Mexico 86 for me, Maradona was pure class and virtually won the tournament on his own, as that was a very average Argentinian Team!

I don't think there's been a good world cup for over 20 years!!!
Sat Jun 07, 2014 1:28 pm
86 and 90 were my favs. 86 just shades it as its first world cup i remember.
94 was dissapointing, 98 was ok, 2002 was crap, 2006 was good, 2010 boring, especually Spain and their keep ball tactics. Effective but snoozefest for the neutral.
I am hoping for a Brasil v Argentina final. Should get the juices flowing.

Spain 82, a great game Italy v Brazil in the quarter final (if i remember correctly).
Didn't Northern Ireland beat Spain in the qualifying groups??
Sat Jun 07, 2014 5:50 pm
Notice how the poor World Cups weve had since 1990 have been in countries where football is not a major spirt? South Korea, USA, South Africa?
Hopefully with it being in Brasil, where they live and breath football, it will be an exciting one.

Italia 90 was fantastic, fusion of football and the local culture. Should be the blueprint for all world cups. 94 was a bit of a non event, 98 okay. 2002 was a bit awkward due to timezones but the football was good. I didn't really enjoy the last world cup to be honest.
2006 deserves it's own paragraph though as it was my favorite World cup, the weather was boiling and some of the football was class. There was some real heavyweight clashes throughout the tournament. The England team at the time was full of superstars and with Sven and the Wags they acted more like celebrities than footballers.
My favorite non city related day of football was Portugal Vs. England followed by Brazil Vs. France in the quarters. Could even tell you the date, July 1st 2006. Mates birthday BBQ, loads of booze, over 50 people there, massive television outside, excellent games of football, Ronaldo winking and Brazil getting knocked out of a tournament they were meant to win. Italy Vs. Germany in the semis was a great game also, really wanted the Germans to win it for putting on a great World Cup. The Zidane headbutt in the final topped it all off.
I often think if your life is going well during a World cup you will look back on it favorably and if it your'e in the doldrums you will hate it. You always remember where you are during massive World cup games.

Both Italia 90 and the 86 tournament were classic,
I think in recent years the World cup has not reached it's potential, The days of maradonna single handedly tearing sides apart.
Maybe this year messi can inspire Argentina to the world cup or we can see a dark horse go all the way

I think moden footballs safety first approach has a lot to answer for. Plus the mobey the players earn now international football isnt the peak of a career it once was.

I only properly watched the 2006 and 2010.
Watched some games of the 2002 but didn't really watch it all from start to finish.
2010 was ruined by the ref's and officials, the better countries not delivering like Italy and France.

1982 for me palo rossi finishing top notch and pure quality ido prefer the euros to the world cup

First one I can remember clearly was England in 1966. Enjoyed them all, to be honest. Really hope that FIFA will change their minds on Quatar in 2022. It would be farcical. Only countries with a football tradition, and the stadia and infrastructure, should get the greatest sporting event of all, the World Cup.

Italia 90 was a classic....
