It's because all the so called genuine fans are really there to get pissed with their mates rather than give TOTAL support to the team.
I observe it every week and it never ceases to amaze me.

At first it's just a trickle.
By 40 minutes in it's a constant stream of people, flowing down all the aisles.
By the time the half time whistle blows, large expanses of blue seats can be seen.
So, what is the huge attraction of heading to the concourse whilst the game is still going on.
Is it the refreshing, reasonably priced beer? Is it the delicious, freshly cooked and reasonably priced food? Is it the shared experience of queueing 5 deep at the urinals?
Am I missing something going on in the concourse at half time which makes so many people leave their seats whilst the match is still going on to race down there?

If you're the thirsty type, have a few beers in some of the many local pubs before the game and if you're the hungry type, buy some food in some of the many pubs, cafes or takeaways nearby.
You'll probably find that your food and drink will be much cheaper and taste a lot better.
If you're REALLY thirsty, make plans to go to another of the many local pubs as soon as the match has finished - as far as I am aware, none of them are closed at 5pm.
And whilst you're actually in the stadium, why not try spending your time actually supporting the team instead of queueing for piss poor beer and rancid burgers. This will have two benefits - the team will benefit from your cheering and shouting and even better it will teach Compass (or whoever does the catering now) that their overpriced piss poor food and beer is not acceptable.

Yes I've got a few thanks for asking.
They're all more interested in watching the game than drinking or eating though!
