Fraizer Campbell will leave Cardiff City for Premier League return after Leicester City trigger his £800,000 release clause
Jun 05, 2014

Because
After Cardiff City signed strikers Javi Guerra, Adam Le Fondre and Federico Macheda already this summer, Fraizer Campbell looks set to be the first frontman to leave - it has today been confirmed

Thursday 5th June 2014.

Leicester City have triggered Fraizer Campbell’s release clause at Cardiff with an £800,000 bid for the striker.

The 26-year-old was the Bluebirds’ top scorer in all competitions last season with nine goals as they were relegated from the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been desperate to keep the England international to spearhead their promotion challenge next term.

But those chances appear to be receding after these latest developments.

Campbell will now be allowed to hold talks with the Foxes on Friday under the terms of the release clause.

West Brom, who are still without a manager, had been strongly linked with the marksman but a deal has been unable to progress while they continue their search.

Everton and QPR had also been associated with the former Manchester United youngster as they seek to bolster their respective attacks this summer.

However, the newly-promoted club appear to have stolen a march on their rivals and Nigel Pearson will hope to convince Campbell to make a switch.

If you didn't agree to the clause then maybe he wouldn't have signed for you.

You have had your moneys worth even if he walked on a free id argue. One of the few that impressed me (and surprised me) for you guys last season.

We got some good fire power in our squad now, wouldn't be too bothered to see him go to be honest

Another scam from Malkey and Moody
That's the most disgusting deal ever for a premier league striker
The clause should have been at least £3 million
There is no doubt that those to had no interest I'm the good of Cardiff City to create deals like that
All you Malkey lovers out there I hope you now all realise what a tw*t this guy was whilst he was with us despite promotion

100% agree, A ridiculous state of affairs and we seem to have a habit of 'giving players away', e.g Mc Cormack when he went for pittance and then we try to sign him back for 5million +. We did buy him for £650,000 but to put such a low release clause on him just did not make sense. In today's market you could easily ask at least3 times that figure.

Grabbans release clause was 3 mill , puts it into perspective doesn't it.

If Jones had put that release clause in there would be mayhem but because its Malky his faithful are very quiet.

Although I'm not gutted to see him go there's no doubt £800k is a joke and its only the fact that we've gone and bagged Le Fondre on a bargain that makes me think we will be okay.

Seems Ole is again having to make up for their mistakes. No doubt Malky knew about this clause. It may very well have been Lim or Moody who proposed contracts and one of them signing them off but I do believe Malky knew.

Funny how a fist pump and charismatic charm has fooled so many people. Tan may be a knob on the rebrand issue but when it comes to all the money issues I suspect he's correct.

Agree , I was Jones fan and didn't think he should of gone , he was a miserbale b*stard but we did play more entertaining football under him.

It is shocking that Campbell has that release clause way to cheap

We signed Campbell for a £650k when Sunderland wanted rid and it turned out to be a fantastic piece of business for the club. I have no doubt that the biggest factor in his decision to sign for us was our position at the top of the Championship and whilst he only started 9 games for us that season he managed 7 goals in those matches which, in my opinion, was a massive factor in getting us over the line.

He took a chance with us and I'm not surprised that he got a sell on clause in his contract because he wants to play in the PL. Whatever way you look at this as a PL player with Sunderland he was valued at £650K and now as a Championship player he is valued at £800k so it's not that bad a deal. Where were the PL clubs offering £3m+ for him when Sunderland wanted to offload him ? nowhere and right now it another promoted club willing to take a chance on him.

He always gave his best for us and the £650k we paid has been repaid over and over with his contribution to our promotion and I thank him for everything he done for us and wish him well.

The article states OGS is desperate to keep him....well its hardly sending out the right messages to campbell by going out and signing 3 strikers so soon into the transfer window. OGS...you continue to confuse me.

he has a rotation policy we will probably play up to 50 games so he wants to have about 4 strikers he can rotate in and out to keep them fresh through out the season

4 strikers are a must for next season so this should mean Maynard will be staying and thats not bad in my opinion.

This. Players & Agents look for clauses as much as much as clubs & managers do. The clever thing would have been to offer a new contract upon promotion and remove such clauses, in my opinion.

defiantly will be interesting to see if maynard will stay but we did need need to bring in a few strikers of the same quality if we want to get promoted again

35 goals in 152 English league career apps - is worse than I thought, especially when you consider half of those came in 1 season at Hull.....

Wouldn't be too disappointed if he went

Frazier gave 100% every time he walked onto the pitch for us. Not a great goalscorer by any means but a great attitude and commitment. If he stays then fine but if he leaves then good luck to him. He deserves the respect he's given us fans and the club during his time here. :ayatollah:

Seriously I have no idea what people on this forum are on about sometimes. FC is a very good lower half of the premier striker who is just coming into his own. He would have eaten the championship alive next year for us. A Darren Huckerby type, great at that level but can't quite make the top grade at premiership level.

Defo would have got 20+ next year.

Javi Guerra, Adam Le Fondre and Federico Macheda

None of these will do that.

Re: UPDATED ' Fraizer Campbell is leaving Cardiff City ' Bec

Fri Jun 06, 2014 2:24 am

Apart from his effort, attitude and energy on the pitch, I believe OGS likes and respects Campbell's efforts in training.

Malky said the same thing about Fraizer that he was one the first into training and the last one to leave, with a great attitude. That is a massive boost to any coach and manager as it inspires others when training.

He did lack composure in front of goal on many occasions last season, due to enormous pressure of having so few chances and had he put some more of his chances away, we may have escaped relegation, though I am not blaming FC for the relegation.

He is certainly a player to retain at this level, if possible.

You have to scratch your head and wonder at this club's fan base sometimes.

Not as good as he thinks he is. Only lower half Premier teams are interested in him (like us last year). Strikes me as a bit of a mercenary too. Thanks for everything, but bye!
