chance to link-up with Cardiff City for the second-time of his career.
Gabbidon first rose to prominence with Cardiff before making his switch to the top-flight with the Hammers and was close to returning to South Wales when Dave Jones made a move for him in 2011.
Cardiff are on the hunt for a centre-back as they brace themselves for the loss of captain Steven Caulker with Southampton joining Tottenham in the clubs believed to be targetting the England international.
While it is not clear whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would consider a Bosman swoop for the classy centre-back, it is understood Gabbidon would welcome any chance for a second stint with the club where he made his name.

Not for me, I like gabby but we r not a retirement home anymore.

Great player for us and never let us down but he is getting on now and although he started 22 games for Palace last season he has been a bit injury prone for a couple of seasons before that.
But if we could get him on a pay as you play contract then he would be more than worth the risk in my opinion.

Please no

No thanks remember he was too good for us 3 seasons ago well we are too good for him now oh and every time he has played back at cardiff he has forgot what the ayotollah is

No fecking chance ten years too late !!!

Pay as you play would be good. He's got good experience, local player and if we're going forward with Hudson, Turner and Cala we need a 4th that would be prepared to not make the bench most weeks.

Not for me, loved him for us but that time has gone. Time to move on, we don't want to be bringing players in at the ends of their career anymore if we want to move forward as a club IMO

Have to agree with others about pay as you play.
Sat Jun 07, 2014 5:16 pm
I would have him back
Sat Jun 07, 2014 5:21 pm
Another player out of contract this summer, with his agent busting a gut to earn him & him a last big fat chunky crust.
Time moves on,,,no thanks!

As much as I like to have Gabbidon back at our club, don't think its the answer in the long term.
We should just move on from this.
However, I wouldn't mind having someone like Adam Matthews or Chris Gunter back at our club. With the latter being more like available with the ongoing financial situation at Reading.

Not even good enough for Newport County
He's having a laugh if he thinks Cardiff City
Would be ideal for him
Must be thinking we are running a retirement home for crocked footballers

1 year contract you can't go wrong was very very good for palace last year.
Sat Jun 07, 2014 8:50 pm
I think he has a good year or two left in him
Think he passes better than Hudson or turner.
Could help nugent, OSHi and the Uruguayan with his experience.
Like the pay as you play idea

Why do so many on here think he couldn't hack it in the Championship next season? He still has pace and is calm in possession. He looked fine against Holland in midweek. He's got experience of the Championship and can also play at fullback. He wouldn't command a big wage at his age. Personally I'd have him back for a season.

Sun Jun 08, 2014 8:44 am

Palace fan here
Some comments on here are harsh, he was brilliant for us last year and Im sorry to see him, was also very good for Wales last week.
A premiership quality defender imo

No

Cant believe some of the comments on here.
Would be a great back up. Far more comfortable on the ball than anyone else we have here currently. Put in a really good performance for wales last week as well as playing well for palace.
His wages would concern me. But id be more confident with him than hudson for example

No Thanks Gabbidon

I think we should lay the red carpet down and welcome him back with open hands. He has always played well for Wales against better strikers than we will face in the championship.
For the record he and Collins were sold to west ham as a joint package (we cashed in on them). I've never heard him bad mouth the club or fans in any way and his experience will help us stop conceding stupid early and last minute goals.

My gut says no but the fact he can play the black from defence may mean Ole would be interested.

totally different positions which makes a big difference regarding age!!

Gabbs was better than all our defenders last year including the so called brilliant coulker, palace supporters thought he did a good job for them and they stayed up and we didn't enough said I would welcome him as he is far better than hudson
