" I never wanted to leave, but they had to pay the Tax man '

Fri May 30, 2014 3:23 pm

Friday 30th May 2014

Adam Le Fondre has today revealed that Reading sold him to Cardiff City so they could pay their tax bill.

Le Fondre told the Reading Post “It was never my intention to leave Reading. I’ve stated before that my family is settled here, but I guess its just one of those things.”

“The club is struggling financially and haven’t been able to offer me a new contract which I thought was coming last year.”

“Then a bid came in from Cardiff which was to good to turn down.”

Le Fondre added “I know Nick Hammond and the gaffer didn’t want me to go.

“Nick was in touch with my agent and he passed on that the club didn’t want to lose me but they had no option.”

“They just could not afford to keep me with the tax bill looming.”

“It’s not a nice time for the club and I hope they get it sorted sooner rather than later.”

Le Fondre scored 41 times in 109 appearances for Reading

Readings loss is our gain, shame a club has been put in that situation but I'm not complaining getting him cheap

Yes before the 'nasty horrible dictator' turned up and changed the way the clubs financial capabilites upside down, from winding up orders to multi million pound signings, waiting for the Tan out crowd to get excited about new signings and renewed contracts so I can roll my eyes at the hypocrites.

Thought some Russian billionaire owned them, or have I got the wrong club? Crazy how fast things can change in football, not so long ago they were celebrating promotion to the premier league and a 70odd million jackpot that goes with it, and now they are struggling to pay the bills.

He never got abuse the first year,so why did he not keep to his promise then?
Also it is 100% nothing to do with the fans. :thumbright: :bluescarf:

So did he not want to leave but they had to pay the tax bill

Or did he come to us as Ole was his boyhood hero.

Bloody double headers. :)

in answer ..he was actually still spending...........had he turned debt to equity 2 years ago..........we would still be in debt to the tune of what he has ploughed in since............
the fans..and i include myself.. dont buy into the red.............he can see its not worked at any level............
if he leaves through the abuse and hatred though,im afraid its plenty to do with some of the fans.....
blue and league 2,my arse.......been there..by magic 20,000 turns into 4,000.........and the huge majority of those singing that wanker song never ever did those days.............
this club belongs at the top table.........ive believed that from my 1st game and still do............Tan will leave,on good terms or bad...we will revert to blue.........bad terms......how bad do you want it to be?.

Exactly. It's nothing to do with the fans. If he stays, we support the team. If he goes, we support the team. The fans have no influence whatsoever over the club owners. :ole:

A return to Blue will make one hell of a difference. But it just can't be seen.

We hear contracts have been signed to keep us red and another seasons wait, what difference does it make? Can't we just play in red away and get a few extra blue for home. As has been said many a times VT's advisers have no bottle or skills in negotiation, yes sir no sir three red bags full sir!

Re: " I never wanted to leave, but they had to pay the Tax ma

to think, if it weren't for VT you could argue that's exactly where we would be, but it isn't! without vt we would cease to be! and for all those arguing someone woukd come in, I don't see them beating down reading's door

Leeds keep getting excited about new owners and new dawns........Reading are up to their eyes in it......yet some think we are more attractive than these clubs attracting equally good crowds.........one close to London, the other with a history of trophies.......

so if the canton stand sang...YOU are a wanker every game by name...it would have no influence on how you feel?
and dont forget..not from Cardiff, and not from Wales.......
if he goes and we are in a financial mess..a lot less will support the team.......its how football is.........WE becomes a smaller we.....

It's not all about the money. I know a fair few people who would rather happiness over money. For me, who cares about the prem, if we were to get there I would like us to earn it not buy it. You might be some red glory hunter who doesn't mind red with a red bank balance. For me I'd rather League 2 in Blue posting profits year on year and gradually building. Go roll your eyes sunshine and hopefully you can go roll off a cliff.

the fans that actually did the 50 years of league 2 gradually building and posting profits year after year realise THAT DIDNT HAPPEN THEN........AND WILL NOT THIS TIME.........ive had a season ticket 22 years, been going for over 40........and i know plenty who like me have gone years and years aint glory hunters......but prefer top end football to that crap all over  again........its a capitol city ffs.....
