Former Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay urges fans to fight for what's right at Bluebirds

The axed Cardiff boss has accepted an invitation to become an honorary member of the club's Supporters' Trust.

Former Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has urged Bluebirds supporters to keep fighting for their rights at the club.

The popular Scot, who was sacked in December, has accepted an invitation to become an honorary life member of the Supporters' Trust. The move comes just 24 hours after owner Vincent Tan insisted new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who earned his first win against Norwich on Saturday, was an improvement on his predecessor.

Tan said: “I am very happy with Solskjaer. He’s much better than Malky Mackay. It was a very excellent win.”

But in a letter accepting the Trust’s invitation, Mackay has told how he is still ‘gutted’ not to be at the helm of his beloved Bluebirds and he urged fans who have been rocked by Tan’s decision to change the club’s colours to red, to keep ‘doing the right things.’

Malky said: “It was an absolute pleasure to receive your letter. I was touched by its kindness and really appreciate the sentiment.

“I absolutely loved my job and loved living in Cardiff. In truth I’m gutted that I’m not still there.

“As far as the Cardiff fans are concerned, my memory will live long of their passion , commitment and welcome that myself and my staff were given in our time at the club. It would be an honour to be made a life member and, of course, I would accept such a thing.

“I thought you spoke with passion, thoughtfulness and clarity at the meeting in the board room. Please don’t give up on trying to do the right things for the club. Once again, Tim thanks for the memories and the support. I wish you the very best of luck and health.”

Tim Hartley said: “Malky Mackay made a huge contribution during his time at Cardiff City, culminating in promotion to the Premier League.

“He had a fantastic rapport with Bluebirds fans and was undoubtedly one of the most popular managers in the club’s history. So we thought it was appropriate that Malky should be invited to become an honorary member of the Trust. We’re delighted that Malky has accepted that invitation.”

Because he was on the pay roll.

Don't think this is a good move by the Supporter's Trust, as the only thing that VT will do when he discovers that Malky is an honorary member, is to dig his heels in deeper over the rebrand IMO!

Think they've shot themselves in the foot over this appointment!

I really, really don't understand the Malky love.

exactly, malky telling us to stick by team give tan your support but soon as he goes he can say how he really felt but surely the malky nut huggers would be pissed of at malky for asking them to stick by tan

Wow, what principles Malky has!

Fight for whats right.....unless you are earning from it.

gone down even further in my estimation now.

Malky was a professional football manager.

If that statement needs any more clarity as to why he promoted the rebrand then nobody can really help. I've even been kind enough to put the key-word in bold.

You preach about principles but turn a blind eye when getting paid. You either stick by your principles or not. You dont lie for coin.

I understand what your saying though Craig....He was the manager before the rebrand though, effectively the club changed it's kit under his tenure as the gaffer.

He could of walked away on principle, but where would that of left his career?? as an unknown manager who has nothing on his management CV

Was Malky wrong in wanting to do well in his career..??

No, but how can he preach about principles when he left his at Tans door whilst getting paid.

you have a valid point Craig, I really don't see an inexperienced manager walking out on a contract on a matter of principle though..Maybe it was why Malky was selected. An older manager (with £££££ in the bank) might of walked in the same situation...who knows, even that statement is doubtful as you can never have enough ££££££ apparently

Not the right time for Malky to accept such an invitation from the supporters trust :ayatollah:

All i can say is the trust are brainless, how on earth is this going to help ? Its only going to alianate tan so bang goes dialouge between both parties over rebrand!

Some people will just have a pop at Malky over anything.

What has the Cardiff City fan base come to?

So what happens when he gets another managers job? Can't see the fans of whatever club it is, being happy about it when they find out

Re: Malky urges fans to fight for what's right!

Mon Feb 03, 2014 1:51 pm

Malky has left Cardiff City and is highly unlikely to EVER come back.

What benefit does it give to the Trust to have Malky as a 'life member' ?

Is it because now Malky has become an ally of the anti Tan brigade within the Trust ?

Sure, give the fans one last opportunity to express their gratitude, man love, or whatever they wanted when Malky attended a meeting, but the relationship has ended now and it's time for all parties to move on.

I think you'll find that most are questioning the trusts decision and not having a "pop at Malky"
I do not understand why they think this is a good idea (assuming the majority agreed in the first place)

If he had principles like he claims he would have walked. You cant claim to have principles then not walk due to money. Is the ultimate sell out.

On the open top bus Malky started singing we'll always be blue. Didnt like
his tactics at times but loved his passion and he will go down as one of the best loved managers we have had.

Read the article again, Malky doesn’t once mention the Rebrand – His exact words are – “Please don’t give up on trying to do the right things for the club”. The Trust have a number of objectives including trying to get fan representation on the board. He could be Referring to any of their agenda items.

So why should quit over any of these?

Your probably one of the worse trolls on this forum and you never post anything positive. If you’re not having a go at the players or manager(s), you having a pop at anyone who wants to return to blue.

all it does is piss tan off...............his ole is better than malky jibe was clearly aimed at the ..dont sack makay mob.......it shows how petty his thinking can be....so Hartley does this.....in my opinion Against the feelings of OUR fans..

as for Malky..well...he is gutted he isnt here being paid and being quiet...suprise suprise. i fully understand his job was important to him, but its a bit rich now to be taking the blue side..
