Spot f*cking on.

DJ had his faults but he knew his football and played a great brand of the game. We haven't come close to the entertainment provided by his sides since he left.

LONG LIVE THE KING DAVE JONES

Yes managers all make mistakes, Malky had a transfer window full of them.

all managers make shit signings , (Malky - Andreas Cornellious ) the football under DJ was entertaining to watch and I was one of the few which were a bit disappointed to see him go , if he had the budget Malky had we would of got promoted under him I think

this rumour been doing the rounds for about 2 weeks now

can't see it happening but my head says it would be a good move as DJ is an experienced pro working at championship level

personally would love to see matteo here as the manager full stop

I don't think director of football works in British football.

a lot thats said about DJ is totally unfair, the min anyone mentions poor MMsignings ,this guy gets thrown up.....reality, we are mid way through march in a season that promises a potential promotion......we have an injury crisis......this isnt june or july where there are players out of contract and agents busy pushing moves........who the hell do you find in mid march.?..similar with byewater..we had 2 keepers injured..without a war chest where do you find a half descent keeper in march ??..he went out and signed a keeper with prem experience, England under 21 caps, and who had been Derbys 1st choice that season prior to injury..........as with JLS, who can u sign in march?.....yes he was a disaster..but i doubt any manager could have found a keeper with as much experience........

Re: Dave jones - Director of football

Good post Soulofthesea (Can I call you c**t?)

On paper the JLS signing was astute and like you said who the hell else was available. The lad has played almost 250 premier league games and as we have found out this season if your shite you won't stay in that league long. He was also relatively young. MM latest summer transfer window is surely the worst for any newly promoted PL team and to compare his and DJs signings is a nonsense if you are trying to make Mackay look like 'Arry.

Re: Dave jones - Director of football

The Brayford signing was worse than the JLS one. At least JLS played.

Dave Jones was a great manager for us and its only now that hes gone that I have realised just how great. He made us loads of money through transfer dealings, brought in some true quality players for next to nothing and he did this whilst the club was in financial turmoil.

Give me a stubborn b*stard that can do that any day over a charismatic manager who splashes £10m+ over 2 championship seasons. If Jones was backed as Malky was, which he never was as he always had to sell to buy in his time with us and the transfer balance sheets all prove that, then we'd have destroyed the league and would have gone up playing better football.

Re: Dave jones - Director of football

Malky came across more stubborn than DJ just worked the median better.
DJ was to honest, it's what I liked. Reminds me of Warnock.

Re: Dave jones - Director of football

Mon May 05, 2014 12:12 am

Loved dave jones had some great days under him regardless of the miserable c**t he was

Read his book and I'm retry sure you'll realise why the man has trust issues with the media and trust issues in general

He worked miracles here on show string budgets he enever had the best of both worlds ie big transfer budget and big wage budget he had one decent season where he got a decent wage budget and had to use that for loans beacuse he didn't have the transfer budget to buy players to match those wages always going to end in disaster

His book is an excellent read.

Spot on.

We need him back. He has Championship experience and knows what it takes to get us up there in that division and away from the trap door. With Ole i'm worried he may buy players not good enough and we go down again. The lack of fight is the most worrying thing at the moment and if you dont battle in the Championship you'll get bullied off the pitch.

Re: Dave jones - Director of football

Mon May 05, 2014 12:19 am

Ole has built successful teams before, he has potential to do it. I think it could go either way. I liked DJ, I don't want him back.

I'm not overall in ole but I don't see any option who would be better or cost effective.

Re: Dave jones - Director of football

Mon May 05, 2014 1:24 am

Ole has pulled some bargains already and I think it is unfair rule him incapable of handling the transfers just because he didn't manage to replace half a premier league team for £7m. (I mention this because I doubt he'd accept a new contract if working under a D.O.F.)

People compare jones and malky most say jones never achieved promotion but jones also done everything on the cheap compared to malkys whopper budget he had and lets be fair most managers would have taken us up with what budget malky was given :ayatollah:

Spot on Ian. Most sensible thing you've said in months. :old:

Jones made us £20m+ due to his transfer market dealings.

Malky blew more than £10m in our promotion season alone. If Jones hadn't played the market so well we probably wouldn't have made the Premier League as we'd have most likely hit the financial brick wall seasons ago. If im a businessman like Tan, I want an astute operator when it comes to finances as my manager but one that can also keep you up there in the mix. Jones is that man. I'd bring him back. For all his faults, stubbornness, boring personality and taking his golf days off he actually kept us up there, took us to a cup final, helped us achieve cup upsets, took us to playoffs at Wembley and helped us make money in the transfer market. The transfer balance sheet doesn't lie. Jones was great for us but we let our opinion of him as a boring git and the bottlers tag overshadow what was going on behind closed doors.

After DJ's comments regarding OGS not being the right man, I can't see OGS being happy with him coming in as a Director of Football.
