Don't know what to make of this signing if I'm honest. Hasn't exactly set the world alight at his previous clubs, but he's still only young, so maybe ole can get him firing
Mon May 26, 2014 9:57 pm
I was unsure on this because I couldn't remember him doing anything apart from his debut, however 10 goals in 18 games for a poor Birmingham side gives me hope, especially on a free. Could be a gem
Has OGS worked with him before?

Wonder what this does to Grabban if Ole if playing 442 then Grabban and Macheda must make up the worker and Guerra and Campbell as the finishers.
Which is fine but it means the end of Maynard and Mason which is a shame.
If he's looking at a 5 man midfield with a number 10 (Dæhli, Mutch, Burgstaller maybe Mason?) then you can really only have three strikers in your squad Macheda, Guerra, Grabban? Lots of names out the door in that scenario.
Odd to think Malky was at the club for two and a half years. Yet next season our best XI might only contain one of his players (Noone).
Yet, Marshall, Whitts and Hudson could be in our best XI 3 years after jones left and McNaughton is still there!

on a free transfer, we can't complain! decent record with a struggling brum, just needs some consistent game time! he was at United for years, must have something in him!
Bellamy, Smith, Lappin and maybe Cowie gone frees up some wages, and Macheda will only take up a small chunk of what has been freed up!

Positive is he had a good spell with Birmingham and he's on a free.
He needs stability and hopefully that will do him well here.
What happens with Grabban? We did have a bid accepted so bit of a pickle.

I hope we aren't completely overhauling our strike force if we get Grabban too. I trust in Ole to do well but I hope we can keep a few of our current strikers.

Lifting this off wiki:
Following his retirement, Solskjær worked for Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, coaching the strikers on the first team for the remainder of the 2007–08 season. From 2008 till 2011 he was the reserve team manager at United.
Macheda signed his first professional contract with Manchester United on his 17th birthday in August 2008.[8] In the 2008–09 season, he continued in the under-18 side, while also making a few appearances for the reserves. Towards the end of the season, Macheda enjoyed an extended run in the reserve team, scoring eight goals in eight games, including a hat-trick in a 3–3 draw with Newcastle United on 30 March 2009,[9] and he was rewarded by being selected for the first team for the match against Aston Villa on 5 April 2009.

Eh. Still a little underwhelmed but a little happier after seeing his stats at Birmingham and considering he is free and young (and hopefully not too much on wages!) then I guess it is a good signing.

I can't see us going for Grabban and Macheda. Unless there was a total cull with Jones, Campbell and Maynard leaving

If I was Bournemouth I would be looking at trying to pinch Maynard off us, at the same time they seem happy to get 3 million.

Great signing imo

i wouldn't bother going for grabban don't need him

Good signing in my opinion and still young enough to develop into the player many expected he would. Almost certainly offer more than Jones at the moment and compared to the Cornelius deal last summer this represents a fantasic deal for the club.
But we are really top heavy with strikers now, more so if Grabben signs, so surely the writing is on the wall for Jones, Maynard and Mason. Would still like to keep Campbell though as in the Championship he has what it takes to score 20+ goals.
If Campbell does leave then surely we keep Maynard and the same should apply if we miss out on Grabben as we will need 4 strikers next season.

Perhaps he needs a bit of belief shown to him like Fabio got, good signing on a free IMO.

I think it's a great signing he's still young , Ole is now getting his players he wants to play to his style of playing

he certainly is

I seem to be in a minority & just don't fancy this signing.
Hope I'm proved wrong & he smashes it though!

Great signing. It looks like ole will be playing a big man up to guerra/Macheda with a quick striker playing off one of them, preferably Campbell but we ll have to wait and see.

Quality of passing supply. Macheda plays on the ground, and needs his supply to feet or to run onto. Birmingham with their crossing game did not have anywhere near as good supply on the ground as Cardiff will have with Dæhli, Eikrem and Whitts.

Better be confirmed today, hate waiting for it to be confirmed

Only 10 starts in the 18 games for Brum
Lots of strikers potentially:-
Campbell
Maynard
Mason
Jones
Velikonja
Guerra
Macheda
Grabban
Le Fondre

Given the choice of all of them I'd still put my money on Mason to be the likeliest to get a goal.

Whats the big deal with Maynard and Mason, certain posters seem to be in love with them. Maynard is injury prone and his record is shocking. Masons record was terrible while playing for us, and unless he really has matured this season, there is no way I would have him in our team ahead of Le Fondre/Macheda at this moment in time.
Not only that, but given these players really want to come here to play for Ole says a lot to me as well. They will work hard for him and we could end up seeing the insane potential Macheda once promised! That and Le Fondre was an absolute beast as a super sub in the premier league, so we would have atleast one striker up to the task next season!
(assuming they sign) realistically our best 4 strikers would have to be:
Guerra
Campbell
Macheda
Le Fondre
Get rid of Kenwyne ASAP on his reported 37000 a week wages, and I would get shot of all the other strikers bar maybe Mason and loan him out in hope that this is the season he matures!
As for the one season wonder Grabban, screw paying 3 million for someone who only managed 15 goals from regular play in his only good season. As someone on another thread said, if it helps him stay, give Fraizer a wage rise as he is a better player by far and it will be much cheaper than bringing Grabban in.
Tue May 27, 2014 2:54 pm
I don't have any time for Maynard but Mason's record of 15 league goals for us in the equivalent of 43 games playing time is definitely worth shouting about. For me he is a far more consistent finisher than Campbell yet never got a chance this season.
Rudy Gestede scored 7 in the equivalent of 19 games playing time for us and then scored loads when he went to Blackburn. I expect Mason will do the same if he moves on.

I thought it was all gonna be confirmed yesterday.
it's getting a bit boring and repetitive to be honest hearing that we're signing Grabbam/Macheda/LeFondre when, at the moment, we haven't signed a single one of them. Until the club announce something then I'll hold my breath before judging.
I remember the day when the news was reporting on something that has happened rather than something that might or is due to happen.
