" I miss the edge at our club! "

Mon Apr 21, 2014 12:19 pm

Am I the only one who hates the fact that we are now a family club?

Part of me is ashamed to say it, but I hate it. I used to love going to football when there was that bit of edge about it, but it has completely gone and football in this country is no longer the same.

It pisses me off when I see our fans having love ins with other fans.
I loved the fact that everyone hated us. Now we are just an irrelevant club like Watford or Norwich.

I love going abroad these days to places like turkey cos football is still a passion rather than an event like going to the cinema.

I get more and more disillusioned with football in this country every year. Perhaps the problem is me not everyone else but surely me and my mates can't be the only ones that feel this way?!

Yeah the old days were great, but time moves on.

No. I honestly couldn't care less about dropping the divisions to be honest as I reckon we'd get our edge back and the thing that made it special in the first place going down the Ninian. Back then it wasn't just about winning and of course we wanted to win but it was about turning out and uniting with fellow like minded people who wanted a good day out with their fellow fans and the best for their local sports team. At the top its all about money and looking good just like our capitalist country. Well I'm more than content in both work to do enough to get by if it means being happy and my club in league 1 if it means cheap football, a good day out with great fans supporting the team no matter.

Money and status isn't everything to me yet to some it is. Having a club should be more about community, socialism with fellow fans and having a good day out and supporting the team through thick and thin. If we lose 4-0 so be it but don't frigging boo because there'll be good days and bad days and its the bad days that make the good days so special when they come. I'd hate supporting a team that wins all the time. The roller coaster of being a Cardiff fan is what makes it all the more appealing.

As much as i'll be slated for this opinion I think the CSS is a terrible stadium and that we should have built a 23,000 seater closed knit hell hole with the stands as close to the pitch as possible in line with H&S regs and built catering to acoustics. Instead we built a Welsh Legoland and its crap. People can say its the fans and not the stadium but the stadium does play a massive part. Go to other stadiums on the continent where they're closer to the pitch and some of them are extremely intimidating.

Just being honest how I feel. Others may feel differently but thats up to them. They have their own reasons that are up to them. No one is right or wrong. Its all down to your own personal feelings.

What is this "edge"?

Fighting?

Re: I miss the edge at our club!

Sadly Barnett its is 100% the fans and nothing to do with stadium accoustics. As proved by the atmosphere at certain games. When the fans can be bothered the CCS is rocking.

Disagree. Go to more games in Europe if you think that plus there are even some in teh UK with stands closer to the pitch and its much better.

Dortmund - close to the pitch.

Spurs - White Hart Lane

Liverpool - Anfield

Plenty of smaller clubs too. To say it doesn't add to the intimidation factor is laughable.

When the fans can be bothered the CCS is rocking.

Not sure if a joke or not. Yes it can be good but nothing like the heights reached elsewhere. It is not 100% down to the fans because acoustics do play a part. Anyone suggesting they dont clearly hasn't grasped physics.

Always felt once we climbed through the leagues the club would change.

Guys that follow their teams in the lower divisions are the passionate ones. Sadly that level of passion gets diluted by the glory seekers when a club rises. To regain that passion in the higher leagues will only be accomplished by staying there for say a decade or so. Then thats no quarantee, I mean look at Bolton and Blackburn.

I hope that we will regain it if we stay up and stay for a while. I witnessed such passion when we were nearly there in the 70s and drew Leeds in the cup. No other club that has drawn a big club while playing in a lower league can match what we did that day. Its there for us to do it but under this present regime I can't see it happening.

It's why many leave, they blame the ground, the shirts, the prices, but the edge was another little part of being a City fan.....

You will never understand unless you were there, not fighting, just the feeling in the air, no matter where we were, it would be hard to accurately describe, but I know what he means......

Re: I miss the edge at our club!

We have been diluted with glory hunters and football fans not City fans.

I believe if we were a mid table club in the premier doing well for many years, a lot of the football fans would become City fans.

problem is that football fans want success and that is why they glory hunt and to be fair they want to see decent football, which we are not producing at the moment.

plus the same old story of like minded not by like minded, some old school leaving, the stadium dont carry sound, singers not near away fans so you can banter and the red in somes opinions.

