Sounds a boring game,
But in my eyes what an exciting game for a nil nil draw, the game was end to end for 90 minutes.

I thought Ole finally had it right tonight, the first half was the best display Ive seen from City since Ole became manager.
We could of been at least 3 nil up by half-time. Playing two up front at home was just what we wanted and needed and it nearly paid off.

Campbell was superb in the first half and was going to be my man of the match, but fair play to Turner tonight he really did produce the goods tonight and was my man of the match. We took the game to Villa for the first 30 odd minutes and had the crowd at last excited. Craig Noone was outstanding once again and terrorised Villa with his runs and crosses.

After a great first half I could not wait for the second half to start. I dont know what Ole said to them, but it seemed like we were a total different team and we let Villa take the game to us and in the second half it could of been two nil to them, but once again Scotland's NO1 saved the day,David Marshall

Losing Mutch did not help and Mutch showed that he is needed every game.

One particular player did stand out for me tonight, but for the wrong reasons, Kenwyne Jones, in my opinion the laziest player on the pitch and Gestede would of done a better job than Jones, I thought he was not only awful, but a total waste of space and he could be liability if he puts another lazy performance in like that again.

At the end of the day in my opinion, we dropped two important points tonight and Hull City home now to me is a must win game or this side will go down. Its still in our own hands and lets hope Ole finally starts with the same formation as he did tonight against Villa and we play for 90 minutes like we did in the first half and if we do, then we will win the game.

It looked like thousands were missing tonight, well you all missed an entertaining game, even though we dropped 2 precious points.

Thankfully we can still stay up and there are 3 or 4 other teams as bad as us.

How could we go from a class team in the first half to a less than ordinary team in the second half?

That was Oles 8th game in charge tonight and hopefully he has finally found his right team, I think weve used 18 players in those 8 games?

At least we had a bit of an atmosphere tonight  :ayatollah:
Roll on Hull City Home  :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Yes shocking turning out, point gained IMO against a decent team. We lack a goal scorer as we have done all season. Any update on Mutch injury?

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Must be hard on them playing that well and not getting much for it, add that to the drastic improvement by Villa in the second and you get an even game.

Agree with most of that Annis. Funny how the atmosphere is better when less people turn up!!!
Leaving the ground, I had resigned myself to a painful relegation season. After getting in and checking the league table, it seems survival is still in our hands.
What a crazy league.......a crazy season.......and a crazy club. No-one said this was gonna be easy!!!

Totally agree, quality first half should've gone 3-0 up at half time, second half came out like school boys, picked up a little towards the end.
Marshall and Ben turner had a stormer.

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:07 pm

I agree we did look good in the first half and playing 2 up worked well, that is 1.5 cause I would say Jones needs to work more
If Jones could put in a good shift and then Campbell could work off him. :ayatollah:

Annis, if we beat Hull we will probably come out of the bottom three, and we will only be 1 point away from Hull and everyone has been saying how much of a good season Hull are having. It's not over by a long way yet

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Why do we look so unfit at the moment!? Second half everyone seemed to be flagging. A good chance to rest everyone saturday and get rid of a few niggles we have. Need to get zaha up to full match fitness pronto, he is one of are only ray of hopes along with noone at creating a goal at the moment. His pass to FC when he hit the post was class. I'm hoping KJ is not match fit either, and not that his performance today was down to pure lazyness! Still all there to play for!

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Good result...much better performance from those who played, which augs well for the battles to come :ayatollah:

Villa are no slouches, playing some good stuff in midfield and are probably a better team away than they are at home!

A couple of moans at the poor distribution from both full backs when upfield, but at the back a more team-like performance from all with some spectacular last-ditch tackles and interceptions...

But what about David Marshall???? How good is that guy when on form like that???? WOW!!!! :notworthy: :ayatollah: :noteworthy:

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:25 pm

I also enjoyed the game. I am very disappointed with jones today.. He was very shit..looked clueless!

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:29 pm

Jones is shit. Defence pissed me off when they ran back to the box when villa had the ball. Apart from that very happy.

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:33 pm

I think the first half was some of the best football I've seen this side of new years from Cardiff. Second half was a disappointment.

Turner was immense in the second half, and Marshall made some great saves. The pointwinning save at the end was divine.

Zaha tries too much. He creates some of our best chances, but often gets lost with the ball.

