With that being said the thing that really gets to me is when people describe him as a "DICTATOR" it really annoys me. It completely trivialises the unspeakable horrors that occured under countless dictators for the last 100-150 years and still happen to this day. Now i do understand where this mantle has come from but i still think its quite a stretch to compare him to people often responsible for the deaths of millions.
Call Tan what you like, call him crazy, call him a terrible owner, call im a terrible business man; but every time you go to call him a dictator just remember: You are not risking your life for your political/religious/cultural belifes, you are not hiding your family across boarders in fear of your life, you ARE a fan in a football stadium who doesnt like the billionaire who owns it. no need for that mate. just try not to intentionally cheapen their memory any further and that would be just wonderful
but then trying to get that through to someone who has a picture of tan as the devil as their avatar may be trying work

I've already tried to divert these kind of conversations to other websites. You sound genuine and not a wind-up merchant, so I ask you is your post suitable for a football forum. It clearly is'nt...Dictatorship is just another form of governance, we haven't found a system that allows eutopia for its peoples. Clearly these conversations have nothing to do with football. Dictatorship just gets rid of a democratic system, i.e, 1 person who makes decisions, i.e, Vincent Tan

The actual meaning of the word 'Dictator' is 'A dictator is a ruler who does not rule through democratic means' which with the colour and badge change sums Tan up nicely![]()

but it is relevant to football. for as long as we've had an owner it has been one person or a board making decisions, we have never been a demorcracy, football clubs were never meant to be a democracy. If tan was making decisions everyone liked then no one would call him a dictator. I just think that if you're going to attack tan (which you should..it's completeley justified) then at least attack what he's done wrong and not buy in to this hype that he is some sort of super villain as it cheapens any legitimate argument against him. If you make a valid critisism of Tan then follow it up by using buzzwords like dictator then it takes a whole lot of weight out of your argument because it makes you look like you're swept away by hype and panic.

rebranding of a club to red, the fanbase should have its say and a ballot on the issue, like a modern democracy does. Tan doesn't care about his customers or for this comparison 'citiizens' so therefore is open to being branded a Dictator![]()
I would say other clubs have a much better system or 'governance.' I grant you that most clubs are dictitorial & bordering on Dictaorships too in the U.K. In Europe & beyond this is not the case, i.e, Presidencies at Spanish clubs were the President is voted for like a democracy. Fans balloted on important changes.

i love the spanish model and wish we copied it (although it opens itself up to more corruption)
but my question is why are we, as customers, being likened to citizens in the first place? when it is simply a business. i know to customers like us it feels like more but we are not being oppressed, just not listened to by someone who has an expetancy, but not a legal obligation to listen to us

To poke fun at the simularities between a Dictator & a buisnessman who shares these tendancies to rule with an iron fist. The first comment on your thread you should of taken on-board, i.e, don't take life so seriously
