Dispatches anti gay chants | Cardiff gay supporters

Fri Mar 07, 2014 8:50 am

Hi (first post :ayatollah: )

After watching the dispatches programme the other night on channel 4, I thought it may be a good time to tell the world about our group of men, who are both passionately gay and Cardiff City fans.

Gay men are not all effeminate queens, and contrary to many hackneyed old beliefs , some of us also like sport.

There is a group of us, we meet in a gay pub before the match for a few pints, go to the football together, then afterwards we go back to the pub for some getting to know each other time, thats when anything can happen!

Anyone can get involved (as long as you are gay) there are about 27 of us at the moment.

Thanks for reading.

surely the problem in the game for players and for supporters is groups such as this segregating themselves from othe fans because of their sexual preference. You say anyone can be a part of your group as long as you're gay. How would you react if you couldn't be part of a group because you were straight? If you want opinions and thoughts to change then groups like this are not the way forward. :ayatollah:

Hi, I very much agree with your post, and ultimately I think its the way to go, but unfortunately 9as shown on TV the other night) there is still a level of prejudice towards gays in football, that makes integration an ambition for the future

I'm for inclusion and against discrimination but why in a post saying that gays not all 'effeminate queens' do you put a love heart as the logo? Surely that defeats the object of your post and furthers the stereotypes rather than erase them?

What people prefer in the sex department M/F has little to do with Football or any other sport.
People are Gay. People are Straight. Some people like both.
Consenting adults can do as they choose.
If a fan wants to come out of the closet then good on him. His/Her friends can either accept it or reject it.

Personally I have a few pals male and female that are openly gay, And a few who still try to hide it.
They can come out in their own time. Just hope they realise that I am their friend because of who they are and not what they are.

with regards to the inclusive argument, it is difficult because we are a dual interest group.

think of it like a group of train spotters who love Indian food, they would go for a curry together and discuss the numbers on the front of a train.

with us, we are gays who love cardiff city, but we are also flirting with each other at the same time. This would be difficult to share with some hetros (although not all as some are bi)

I couldn't give a monkeys if you are gay, just get on with your lives  .

You'd probably have a better time if you mixed with straight people aswell.

It sounds like you discriminate against straight people, sooooooo, fack off. :ayatollah:

The members at Gay Cardiff have a mixed and diverse opinion, some would never be seen in red, whilst others don't care if they play in shit brown, as long as they start winning and save us from what is looking like a relegation shoo-in :(

What we wish to achieve is the normalisation of gay men enjoying football and being football supporters.

One ultimate goal is to all sit in the same section of the stadia , and even start our own chants "who are we? gay cardiff!" :notworthy:

What a contradiction.

You want to integrate and be accepted as a normal football supporter but then want your own section.

F*ck off

Ridiculous idea, football fans should have no other agenda other than wanting the team to win. Obviously a wind-up

This is an example of the biggotry we are trying to combat, its so alien to you that a group of gay men could enjoy football together, that you can only assume it must be a "wind up" :|

The problem is ignorance, you dont have issues with family stands, so why have an issue with a gay area? The families sit together because they dont want to hear you all swearing, and we want to sit together because of hetro male biggotry

So what, shall we have a black only section, an asian section, people with ginger hair section, a bald section, a fat section, a midget section?

Get a grip you elitist prat.

I've got an ingrowing toe-nail, I am starting my own group who will meet at the pediatrists, we want to sit together cos our feet stink. We're sick of two-left feet name-calling of players who miss open goals (assumptions they have bad toe-hygiene) & biggotry at football matches :laughing6:

Have you ever considered that many minority people love football, but dont go because they are scared of aggressive white hetro men? surely we should do everything we can to encourage a broad church, both in terms of diverse colour and sexuality

Many minority people do go to the football and dont place such demands as having their own section.

In effect, white hetro men have their own stand (95% of the stadia) , so do families, but you dont want us gays to have a small section, why are you so ignorant? :old:
