West Bromwich Albion set to ditch blue and white stripes

Albion look set to ditch their traditional blue and white stripes next season in favour of a new ‘pinstripe’ shirt.

The Baggies are set to unveil next season’s kit in the next few weeks and it is understood the home shirt will be predominantly white with a narrow blue ‘pinstripe’.

If confirmed, the shirt will be the biggest break with Hawthorns tradition since the Second World War and the first time since the 1990s that Albion have broken away from their normal ‘even’ stripes.

The club today refused to comment but the shirt was pictured earlier this week ahead of a PR launch later this summer, and details were leaked into social media.

Sources told the Express & Star that the home shirt will be mainly white, although club insiders have insisted it will still feature a stripe.

That is expected to be narrow, however.

An artist's impression of what the new Albion kit might look like
Pictures of the kit have not leaked out but manufacturers Adidas, with whom the club announced a new two-year deal last night, have previously redesigned Southampton’s famous red and white striped kit, replacing it with a predominantly red design.

Albion first played in blue and white stripes in the 1880s after a wide range of kits in their early years, and they have worn the colours since 1892, barring a five-year period in blue shirts and white shorts in the 1940s.

They opted for their famous ‘barcode’ kit in the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons with the design, featuring blue stripes of varying widths, proving popular with supporters.

The Baggies will remain with the kit supplier until the end of the 2015-16 season.

The club switched two years ago after they ended their long-standing partnership with Umbro.

Albion’s kits for next season will be launched in the next few weeks.

Maybe we are seeing a move away from traditional colours , I can see a lot of teams going this way in the future :(

Clubs changing their football kits has been happening for years nothing new.

Will be interesting to see how their fans react though

Not quite in the same catastrophic league as our delightful kit colour change though.

Thats no where near what we suffered. Infact that could be quite acceptable.

This. If Tan offered us a blue kit with blue or/and yellow pinstripes I'd accept it. What we got was much worse. That's not even that bad. Its just a change of design if anything which is common and not a complete change of colours as what Tan forced on us.

Pffft. They still keep their colours. Just a kit design change that as as im concerned not a rebrand.

To be fair, I do like that kit, got a classic look to it

Yes, they ditched red and white stripes for a mostly red top.

Everyone knows Albion for their blue and white stripes - seems a crazy move marketing wise.

This could be a shrewd move as the popularity of soccer in the USA gains momentum.

Is it just me, or is it similar to baseball, basketball and even some American football kit?

I think it looks good and has retained the colours of the club (hint, hint VT)

Why are you all obsessed by kit changes?

Hasn't there been enough pain regarding kit changes in our club and now you are talking about other clubs possible kits.

Pointless thread

not worth mentioning, not a patch on what we've gone through, only thinner f*cking stripes

They originally began the process with a pin stripe home shirt.

I agree. Its very early to mid 80s retro. I like it.

Hardly a rebrand at all. They still have blue stripes albeit very thin. We were completely changed on a whim. I bet they won't keep this kit for more than 5 years. Southampton will revert back to stripes soon too.

I wonder if they'll boycott? :ayatollah:

sticky? its barely a change, more so a 'going back to classical' look same as soton did. however i do quite like it, looks smart and neat. similar to a few others kits though i.e greece.

It wasn't really a rebrand thread , just interesting that another club have gone against their traditional colours .

Be honest one of the clubs that stand out in british football is west broms even navy and white stripes . Similar to say celtics green and white hoops , norwich's yellow . When you turn the tv on you can tell its west brom , in this kit it could be anybody .
