Cardiff City fans to march for “heritage and tradition”

An array of Cardiff City fans’ groups and forums have joined forces to march for their “heritage and tradition” before the club’s home game against Liverpool on Saturday 22nd March.

The peaceful protest is backed by Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust, Cardiff City Supporters’ Club, Cardiff City Forum, Cardiff City Online, and Bluebirds Unite.

It’s an opportunity for fans to show they do not support the rebrand of the club's colours and want a return to the traditional blue kit and Bluebird badge.

Organisers are encouraging fans to wear blue scarfs and blue tops to show their feelings rather than banners. The march will also be an alcohol free zone and no abuse of any club officials or the owner will be tolerated.

Fans say this will be an opportunity “to create something special and show the footballing world that Cardiff City fans are a positive and passionate credit to their club”.

The groups involved say that “colours run deep… blue is not just a colour, it's a huge part of our heritage, tradition and soul”.

All other supporters’ groups and individuals are encouraged to get involved and attend.

Proposed itinerary (subject to police approval):

1pm-2pm: Meet outside the Napier pub (Canton)
2pm: March from the Napier down Sloper Road through main entrance to ground
2.20pm-2.35pm: Pro-blue songs outside main reception area
2.35pm: Move inside ground with sea of blue scarfs for Men of Harlech
19m27s into the game: Sea of blue scarfs/flags/pro-blue songs

I would love to go on this march I really would, I would love to see us back in blue and am strongly opposed to the red and the rebrand.

I happily joined the protest march against the Ridsdale regime and would love to join this march but I won't.

The reason is that I just cannot see any way that this protest march will not turn into an anti-Tan march. Unfortunately we have a number of fans who will see this as a perfect opportunity to start chanting anti-Tan songs and verbally attacking him personally. I appreciate that in the statements from the organisers it has been made clear that such matters will not be tolerated but who is going to police that?

What happens if a large group on the march start up with the "Vincent Tan you're a wanker" chant? Are the organisers going to make them stop?

And you can bet that when the media report the march it will be depicted as a march against Tan rather than a march for a return to blue particularlyif there are any incidents which they can pick up on.

I applaud the initiative. I back the purpose of the march 100%. But I feel it is naive to think that there won't be anti-Tan chanting and singing and although I am far from Vincent Tan's greatest fan I want no part of that.

I hope I am wrong and if I am I will be more than happy to eat a large slice of humble pie.

Good luck to all who intend attending the march for the right reasons.

Imagine the damage to his business credentials.
Imagine the damage to his ego.
Imagine how much money he would lose.

The man wouldn't be able just to walk away.

If we dont keep these protests going, then new fans will think we are Red, many fans will give up hope and our BLUE wont be so prominent with our fans. So by doing these protests etc any new owner will hopefully change us back to get us on his side

Could he be selling the first team, take his money and leave cardiff with the Youth
team and no money?
Dont think chanting Tan out is the smartest. Mr Tan is a winner, have been his Hole businesslife.
A little respect for his investment should be smart. I have done business in Malaysia in the 80 and 90ths,
And he will not leave the club loosing money, which is his main goal. He feels the lucky on, that the red.
Malaysia is a light muslim country, but open to woman workers in offices, also in leader rolla.
Alcohol they dont drink, he Get not much respect for drunken people chanting him, Thats for sure
This Could backfire to the club. At least he is creative and may act in ways we dont understand yet.

What would YOU or any fan do if you were Tan and continued getting abused more and more?

1 ) Plough more and more money into the club

2 ) Try to sell without (much of) a loss ? Who would buy our club with a huge debt or an innate value of around £100 million, where the fans got rid of Tan through a witch hunt ? Our reputation is shot, not just because of Tan, but of our reactions.

3 ) Convert debt to equity ? Would you ? Why on earth would he do this when the unthinking minority would still want to hound him out when he has invested more in the last two years, than the previous owners had done in the previous 50 years !!!

4 ) IF he is such an evil, vindictive dictator that some suggest, then surely he would want to get his own back on the very fans who have gone back on the deal of securing a financial future for the change of colour.

IF he is as bad as many think, then we could be signing our club's death warrant !!

Our only chance is for us to survive the drop and remain in PL, as IF we get relegated no potential new owner will be interested and Tan could easily see out the next four years parachute payments, totally screwing the club (and especially us fans) by selling every player, using trainees paying them peanuts.

His new aim could be to get relegated each of the following four seasons and then liquidate us when we are in Conference South.

That would finish us, the club would effectively be dead.

For those who thinks he would care about his reputation, once we are out of the PL limelight, no one apart from City fans and local media would be interested.

Tan has got so many business interests, that City would become a back seat operation with the aim of asset stripping to the extreme and aiming to get revenge for our actions

This is the second time you have mentioned alcohol and drunks in regards to people singing in different posts. Firstly It is wrong to tag us all with this stereotype. I don't have to have a drink to sing what I believe in I am welsh after all. I don't have to have to have a drink to sing about what I believe in. I sung "well always be blue" the last four games without a single bit of alcohol slipping through my lips. If you have witnessed this first hand or are relying on your mates in wales for your information then all i can say is this doesn't represent everyone and the way you are describing us as a drunken baying militia is way off the mark. Hopefully!

Again some are to scared of upsetting Tan. In laymans terms its the glory not the identity. The entire fabric of CCFC is at stake. When your so called glory years are over what will you have left ?

Thats a bit unfair. Many I know arent bothered about glory, just worried about the existence of the club.

he is in his 60s and has taken a sideways step from business, yes he would take a knock to his ego, but he is having that now..besides he lives thousands of miles away, and they love him there,WE would be blamed by the asian press not him.
as for money....some assume he would not be willing to take the hit....but the evidence is { pledging half his total wealth to charity } Cardiff City is more important as a project than for a financial killing.
he is bloody minded, we have all seen this in him..........the question is..if he is angered enough, how far will he go in ruining the club?
its all well and good getting angry and abusive and screaming you want him out at all costs......dont then expect him to be meek, mild and reasonable..........

Its all about respect in their culture, and loss of that respect is immense.

i try to be fair...i wear blue every game have done since the rebrand, but didnt before that..........i will never accept the red in my heart although like everyone i have to accept the team wear it.....red one day will be blue again, but in the mean time we have tan,and for all his faults he really does want us to do well.....if thats a financial thing or an ego thing i dont know or care...but in my lifetime we havent been so high in the league ,had such big crowds, or had such a big profile.
i looked earlier.....13th biggest attendances,on the back of being shit for 30 years and not winning anything for nearly 90 years.....this club can be something..........and people look up to pompey ?????????.........i believe tan can take us further and sell something thats really special......or be pushed into ruining it forever.........i honestly think he is capable of both

A plea to all Blue City fans,

The march is intended to be positive, peaceful and a good natured show of Blue pride, whether you're going on the march or not is of cause your choice. However, even if you are not marching, please do bring your Blue scarf and be a part of the Sea of Blue inside the stadium at 19mins 27 secs. A sea of blue scarves inside the stadium will send out a crystal clear message to the world that most fans want to stay blue. It's not anti Tan, its just pro traditional Cardiff City.

Thanks for your support
