' CARDIFF CITY '

14/02/14

Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to make wholesale changes to his team for tomorrow’s FA Cup fifth round clash with Wigan.

As many as nine players who started Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa could be rested, with only goalkeeper David Marshall and front-man Fraizer Campbell keeping their places.

Solskjaer looks likely to pick an entire new-look back four, with Kevin McNaughton, Mark Hudson, Juan Cala and Fabio coming into the side against Championship WIgan.

Peter Whittingham and Kim Bo-Kyung, unceremoniously axed from the match-day squad against Villa after their limp displays in the south Wales derby, could be handed an opportunity to reprieve themselves.

Norwegian duo Magnus Eikrem and Mats Daehli are also pushing for starting spots, as well as the more-established City duo of Aaron Gunnarsson and Don Cowie.

A third Norwegian, Jo Inge Berget, could also be picked for his Bluebirds debut as strike partner to Campbell.

13/02/14.

The Bluebirds manager confirmed after the Villa draw he will mix things up in terms of team selection for this Saturday’s FA Cup fifth round tie at home against Championship club Wigan Athletic (3pm).

Aron Gunnarsson, who missed the Villa clash through illness, is on course to be fit, while left-back Andrew Taylor is back to fitness after an ankle operation and has been in full training. Taylor looks certain to face Wigan.

Kevin McNaughton, Tommy Smith, Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Don Cowie, Mats Moller Daehli and Jo Inge Berget are among other players who could be given the nod by Solskjaer.

“We will mix it up,” he says. “There are players who did not play against Villa who will be involved in the FA Cup tie.

Cala will surely make his City debut in this Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Wigan Athletic at home, probably alongside Mark Hudson if the club captain is fit after a hamstring problem, but Solskjaer will have already pencilled in Turner and Caulker for the big Premier League match against Hull City at Cardiff City Stadium a week later.

12/02/13.

Ole Solskjaer is ready to rotate his squad again.

Since Solskjaer became manager in early January he has already used 18 different players and brought 7 new players in, in the January transfer market.

Jordon Mutch will be missing through a hamstring injury.

Craig Bellamy will be serving his 2nd match of his 3 match ban.

Andrew Taylor is fit and ready to play on Saturday.

' WIGAN ATHLETIC '

Nicky Maynard is not allowed to play against his own club Cardiff City due to FA Cup rules.

The 27-year-old will be unable to face his parent club when Wigan continue their defence of the FA Cup at Cardiff in a fifth-round tie on Saturday.
"I didn't know that, but FA Cup rules are clear," Rosler told BBC Radio Manchester. "Even if we'd have had permission, he's not allowed to face his own team in the FA Cup.
"Never mind - Nicky will be ready for Tuesday [against Barnsley at the DW Stadium] which is a very important game for us as well."

Possible City side:-
Image
I think we'll play Cala & Caulker together to give them a chance to get to know each other when playing. I also thing we'll play Zaha & Fabio to get their match fitness up.

Possible Wigan side:-
Image
I don't think Maynard is able to play (it's our choice if he can I believe).

Last 5 meetings:-
26 Apr 2003----Cardiff City 0-0 Wigan Athletic----League Division 2
30 Sep 2003----Cardiff City 0-0 Wigan Athletic----League Division 1
13 Apr 2004----Wigan Athletic 3-0 Cardiff City----League Division 1
30 Aug 2004----Wigan Athletic 2-1 Cardiff City----League Championship
09 Apr 2005----Cardiff City 0-2 Wigan Athletic----League Championship

Fact:-
Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic have never met in the FA Cup.

Prediction:-
Cardiff City 3-0 Wigan Athletic (Mats Daehli, Fraizer Campbell x2)

Just looked on the Wigan forum ( surprised they have one :laughing6: ) and they seem very confident. I reckon we'll sort that out very emphatically. :ayatollah:

Rather see us do well in this competition tbh. The FA cup is a great competition which nobody seems to take seriously, you just need to look at our ticket sales for this to notice that. £15 and £5 yet hardly anyone's going

I'd rather he picked the same team as aganst Villa, and introduce Daehli earlier on etc. Give them a chance to gel and allow Campbell and Jones to form an understanding.

SuperKev been on top of his game this week, three threads, busy times :P

Hope we'll win this one, confidence would be nice and Ole seems good at managing the cup games. Takes my mind off the Hull and Spurs games coming up :) would like to see us put more than one past them though!