The late 80s early 90s were amazing to me, the passion was our best player

Too much to lose in the top flight, if we go down it will be back to normal and you will get your 'edge' back. Not like Ninian park but it'll never be like that again.

Ninian park was a library 99% of the time. When it was a big game the atmos was fantastic

Couldn`t agree more matey
Im afraid its Modern Premier family football IN 2014 and ITS getting worse, will be having tickle time next from the stewards at half time or giving out blankets and hot water bottles next season.

Personally I`ve had enough and before anyone says you aint a real Cardiff Fan not loyal blah blah "go f**k yourself"

Lack of atmosphere - "No edge" :)
Stupid Police/Court sentences - Turned Cardiff fans into total pussies and all teams know it - take the piss lovey dovey f*cking joke
Stewarding at Tinkle time stadium - can t do this cant do that for fucks sake its a footabll game
The bloody Red - unfuckingbelievable - Once proud - we are now a joke to other fans
The bloody Badge - unfuckingbelievable -
Dictator Tan - Stadium looks great, invested the money yet - "why be a total c**t and mess it all up*

what a shite season its been don`t care if we stay up or go down
enoughs enough

Looking forward to a few games is Euorpe next year Holland, Germany, Poland.

Although I'm only young compared to most of you old bunch, but I know what you mean. When I went to my first game (Birmingham home, 2006) you could feel this "edge". The pure passion was enough to get me hooked. Shame that he ground these days is full of people just there for the football, to me it's more about what happens in the stands. What goes on on the pitch is low down on my priorities when I'm there.

Re: " I miss the edge at our club! "

First post so here goes!

The edge went as soon as we moved across the road. I used to love the atmosphere walking down from Canton, stopping off at the bookies next to the Ninian pub for a quick bet on the result and first goal scorer before walking the final leg to the ground. When you got into the grange end you were surrounded by familiar faces and would all acknowledge each other even though you didn't know most of their names. When City scored the place went mental (even when there were hardly any fans in the ground) and we would all be jumping about like kangaroos on acid! I can't get to games very often these days due to family commitments but when I have been to the new stadium I've always come away feeling a bit disappointed.

At NP you had fans with a true passion for the club all grouped en masse in certain areas of the ground that sang and chanted their heart out to give their team an advantage by creating an intimidating atmosphere (Leeds FA cup game is a prime example) In the new ground the majority of those fans are still there but mixed in with the new breed fan in equal measure who has no idea about our history and almost seems embarrassed to stand up and sing/chant for the team - This may change in time but I doubt it.

Yes NP was falling down, yes it stank of piss and fried onions, yes it was uncomfortable but that is what brought all the fans at that time together to create something very special and something I will always miss (the atmosphere and not the smell of piss and onions) Unless you experienced it you will never understand how good it felt to be part of that special tribe.

Basically you hate the fact you can no longer fight? Lol times move on, those days are long gone.

I think Family club of the year is a good thing but the club have gone soft, football has gone soft.

Cant chant certain things anymore incase someones feelings get hurt, clapping former players when they score? Even fans clapping our 19.27 protests, they should be ripping into us like stoke did. Our away section having the opposing teams tops on etc its all very nicey nice but why?

Completely agree with you mate 100%, it was like being part of a tribe. Waking up on a Saturday I'd instantly get a buzz it just had that feeling, some games alone we used to win through intimidation and sheer passion, but to be honest it wasn't about winning it was about belonging, I think that's what got me hooked. f**k do I miss those days. :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

You can smell when you have rattled sides, and I loves it. Leeds in '02 had it all for me. Bowyer and woodgate had it all game, and were shot. Jeers for poor shots get worse, keepers gets dodgier, tackles get desperate, ref follows crowd decisions more.

Intimidating atmosphere against Man City from team announcement to final whistle. Their players couldn't get up for a fight, you could see their shoulders dropping when we equalised and they knew the crowd was going to be on their backs even worse. Pulled our players up, and forced them to give everything. Result we won. Love in against Hull, before and during the game, and their players must have thought they had a home game. Result we got slammed. Teams come to us to nick our points and embarrass us, and no matter who they are when they are on the pitch they can have it! Stoke fans did us a favour by trying to wind us up IMO, as it got the atmosphere back. Chelsea next home game needs to be a cauldron and we will have a chance.
