Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell set to leave relegated club to join Sunderland
May 04, 2014 By Dave Kidd
Campbell wants top flight football, and Sunderland boss Gus Poyet will have his eyes on the striker if the Black Cats stay up
Michael SteeleSummer switch: Campbell could make his way north-east
Fraizer Campbell will leave Cardiff if the club are relegated this summer – with former side Sunderland in the running, along with Newcastle and Stoke.
The former Manchester United and England striker is available for around £5million and several Premier League clubs have already shown interest.
Campbell left Sunderland for Cardiff last summer, but Gus Poyet is interested in re-signing the striker.
He will face stiff competition with North East rivals Newcastle and Stoke boss Mark Hughes also interested in a player who has netted nine times for a struggling side this season.
Palace chief Tony Pulis is also keen but relations between Cardiff and the Selhurst Park club are too fractious for a deal to be done between the clubs following the recent ‘team sheet’ incident.

Hope not, one of the few bright spots this season

Jack totally agree, one of Malky's best signings, we need Fraizer next season, the type of player that will score 20 plus goals in the Championship and battles for 90 minutes.

Well we will make a profit, Malky's best buy.
Sun May 04, 2014 10:43 am
There may as well be a specific thread for these stories because every player we have is going to be linked to someone in the next few weeks and probably only 1/10 will have some truth in it .

For 5m I'd let him go, we need to start recouping money that we have wasted. He deserves another chance in prem for his hard work alone. I'd wish him well.

annis he was joint top scorer with whitts last year in the championship with 8 goals and was another reason we needed a quality striker in the summer.

Topics like this should be put in a rumour thread because its purely guess work,
If Fraizer stay he will score goals for fun next season, like he did with Hull in 2007/8 and us the year we went up... He is designed for the championship!

I'm not sure if your post is slating Campbell, but he got 7 goals in 12 appearances last season after a long time without playing. If he stays he'd definitely be worth a punt on top goalscorer

Sell him for a few million then get Rudy back.
Sun May 04, 2014 11:18 am
Spot on Steve we needed a striker going into the season hence we went for odemwingie but he never showed his best at Cardiff down to malkays style,if we can get 5m then for me we should sell, next season is going to be the toughest in years we are gna need to rebuild

no im in no way slating him and i believe this is the fittest he has been in a number of years as he normally misses a lot of games each season through injury.
with the fact that he only played so few games in what i believe is a physically more challenging league is the reason we needed in my opinion two new strikers for the prem and we need to address that problem in the summer as we cant rely on him playing 40 odd games

I hate to sound so negative about Campbell because as a player I love him, he tries hard and always nuts 110% effort in. But I wouldn't be sad to see him go, when it comes to footbaing ability I don't believe he's too great. If we made a profit on him great.

Steve, I reckon he can do a brilliant job for us next season, he is fit now and hungry for success.

Not good enough for premiership, but will score loads at championship level, top class work rate but his finishing let him down this season

Always so much gossip from the time a team goes down to almost the start to next season. If he wants to stay I wouldn't make a fuss, if he wanted to leave... I wouldn't make a fuss. Either way I very much doubt he is a player for the future.

so now chaulker is staying and frazier is leaving? hmmm
well i don't actually mind frazier going in the sense that we need a striker that can score.
can't fault fraziers work rate though.

Only if he has the right players around him, we need a few changes to help him out

I find him quite underwhelming.

Sell him and get McCormack or Rhodes in or someone. Fraizer is not as clinical as some make out.

Or give Mason a chance as first choice, now there's someone who can finish for those who doubt Campbell
Sun May 04, 2014 12:43 pm
Sell him, not good enough imo, dwells on the ball to often and misses key chances too often. We need a more clinical striker and goalscorer. He would do a job in the championship but I'd take the money for him and re invest in someone else like Ross McCormack who is a proven championship goalscorer
Sun May 04, 2014 1:16 pm
I find it hard to believe that anyone would pay 5mill for a striker like Campbell. 100% effort and conditioning like a midfielder. But where`s the finishing and goals?
Cambell is one of the reasons we got relegated this season. 36 Matches and 6 goals. 58 shots total but 38 of them haven`t even hit the target.
I dont care if he runs twice as much as others when he got 30 midfielders over him on the top scorer list. This is a no brainer for me, sell him for that amount!!
