Trying not to be racist but non UK taxi drivers in Cardiff are f*cking abysmal!!! For the second week on the bounce deliberately went a long way to hit traffic jams. Im sure that they think a valleys accent means that I don't know the roads around Cardiff FFS!!!

For the second week now I kicked off with them. However tonight really took the piss whilst leaving Central station he didnt turn left onto Tudor Road he went up Westgate Street and hit all the traffic. Made him do a U-Turn and ended up paying him 50% of the fare by walking off the prick

The one last week said that because he was a taxi driver he knew the roads better then me. Yet when I told him that I was on the taxis for 12 months and know all the tricks he soon stopped spouting his nonsense

Take as much details as possible from the driver and vehicle etc.
Full details of journey and deliberate misdemeanours by the driver.
Report him/them to the local Traffic Comissioner.

The one last week Took me all the way down Claire Road to deliberately hit the traffic on Penarth Road so I went 'why didnt you go right at the Neville pub ?' and his response was because its longer but he cant have done much maths while at school because my way was one set of traffic lights yet his was four sets of traffic lights!!! Once again 50% of the fare and walked off!!!

I had lift from Asian taxi driver from Central to ninian pub week before last. He was a cracking bloke, chatty and took me correct way. Gave him a fiver tip and you'd have thought id given him the world.

Don't generalise as there's good and bad in everyone

50% of the fare at that point or 50% of the whole fare had you completed the whole journey?

Makes a difference, as not paying the amount due for the whole journey actually undertaken (or completed) means you have just admitted to a criminal act :o

Adam, be careful out there. You're in danger of gaining a 'reputation' and you wouldn't want that, would you?? ;) :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6:

Mind you, as much as I think it's wrong for taxi drivers to take advantage of non-Cardiffians like that, I think you are lucky you didn't have one or two taxi drivers I know, if you think you'll get away with that too often ;)

Unscrupulous people are everywhere these days, as you know only too well, and people need to be wary at all times. a very sad sign of the times, I'm afraid

Re: Non UK Cardiff Taxi Drivers

There has been an increase in complaints across the UK against non UK taxi drivers. This was because of the last government allowing Local Authorities ways of making money instead of funds from Central Government, with new licenses being one of them. The average cost of plating fees and licenses is £500 to a LA and when the uptake wasn't fast enough Labour allowed CRB checks to be undertaken overseas for those who hadn't lived the previously required 10 years and interpreters for the Knowledge tests for those who can't speak English. The interpreters were usually a taxi driver friend of the person taking the test who would obviously know the correct answer. The result was a lot of new drivers who couldn't speak or understand English well enough and who didn't know the routes. After lots of complaints a BTEC in taxi driving was introduced for all new drivers but not the ones who had recently passed who were the problem.
The increase in new licenses roughly doubled the number of taxis which results in takings dropping to half, plus there was also the smoking ban closing 7 pubs a day in the UK and the credit crunch on top ( in Cardiff the number of Hackney Carriages rose from 480 to 955, with the former mainly 4 seats and the latter mainly 7 seats. Furthermore, the increase only stopped because of Police objections due to the problems of lack of rank space in the city centre - apart from the station permit rank there is only space for around 30 taxis, yet there are 955). The massive increase also resulted in drivers cherry picking fares as out of town fares are more lucrative. This could be solved by the LA increasing the initial cost of a fare by £1 so that drivers would earn £4 - 5 ph more on local fares when busy and would stop them cherry picking and ripping off customers. Some of the drivers who rent 7 seat Eurocabs pay £280 per week rent plus £120 per week fuel and are working 80 + hours per week ( a tachoghraph wouldn't work as more than half the time would be classed as rest). I certainly don't condone the actions of some of these drivers, but most of the problems stem from Labours deregulation and not the right fare structure from the LA ( I think Cardiff is the only LA in S. Wales that doesn't have 3 tariffs, so that after midnight there is only £1 extra, whereas some charge extra for every mile and some charge an extra %).
If you think you are ripped off then ask for a receipt and if the driver will not give one take his photo and photo the license plate and report the details to the LA's licensing department. Also, if you dispute the amount it is not a criminal offence as long as you can prove that you are able to pay the full amount. If you get into a taxi with no money and dispute the fare it is a criminal offence, whereas if you have enough to pay and think you are being charged too much and only pay what the fare should be, then it is a civil offence. I hope this clears things up for you. As regarding booking a taxi, don't book all the 3's as they have a higher meter rate, the only firm with the LA's rate is Capital - 02920 777777.

I've worked for both companies and dragon (333 333) & Capitol (777 777) have the same rate which is the LA rate... I believe premier (555 555) is more expensive.

Since plenty of fans catch taxis to and from the matches and coach pick-up points then it is very relevant to the football forum.

Report the shit to the council via their licensing email address, make a note of their license number.

The Council and the police want the rubbish off the streets as well.

The amount of foreigners driving cabs in this city is terrible, it's as much as 95% surely. The problem I have with that is that they are not Cardiffians who have a good local knowledge, tourists come here for the culture and to explore the city, the first person they see straight off the train/plane is Mohammed from Pakistan whom can barely speak the lingo. Not a great advert for the city.
