' 14 YEARS THE LAST TIME WE GOT RELEGATED '

Sun Apr 06, 2014 12:00 am

2000 thats the year my son was born ..... i was telling him today "for gods sake Dan we`ve been relegated loads of times" .... then i remembered we havent been relegated for 14 years .... even for us older fans this feels like a new hurt because we`d forgotten how this felt .... but from what i remember once the new season starts we`d have already dusted ourselves down and ready for the season ahead ... so dont be downhearted we are still a big club and we`ll be back in that premier league and playing in blue next time :bluescarf:

Its this "we are a big club" nonsense that got you in this mess in the first place. It allows anyone wanting to come into the club to do what they want with it - as long as they pander to the desire of the fans to be a big club.

You havent won anything if note for nearly 100 years - You have been in the top flight once, yes once, in over half a century which looks to have lasted a solitary season where indeed it also looks like you may finish rock bottom after woeful display after woeful display.

You are not a big club. Its brutal but everyine knows deep down its true.

You need to get rid of this hammam we are massive mentality, get rid of the promotion at all costs mentality, get rid of the kudos more important than the club mentality and start again. You are a mess rght now, dont carry it on.

i disagree roath ... we have the potential to be an huge club once these silly welsh man utd and liverpool fans start getting behind cardiff ... its happening right now but it will take time ..... i went to catalonia last year and i never saw one spanish football shirt or flag but hundreds of red and yellow catalonian flags and barca shirts ... it will take time but it can happen as we can all see by the way everyone goes crazy these days of the welsh rugby team

It will never happen Aherne, its a pipe dream. Always has been.

You really need to concentrate on what you are not what you could be in an ideal world - you are not a big club and you really need to stop dreaming and collectively as a fanbase backing the handicapping of the club to chase this nonsense fantasy.

The Welsh rugby team is a welsh tradition and not a new craze. Supporting Cardiff or Swansea is not a Welsh tradition and never will be.

Exactly. Thats my point.

We have always been a rugby nation when it comes to sport (in terms of tuning out internationally anyway). If you expect 70,000 wanting to come and watch cardiff week in week out then you are living in fantasy world.

You have a harcore following of about 5,000 which will be shown if you ever get relegated to league 2, the rest will just be along for the ride. Thats not a big club.

No but they would get a damn site more than 4,000.

If man utd faced relegation to league 2 they would still be getting 35,000 gates plus.

You not being a big club has nothing to do with us. You aren't a big club simply because you are not.

We arent either but our fanbase doesnt pretend to be.

As for the comparison, if you asked everybody in the world who they have heard of most Swansea or Cardiff then Swansea would win hands down. But like I said, we know we arent a big club and are comfortable with that. It doesnt matter really does it.

Potential is there without a doubt but it has to be a step at a time & properly. There's big clubs historically in the divisions below and mismanagement has crucified them. Cardiff City are in that bracket and VT takes a big share of the blame, along with those that took red and promotion up the arse from him.

No i just have the average.

http://www.european-football-statistics ... b/carc.htm

In the 80's, 90's and early 00's the club barely made it past 5,000.

The sharp incline came inline with the promotions amd stadium switch, but when the dust settles and relegations happen you will be left with the same sort of fanbase. Same with us.

Same with any club that gains promotions or plays football at a highher level than previous.

Next season if we revisit it, it will show the club shrinking, get relegated again or fail to get promoted and it will shrink again etc etc.

Thats football.

Some good crowds for basement football there. Some clubs would dream of getting 6000 through the gates regularly
