Worst atmosphere

Wed Feb 12, 2014 12:08 am

That is the worst atmosphere we have ever created, that is the worst atmosphere I have ever been in. It was like a morgue for the most part apart from the Villa fans. To think people used to say we were the most passionate and feared fans in the country is unthinkable, I am actually embarrassed that that game was on television for the whole country to see how poor we are.

Re: Worst atmosphere

Wed Feb 12, 2014 12:12 am

Wasn't like the good old days of Rochdale away.

The 20,000 of us there really did drown out the 2,000 home fans :ayatollah:

The old guard would be turning in their graves.

Re: Worst atmosphere

Wed Feb 12, 2014 12:12 am

we are family club of the year.

No room for singing AND being hospitable to the opposition week in week out! We give every team who comes down here a point or 3 which they are happy about, we don't want to upset the away fans and see them go home unhappy by calling them nasty names!

Re: Worst atmosphere

Wed Feb 12, 2014 12:15 am

you're right mind.

The atmosphere has been shit for ages. I said to my old man the other day, I used to enjoy going to the game as much for the atmosphere and buzz you got as much as the match itself.

Now I am so disenchanted with life down there I go watch the game and go home. I will always go to games as I've had a season ticket for years and years, it's in my blood, but the enjoyment has waned so much lately it's disturbing and upsetting.

Re: Worst atmosphere

Wed Feb 12, 2014 12:31 am

Palace are a family club and they have a great atmosphere, we can be both quite easily. I too miss the buzz and to be honest for the first time in my long history supporting Cardiff me and my match going mates decided to get pissed watching the game down the concourse for the first 25 minutes of the second half.

Depressing standing around making sure you don't make any noise at all.

Re: Worst atmosphere

Wed Feb 12, 2014 12:57 am

it comes to something when you have to resort to watching it on the box with a drink rather than walk 15 yards to your seat!!

I honestly in my 20/25 years of going can't put my finger on what's gone so drastically wrong (not just on the pitch). Forget the whole rebrand, manager changes, Vincent Tan angel or devil debates as they have been done to death. Everyone has their own views on each subject but they cannot be the whole reason why it's become so bad down there.

And I can't be the only one thinking it because that's part of the reason why there's no singing anymore, people must be feeling the same. Yes we are in a right pickle on the pitch and the nervousness and tension can be felt, but when we were shit we used to sing, nowadays it's almost as if you're cast as having the plague if you cheer the side on.

Plus you don't half get some useless planks watching who have only come on board recently. That doesn't help.
These two bell ends who sit directly behind me have been spouting shit all season but tonight's bouts of knowledge will take some beating....
1. The pair who we shall call Dumb & Dumber shouted at the tops of their voices "HANDBALL" in OUR area in the first half when it seemed to have hit Catherine on the arm! Brilliant - let's shout for a penalty for the opposition!!
2. 2nd half we could all see what was happening so they were calling for Kimbo to come on. Not a bad shout IF HE WAS ON THE BENCH!
3. When they realised he wasn't on the bench they started shouting for Whitts to come on and "add something different" - again not a bad shout IF HE WAS ON THE BENCH!!
4....And possibly the best, when Campbell was put through in the second half by Jones' flicked header and snatched the shot, Dumb said "Campbell would've scored that if it was him through on goal...." That was bad enough, but Dumber agreed and said "yeh, and why did (whoever he thought was Campbell) he try and be clever bend it with the outside of his foot?!?"
Now I'm no foot specialist but had CAMPBELL shot with the outside of his foot he wouldn't have dragged it 10 yards wide of the post!!!
Seriously - I'm thinking of knocking the pair of them out to get banned on purpose! I don't know what is worse, watching the drivvle that's in front of me or being subjected to the drivvle that's directly behind me!?!?!

Can people be ejected for talking complete shit????

I'd like to interject with a quick reasoning as to why we are so quiet.

Something happened in the mid to late 90s which effected us for good. The rise of the Premier League. And with it the rise of much more popular teams to support than lowly Cardiff City.

Luckily I was not one of them an my dad took me to NP from the age of 3. However, when I was in school nearly nobody around me supported us. They all supported Man U, Liverpool, Newcastle etc.

Now I am 25 and really the last generation of the kids who went down to NP to watch Hereford and Rochdale and whoever else. Nobody coming up in the next generations really knows what it's like and even people my age have been lucky with the success we have seen.

