BEST BUSINESS IN THE WINDOW

Sat Feb 01, 2014 12:06 am

So who is it?
There's obviously no right or wrong answer, but who do you think has got the most out of the Jan transfer window?

I wanted to see us get a CB in, but if Zaha gets his head down and proves something, I think we've done alright.
Palace brought in a fair few players, Ince (IMO) could go either way - immense or a flop, no inbetween really.

For me its Man Utd though, Mata is exactly what they need, they are out of the title race, but its a good signal of intent from Moyes, and I think when they spend in the summer they'll be back to a competitive force.

QPR have signed about 604 strikers :o

Also.... Have we done enough business to stay up?

Cardiff really fucked up by not getting Pulis when they had the chance.

Turned that club around.

It'll take til the end of Feb to see. But Ole has failed in getting a CB and thinned the forward line. Very very naive.

That said look at the contract lengths and with a bit of cash Cardiff should get top 2 in the championship next season.

Re: BEST BUSINESS IN THE WINDOW

That's very pessimistic, Ole could potentially turn us right around, he has the right drive and ambition about him, he hasn't had a brilliant start, but this is the hardest league in the world, lets see how he does

Palace. They now have the squad to stay up whereas we don't.

Fulham have done well , and signing Holtby is in immense capture for them which I think will keep them up .

I think Palace have done well, and I think Joe Ledley is part of that. CL experience will help massively,

but football is unpredictable. If we go down, so beat it, as long as we go down fighting, and not roll over like we did against Stoke or West Ham

Re: BEST BUSINESS IN THE WINDOW

Palace have done some good business to fair. If we had signed a good centre back and striker today I would have been happy but I have to say I'm really worried about our chances of staying up now!

Fulham out of our relegation rivals and I reckon they will be ok.

Palace did ok with 5 in but then puncheon already there on loan and Hennessy doesn't matter too much. Ince and ledley don't have PL experience so who knows. Dann their best signing IMO and someone perhaps we could have got for not much outlay and considering we've sold Rudy and Conway to them.

We did ok but I don't think 2 of the Norwegians will feature much so it's all about whether Zaha and jones can create / score enough goals.

Palace have done alright, strengthened all round. Got some good players in Ledley and Ince, along with Hennessey. Not sure if they signed any defenders though

Crystal Palace's Tony Pulis is given backing with five new signings
• Thomas Ince makes £1m move from Blackpool in loan deal
• Hennessey, Puncheon, Dann and Ledley join relegation fight

Crystal Palace have given their manager, Tony Pulis, considerable backing on transfer deadline day by sanctioning a quintet of recruits to bolster their attempts to avoid relegation, including the loan of the England Under-21 forward, Thomas Ince, from Blackpool.

Ince completed a five-month move as the cut-off approached after Palace finally secured an agreement with the Championship team's chairman, Karl Oyston. The top-flight club have paid a £1m loan fee for the 22-year-old, who will be available for 14 matches though not Sunday's visit to Arsenal, with Stephen Dobbie joining Blackpool for a fourth time in his career until the end of the season.

Only the Wales goalkeeper, Wayne Hennessey, and Jason Puncheon of the new arrivals will be eligible for the trip to the Emirates. Hennessey signed a three-and-a-half-year contract after moving from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £1.5m, while Puncheon's £1.75m arrival from Southampton on a permanent deal to 2018 freed up a loan slot for Ince to occupy. The winger had already been at Selhurst Park on a season-long deal and has contributed all the club's league goals this calendar year.

The Blackburn Rovers centre-half, Scott Dann, has also signed up to 2017 after a fee of around £1.7m was agreed with the Championship club, while Celtic's Joe Ledley has moved south for £450,000. The Wales midfielder was out of contract at Parkhead in the summer.

Palace opted against pursuing a striker with last season's top scorer, Glenn Murray, nearing full fitness after a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The south London club also allowed their Spain Under-21 international, José Campaña, to join the Bundesliga club Nuremberg on loan to the end of the season with a view to a permanent move.

Chelsea.

Zouma, Matic and Salah are brilliant signings for their team in years to come

Fulham have signed quality, heitinga, holtby, the Greek striker and a couple more, great signings that will push them up the league IMO

Have to say Palace .
Pulis was a very shrewd appointment by them, bags of experience and knows exactly what's needed to survive at this level.
I thought he did a great job at stoke despite the football not being too attractive ( see Malky) and if it wasn't for him Stoke would have been playing championship
Football a long time ago!

Palace havent signed Mata, Suarez and Aguero you know.

Just cos they had a busy last day its about quality not quantity.

They signed Ince we signed Zaha and Daehli
They signed Ledley we signed Wolff plus already have better midfielders than Ledley.
Hennessy. So what. Marshall is a far better keeper.
They signed Dann. Hes hardly Vincent Kompany. Yes we could have done with another CB but Turner and Hudson were both better than Dann in the championship.

We let a few donkeys go in Odemwingie, Acorn and Velonijka and replaced them with Jones and Berget. Would been nice to get another striker in hardly the end of the world, I am sure we will get more goals with Zaha, Daehli and Noone creating and a more positive approach from Ole.

f**k me its not all doom and gloom, people getting their knickers in a twist cos Palace signed a few players from the chsmpionship and SPL.

Didn't say it was all doom and gloom.

Personally I think we'll be ok.

I was simply pointing out that Pulis was a good appointment and knows what's needed at this level and would have therefore brought players in of the calibre he feels is needed and I'm not going to doubt his judgement based on what he did with stoke .

You're wrong Polo. Its doom and gloom. By 2020 we'll be playing in the Welsh leagues. :old:

Palace got 7 home games left of which theyve got Man U, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Southampton. Only Villa and WBA from the so called 2nd tier of the league.

On paper I would say theyve strenghtened best. 3 very good signings.

Re: BEST BUSINESS IN THE WINDOW

We will know end of April.

IMO Palaces signings are nothing special.

Hennessy.....Reservr keeper
Scott Dann.....Had one good season alongside Roger at Brum, nothing of note since
Ince.....will not fit in with Pulis' style, same as at stoke their creative players never really had a chance
Ledley......lol, just no

all being said they are probably saying same about us.

Think Pulis knows a little bit more than us in terms of what's needed to keep them up.

Of course we are allowed opinions Craig but you found fault with every single signing he made, he's not done too bad so far since he went there.!

Of course I found fault, they arent perfect and I dont support Palace so want them to fail.

like I also said, they are probably saying the same about us

Agree on Palace we did better, Dann is ok, Zaha is better than Ince and all of our midfield and reserve midfield are better than Ledley ...........

A good Manager though, so may be able to keep those average players overachieving .........
