Agree, especially at left back which he is not, he is the better of two evils tho.

Not overrated, just learning the basics of the role he plays in, he's put in some good challenges, only thing he needs to work on is his judgement and positioning, he thrives in the modern day wing back role

totally agree with the post about him playing in a position which isnt natural. hes a left winger not a full back, so everything he was taught in the youth as a winger, is now being told forget all that and learn all the things a full back should be.....i think at a crucial time like this in the season, we need experience there, and loan him out. if we keep losing, his confidence could take a dramatic hit,

I thought Bale was a good left back.

Absolutely.

I wasn't shocked when he made Sky's flop team or whatever it was a few weeks back. He has been poor defensively this season. If we bought him instead he wouldn't be hyped up as much as he is. The Bale comparisons are laughable.

Who moved him to LB? It was a shocking decision. Push him further up and I think we'll see a better player.

I think he's got great promise, makes some really good runs and is very comfortable on the ball.

Not our best player, not our worst player, but amazing performances from him given his age and the pressure we have on us.

I hope he goes on to do great things, and preferably with us

I may pop a tenner on Declan John playing for Barcelona within the next 5 years

I think he is growing game by game, he has great athleticism and he travels really well with the ball. His decision making when he's on the ball let's him down on occasions but that will get better and better with experience, his defending will also come along with experience, you have to remember his last two away games he's been up against Mirallas and Lennon and has dealt with them pretty well. Here's hoping he keeps developing, the bonus he's a local lad is great too.

Overrated ? He is still a youngster playing against world pros , he is doing great .

Taylor would have been mullered by these wingers......His lack of pace has been badly exposed this season.

my point..as you well know...was backing up the point that left back might not be Declan best position......Bale had a flying start for Spurs as you say scoring, BUT did he struggle?.....was there a point where Spurs considered selling him because with him at left back they couldnt win?..he certainly was not sold for a world record as a left back..was he jellybean........

He suffered some injuries and couldnt get back in at left back, talk of him going out on loan but Redknapp said he was never going to sell him.

Before the injuries he had shown enough qualitites for Southampton, Wales and Spurs to show he had far, far, more ability than Declan has.

Theres only one 18 year old kid who potentially has the ability to be a world class player like Bale and thats Luke Shaw at Southampton.

I want Declan to do well, seeing as hes from the same part of town as me, but these comparisons with Bale are ludicrous.

As for selling him because they couldnt win when he played, thats just loopy. Coincidence, nothing more, unless you are saying he was at fault only and not the other 10 players????