I thought Wolff looked a lot more comfortable on the ball this time around, and made some great interceptions and passes. I hope he keeps improving, because he's not in gamechanger form just yet.

Dæhli again looked great on the ball, but seemed a bit flustered. I don't think the way the game evolved in the second half suited him. He does look like a terrific prospect for the future.

I think the future is bright. Hopefully Ole won't insist on his rotation-policy, and we'll see mostly the same team next match. (Maybe changing Jones, who looked lazy and impotent)

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:36 pm

Eikrem and Daehli. Wow. What talent they are.

And Marshall, well he's gonna be hard to keep at the end of the season.

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:53 pm

I thought we made a great effort tonight but the overriding message for me is that we are just not good enough. We don't pass it well or make telling runs off the ball. Our forward play is laboured and we don't offer enough options when we attack.

Great defensive performance and Marshall is as good as it gets on his current form. But for me regardless of team selection or formation, we just don't have enough.

On a positive, the left hand side with John and Daehli looks a great prospect for the future.

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:56 pm

Very good summary of tonights game and agree that Turner was MOM outstanding interceptions tonight and to be fair to the guy he always gives 100% every game just don't think he is consistent enough but if he plays for the rest of the season the way he played tonight then I for one will be happy  We were unlucky first half hitting the woodwork twice but second half we dropped right off the pace and conceded far too much room in midfield possibly as a result of Mutch having to go off.

The atmosphere was better tonight and the Stewards only seemed to make a token effort to get people to sit which certainly helped also thought the Villa fans were pretty good and loud at times. Also agree about Jones and I am hoping his lack of effort is down to match fitness rather than laziness. :( I would play both Zaha and Jones against Wigan as we need to improve their match fitness I would also give Berget and Cala a run out :ayatollah:

Our rivals have some tough games tomorrow and we have got to hope they don't pick up any points and finally David Marshall if he was English he would be on his way to Brazil World Class save at the death tonight which COULD keep us up :ayatollah:

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:59 pm

I think that we are lacking up front but the rest of the team are starting to gel. Turner was great tonight. Jones needs a little more time on the pitch and then I hope he will come good. Both teams were poor in front of goal. Atmosphere was far better than West Ham and Norwich but still needs to get back to how it was at the beginning of the season.

Kenwayne jones is possibly the slowest striker i have seen since kevin Nugent :laughing6:

Really enjoyed the game. Like Annis said, end to end. If we do go down, then there will be no shame if we play like tonight. Thought the atmosphere was good too. Again ebbed and flowed with the game. Good Villa support.

After conceding so many goals recently, a clean sheet was welcome. What more can we say about David Marshall? Most of them played OK.

We'll just have to do our best, and see where we end up :ayatollah: :ole:

Brilliant game I enjoyed it, some superb performances from Turner, Marshall, Noone first half, Campbell, Medel and all the rest did well too.

Blatant penalty not given again, hit the bar and post, but over all a fair result as they came back into the game second half, not a bad result Villa are better away than at home :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Bring on Hull, Ole will have had more time and the players should be adapting by then :ole:

You summed it up annis, excellent first half, but we dipped massively.

I thought the Caulker and Turner were excellent, while John also did well against a tricky winger. Can't say I'm a fan of KTC tho.

I also thought Medel had one of his best games for us, won the ball a lot and seemed to use the ball a lot quicker.

Disappointing to not win but each point counts, still tight at the bottom.

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Wed Feb 12, 2014 8:29 am

Oh and of course Marshall brilliant.

As for Jones, awful.

Re: ' From a Class team to less than ordinary '

Wed Feb 12, 2014 9:14 am

We were the better team in the first half, at half time Ole is no doubt asking for more of the same, where as Lambert prob gave his team the hair dryer treatment.

2nd half Villa edged it but in Turner & Marshall we handled them pretty well. Turner was immense, still shocking with the ball but you cant ask for more from him, he gave 100%. Marshall is easily one of the best keepers in the league, those 2 saves near the end were top drawer.

Kenwyne Jones is useless, a big lump with the worst first touch ive seen.

Villa are a good side, better away from home than they are at their own ground. The 10th best team in the league away. I see this as a point gained in my eyes.

A win against Hull and we could be out of the bottom 3. They seem to be on the slide now, we are capable of getting 3 pts.

Theres loads to play for and we can still do it. :ayatollah:
