' CARDIFF CITY ' :ole:

07/02/14

Cardiff may hand a first start to Manchester United loanee Wilfried Zaha.
New signing Juan Cala could make his debut in central defence as Mark Hudson is nursing a hamstring injury.

Cardiff have very little in the way of injury worries for the Welsh derby.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could keep Craig Bellamy and Kenwyne Jones starting in attack together after both scored in the comeback victory over Norwich last week.
Theophile-Catherine could return at right-back after Fabio put in a rather average debut performance last week.

Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eyes derby 'history' against Swans

Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called on his players to make history when they play Swansea City in the south Wales derby on Saturday.
The Bluebirds won the first league encounter of the season at Cardiff City Stadium 1-0 in November.
Neither side has completed the league double over their rival, but Cardiff have the opportunity to be the first if they can win at the Liberty Stadium.
"Let's go out and make history. Why not?" Solskjaer said.
"I know about the history of this fixture... I am aware there has never been a league double. This may be the time.

UPDATED 05/02/14 :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Matthew Connolly and Andrew Taylor are still out after their recent operations.

Mark Hudson is out due to a hamstring injury.

Don Cowie is back training and in contention for the match day squad.

TEAM NEWS

Swansea could be without Jonjo Shelvey, who hurt his hamstring at West Ham, but fellow midfielder Jose Canas may return from an ankle problem.
New Swans boss Garry Monk must decide whether to include Michel Vorm and Michu, both of whom have returned to training after lengthy lay-offs.

06/02/2014

Swansea face Cardiff in their first game since Michael Laudrup was sacked in midweek. Garry Monk will take charge of the team on a temporary basis, for now at least.
Michu is still doubtful and is likely to continue to miss out, along with Cañas and Vorm.
Jonjo Shelbey was forced off at West Ham but could be back in action here.

Gary Monk will be caretaker manager and coach Alan Curtis will support him for this fixture.

Swansea have departed company with Michael Laudrup.

Swansea are just three points above their Welsh rivals after losing at West Ham last weekend and the derby has extra significance as the winner will claim a major boost to their hopes of avoiding relegation.

Good side Kev but to start off I think I'd like to see Eikrem in for Noone just to contain the Jacks, with Noone a later option and Daelhi or Kim for Bellamy later in the game

Hmm I reckon Ole might go with what you've just said mate. I reckon seen as they're under all the pressure we should go for them from the start.... :ayatollah:

Not sure about throwing cala in the deep end on Derby day, don't know enough about him but Turner done well last time we played them, ole hopefully makes the right decision. Beside that I think your spot on.
Would defiantly start noone, we've still got impact players like campell and daeli and kim, you've got to start your best players in a game like this!

I agree we should stick with Turner but didn't DJ play Dekel Keinan for his debut against the Jacks down there ?

With noone and fabio down one side and zaha on the other our defence would need to be on their game and organised.
We can't let a team have 25 attemptsbat our goal again

I'm not sure about noone and Zaha with Bellamy behind Jones I think it could leave our full backs exposed to their potential best player I.m.o. dyer. Between him and routeledge they always play well against us attacking declan John if he plays It could be a little bit to gung ho. Would rather go steady with the extra holding midfielder to start and change if it's needed. If it means noone or Zaha on the bench so be it. A draw will be a better result for us than for them I believe in the long term. As much as doing the double would be nice it means nothing in the long run. The last thing we want is to lose an early goal again and let them get their tails up. Keep it tight and hopefully the pressure will start to tell. For a change there is bad press coming from their club but it could make them more up for it. Fingers crossed bluebirds win.

Andre Marriner takes charge of the South Wales derby on Saturday.
Marriner's appointment will raise some eyebrows when you realise he's sent off 5 players in his last three matches. In total he's sent off 10 players this season in 26 matches. He's issued 88 yellow cards including 10 in one game between Chelsea and West Brom.
The potentoial volatilty of Saturday's derby could see a few more cards being dished out :o

It's got a draw all over it I think.

I hope the jacks don't go down. I hate them. But derby day is the best part of the season IMO

Cardiff's Kenwyne Jones targets derby win over Swansea, hero status - and a place in history

Kenwyne Jones is ready to pile more misery on his Cardiff side's arch-rivals Swansea.

New signing Jones has fitted in as quickly as his surname would suggest in the Welsh capital, after scoring on his debut for the Bluebirds last week as they beat relegation rivals Norwich.

Netting in an away victory in Saturday's South Wales derby at the Liberty Stadium too would make him an instant hero with the fans.

Former Stoke striker Jones said: “We will analyse where we can penetrate Swansea’s weaknesses. That’s what you do for every game but it is a bit more special for the club and fans because it is a derby.”

Cardiff won the reverse fixture in November and can make history by completing the first home-and-away double of the 27 seasons the pair have spent in the same division since this rivalry began in 1929.

But Jones insists three points are more important than bragging rights as both teams fight for Premier League survival.

He said: “We know a derby match is important for the fans but three points are the priority. Games against other teams in bottom half are important so we need to keep our heads and play the football we can to win the game.

“The table can look daunting when you’re in this position so we have to win to keep pace with the teams around us.

“We have to play everyone in the bottom half so it’s important for us to build the confidence from last week’s win over Norwich and believe we can get points from them.”