BUT imagine all the people who were omitted from our potential fan base thanks to the new PL all those years ago. It has left us with a strange demographic that I believe goes something like this:

50+ = tired, hate everything about PL football, crave the good old days, simply don't want to sing (especially songs about scruffy c***s and pedos).

30 - 40 = The soul crew era. Still try their best but they have mellowed now and prefer away days. Go to home matches with their kids rather than their mates.

20 - 29 = the Sam Hammam generation. Know little about the tough times but love a good sing song. Unfortunately there are few of us because most of our mates are Man U glory supporters.

Under 20 = mostly in it for the laugh. Love PL football and not necessarily Cardiff City just yet. Might sing a bit or try and join in from the family stand occasionally.

I know it's a generalisation but that is my perspective on our SHIT atmosphere.

The CCS has been a souless plastic bowl of shit for years and it will get worse. The old guard have all moved on from something they once loved and now don't even recognise themself with sadly.

Re: Worst atmosphere

Wed Feb 12, 2014 9:36 am

Simple explanation in my eyes

I'd say a hell of a lot of people have fallen out of love with there football club , you need that love and passion to rile you up for games and with everything that's gone on at the club , people just don't feel it anymore .
It's a bit like we are going through a trial separation when a relationship goes wrong , it will either mend itself or will disappear forever .

I know how you feel mate, I'm surrounded by morons like this. But they seem to be everywhere, when I go away I always seem to be next to one and I sat in a different seat one game this year and still there were people like this by me. Constant whingers, slagging every player off, really winds me up and ruins the game.

Re: Worst atmosphere

We have blamed not being able to stand countless times. Well the club, let the Ninian, stand last night and still no one would sing  the usual few in 117 tried to get things going, but were met with the now usual wall of silence. I even exploded at one stage at those around me "c'mon f*cking sing up for your club" it was met with pittying looks
It really pisses me off that, when the away fans sing at us, our supporters now think it enough to flick them the Vs or give a wanker sign, rather than sing back at them. IT IS EMBARRASSING, OUR LACK OF PASSION.

You complain about the atmosphere yet spent 25 mins at the bar....as do a number of people. On TV the atmosphere sounded fine.

Do you go for the beer and the atmosphere? Personally, I go for the football myself.

In 117, we didn't even see a steward, let alone get told to sit down. I went in the Canton end for the second half, so can't say if the stewards changed tact, second half.

All grounds now are the same it's modern football surely at your age you can see that? It was better than I thought and it's the first game I been to for a while...and besides fans have changed, the loons don't come anymore and they made most of the noise anyway.....

Your right mate, why do we make noise in the bars and then our arses go on the stands. Hopefully we get safe standing rails installed and some of the old culture comes back to save us. That and all the casuals that can't be bothered to go Down to watch us play villa on a tues nights like prob 30% of the family stand.

Re: Worst atmosphere

My problem with all this whingeing is that it comes back to the question, what are you doing about it?

People talk about atmosphere like it comes as part of the package in buying a ticket!
Atmosphere isn't a passive thing it's something you create yourself. How many of you are willing to keep singing on your own and not give a f**k what people think?

I also think those in the ninian stand should give fighting a battle that they cannot win with the stewards and join the canton so everyone can be in one voice.

Personally i don't give a f**k if the away fans can't hear us, as long as it creates an atmosphere on the pitch.

You must be sitting in a different part to me because I stand up when we are shooting at goal and people/stewards tell me to sit down!

Literally no standing at all where I am

Re: Worst atmosphere

I don't know what the earlier poster is on about saying that standing was allowed in the Ninian stand last night, the stewards were as bad as ever, constantly up and down telling people to sit down, plenty of arguments breaking out. Also lots of things being written down by one steward. As for the mostly interesting and correct points made about the age groups--age 30-40 soul crew types, that means that most of those people were in their nappies when the name started to be used in 1982/83 !

I am in Block 117, Row X and I can categorically say that we did not see a steward for the entire first half, no one in that section was asked to sit down, which was unusual, as for the majority of games, the stewards do crack down. What block of the Ninian are you in?

I went in the Canton, for the second half last night, as Im thinking of moving next season from the Ninian 117. I was very dissapointed with the lack of atmosphere, considering that is supposed to be the singing section, it was piss poor :(
if, supporters are really arguing that the atmosphere is good in there, then I give up

Also, even if there are only 100 in the ninian who want to sing and 100 in the canton, it still makes more sense to me if there were 200 in one place.
