Cardiff fan on Talksport

Thu Feb 06, 2014 6:58 pm

I was driving home today and at some point before 5:30 there was a Cardiff on.

Durham wanted to hear from Cardiff and Swans fans about the"mess" at both clubs this season.

Anyway, this guy comes on defending Tan and backing the sacking of Malky. Now, we can have an argument all day long about what Tan has done and whether Malky should have been sacked, but during the call the fan said:

"I don't care about the colour of the shirts as long as we are in the Premier League."

I've heard some fans say they have grudgingly accepted the rebrand for various reasons (including being in the Premier League) but I've never heard someone say they don't care.

Couldn't believe what I was hearing. I didn't get the impression he was a wind up merchant.

In fairness Durham did say he reckoned the bloke was in the minority.

Just like everyone else, he's entitled to his opinion I suppose.

If we ain't in the prem he won't turn up so he don't care what colour we play in

There are many out there who think the same as him and not just the new breed of fan.

Moving in certain circles polarises your opinion.

I'm sure nearly most of this board would agree with 50% of what he said. Take away the, "I don't care about the shirt colour" and he has the opinion of most with, "I just want to stay in the Premier League".

When the rebrand happened there was city fans posting on here 'for 100 million let Tan do what he wants to us'

Them comments will haunt me forever.

With a red phone box outside so they can phone Gwyn for protection if there's any trouble and a red London bus for away trips to rival Carlos Coaches. Thats the rumour going around.

I heard that . Think it was a genuine fan . Embarassing . I would be laughing at the jacks if it wasn't for our own mad tan . Goughy made a good point . More and more foreign owners simply do not give a f**k about local fanbase .

There's a bloke in his 50s at work. He's been going on and off for most of his life and he's said to me he genuinely prefers the red

He says it's a better looking kit, he wouldn't be against turning back to blue but he would be quite keen to keep red forever.

Re: Cardiff fan on Talksport

Thu Feb 06, 2014 10:28 pm

That is the point a lot seem to not understand
there are lets say 30000 fans most likely 2000 are adament that we should stay blue and willing to stop going or happy to protest etc
maybe 2000 happy with red and do not want to go back but 26000 who really do not care enough either way

As with most things like this its the ones who do not want or like the change are the ones who shout the loudest

ME I have always liked the colour red but was happy with blue also but I will wear what ever colour I want and do not like to be told either way would wear pink with the cardiff badge on if I wanted too

Re: Cardiff fan on Talksport

If he'd said "I don't care what colour we play in as long as I get to watch my team" it wouldn't be so bad.

He's obviously a glory supporter though and shouldn't really be the man to speak on issues at the club.

I sorta have the same view as him. But mine is more. I don't care what colour we play in as long as we are playing as Cardiff City.

Id love us to be in the premier league as I get to watch every game on pay tv :) :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Certainly not blind.
But most certainly haven't read words to that effect.

Do I feel odd when I see the City run out in red ? No.

Do I particularly care? Not really.

Was there anything glorious about the late 70's to 90's? Certainly not.

Did I prefer being a fan in the 80's and 90's? Are you serious?

Ive always dreamed of being at the top and making wembley appearances....now the time is here I'm not going to feel bad about it because some rose tinted City fan says that after 40 odd years following the City Im a turncoat.

These fans who claim to have given up following the City yet broadcast about it daily think they are on a par with some sort of class warfare warrior.

Have your opinions by all means but let me enjoy following the City without trying to make me feel guilty about it.

I'm not here to cause arguements, and understand that everyone is different.

Guilt "An emotion that occurs when a person believes that they have violated a moral standard that they themselves believe in."

Guilt has nothing to do with external influences, its in your heart due to your own lack of action(s) or indifference on the rebrand

"Without trying to make me feel guilty" Its what "they" like to do. I don't feel guilty in the slightest.

If those people want to do something about it then I say stop following the City until we turn blue again. Of course they won't because they enjoy being in the premiership just as much as I do.

The time we hear about rebrands so much is when there are Intl. breaks and when we lose. You can be guaranteed if we win tomorrow very few will be talking about rebrand.

Don't get me wrong...I know the vast majority want a return to blue but don't get so precious about it. They are buying into Tan's dream as much as anyone else....they just like to have their little moan about it.

Re: Cardiff fan on Talksport

Think it's tough but I guess I'd rather have a team that's playing in red than no team at all because of financial issues. It's just funny that the first season we actually play in red we manage to get promoted after the 5/6 previous years of heartbreak in blue. I want blue back and the old badge, yes, but if it means we still have a club to support then I think the red is an acceptable compromise until Tan moves on or whatever and our financial troubles are behind us.

At the end of the day, if we're all still supporting Cardiff as the Bluebirds, they will remain the Bluebirds. They're still the Bluebirds to me, and I'm sure they are to a whole lot of you. The fans make the club, and we've got one hell of a fanbase :D

I heard it too. Les the Cardiff fan.
Fair play he talked sense on the football front, in particular got across well that Malky was out of his depth, made some horrendous signings and hopefully with a more offensive style of play under OGS, City can prosper.
Durham wasn't his usual sarcastic self, and appreciated his football points but just was not having the red shirt part.

Why would anyone feel guilty for supporting their club

The majority of fans do buy into the Tan dynasty at Cardiff, I am more worried than most about his intentions for the club and im not bothered what division Cardiff play in...You do have a point about the excitement the PL has created + I can stream every game which I couldn't do in the Championship

So your feeling oppressed for being told to wear a certain colour.
And then judging others for the colours they wear, and telling them what they should wear.
