The poll of all polls - Malky Vs Dave Moans

Thu Mar 27, 2014 7:41 pm

A lot of discussion recently regarding former managers and comparing Malky to DJ. Not seen a poll on here about this but they were both very popular and very unpopular in equal measures with the fanbase. Who did you feel did the better job? Malky/Milky or Dave Jones/Dave Moans.

This is not a popularity competition so please do not vote on who you liked more just on who you felt did the better job, DJ was a wanker but a far better manager and performed miracles at this club. Malky was a top bloke but out of his depth and had the
huge backing of a billionaire owner.

That is my opinion of course, what's yours?

Looks like Jones is the more popular among fans on this board, so far.

That is absolute bollocks Nukes and you know it.

A poll was set up and the vast majority wanted the blue back.

Voted Malky as I preferred him, but Jones deserves nothing but praise for his time at this club. He dragged this club I to places it had no real place being, looking at the budgets he spent & what he achieved, was incredible.

The spine of the promotion winning side last season were all DJ signings too.

Will always be fondly remembered by me.

Dave Jones was in charge when we were blue.

Malky when we were red.

Says it all to me.

Jones signed some good players, would of been interesting if he had the money mm had.

What's that got to do with poll and don't agree with you

Malky got the job done and was likeable but his football was shit to watch. Jones always seem to fail at the last hurdle but he did a very good job with us and was the reason we were able to transition from a promoted league one club to a promotion chasing team for many seasons. However, he was mostly miserable and didn't have the best relationships with the fans but the football he played was always entertaining.

I'm grateful for what both of them did for this club at the end of the day but not really bothered about them as their not our manager any more

Both managers did well, but I'd choose Malky over Jones any day.

I appreciate how far Jones took us on a limited budget, but Malky was left with only 10 senior players and had to assemble his own squad during his first season, also on a limited budget. Jones and Malky got similar results, both achieving playoff places and cup runs. However, I think Malky brought in players with a better character and made us tougher to beat, particularly at home. Although Malky had the backing Jones never had last season, I don't think Jones would have won the league title by 8 points if he had an identical budget to Malky. It's a tough vote, but Malky just gets the edge for me.

even Malky and Moody ,have both said having almost a blank canvass wasnt such a bad thing. there was hardly any dead wood in there either, 2 good keepers, super kev, hudson, whitts, blake {who was in the Wales side },Gerrard {who was Hulls player of the year }Jones had to constantly sell his best players, and work in a backdrop of debt, court cases, transfer embargos and protests..Jones for me,by a mile.

Was Milky edited out of the thread title or am I imagining that? Weird if so seen as Moans is still there.

But I go with Jones. MM was easier to like but that isn't enough. He was a good manager no doubt - one of our best ever. But Jones is ahead of him solely based on what he had to work under for 6 or so years. He dragged us nowhere to one of the best Championship sides, just a shame he could never get the job done.

what job didnt he get done though.?
we became a serious club...3 Wembley visits..and for the previous 30 years id have been happy with an auto windscreens final..would MM even have considered coming here had it not been for the clubs profile being raised so much during the Jones years?.because prior to DJ ,how much of a better prospect did we look than Watford.
strange thing is,he gets called moans, mostly by the biggest moaners at our club.

Getting promoted obviously. Of course him getting us where he did prior to Malky coming in is considered a good enough job if you look at the things he dealt with but the squad was talented and we flirted with the automatic spots and look like possibly doing it before we just hit a slump and then messed it up in the Play-offs.

the squad was talented because he had an eye for talent...mostly under achievers he picked up on the cheap because we didnt have real money.......of course this being Cardiff, most couldnt work that out..
and yes MILKY has been edited out ......moans has not...........people should have respect.? or even people should have double standards

Jones, for the reasons already given, he took us from relegation candidates to promotion chasers and Wembley visitors year on year under most difficult circumstances.

I dont buy this bollocks about 10 senior players, if it was in the middle of the season fair enough, but 10 senior players at the start of pre-season, some of whom are the best in the division, is great for a manager, you dont have to get rid of the dead wood, plus a chequebook to spend on players you want. Maybe not as much as the promotion year but Kenny Miller was brought in on 25k a week, Cowie, Gunnarson, Taylor.etc. they all come for the money we were offering.

That said, in Malkys defence, I do feel if Jones had a little bit more Malky about him with regards player discipline he could very well have crossed the line. However, theres no doubt in my mind if Jones had been given the riches Malky had in our promotion year we would have done it, and done it in style.

On a side note I think Ole is going to surpass them both if hes given chance to finish the job.

The fact you state malky is just edging it over Dave jones doesn't say much for malky, as jones is no better than a decent championship manager. I still think jones is a better manager than malky when you o by Botha past achievements.

not sure about the discipline bit, jones had to forfeit certain things...........you dont get a jay that passes the dosier test for 300k if you know what i mean.....but i did feel we were crying out for a medel type to just sit in front of back 4

People go on about malky having 10 players but they were decent players if I remember correctly who had made the playoffs the previous season.

When dj took over he couldn't fill a bench on our tour of Scotland and the previous years team were in a relegation fight.

well when Mackay took over, he did to have enough players to get a starting XI together. The previous team should never have been in the dog fight it was in either, which is why Lennie was sacked.

The needless editing of posts is ridiculous. If the OP said Milky it should be left as that. At worst both milky and moans should have been edited but even that isnt acceptable.

Jonesy had to build a new team every season and had his best players continually sold.
