Sky Sports understands Cardiff City are in talks to sign Hamburg midfielder Tomas Rincon.

Sky Sports revealed earlier this month that Rincon was eyeing a move to the Premier League after turning down a new deal at Hamburg.

The 25-year-old is out of contract in Germany and, after rejecting the club's offer of a new deal, Hamburg have decided to cash-in on him.

A number of Premier League clubs are thought to be keeping tabs on Rincon, but Cardiff are hoping to win the race for the Venezuela international.

Cardiff are thought to have agreed a fee and the player is flying in for talks and a medical at the Welsh outfit.

West Ham are also believed to be monitoring Rincon's situation, but Cardiff are in pole position to sign the defensive midfielder after being granted permission to hold talks with the player.

Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaker is desperate to bolster his squad before the transfer window slams shuts on Friday as he looks to lead them off the bottom of the table.

Agreed that a striker and then a CB is top priority. Which I'm very sure Ole is aware of.

However if Medel gets injured our season is f**ked. Gunnarson I don't think would quite be up to the task on current form to fill in for me. I think he's being looked at as a CDM??

Could be right, it would allow the wing backs, wingers and attacking midfielder to push further forward to support and supply our constantly isolated striker

All I'm saying is If we go down to the championship I will be Purchasing the naming rights for A.F.C Cardiff City and charging £1 entry to Caerau-Ely football ground, capacity 100 people, home of The Blue Bells.

Brilliant signing if it happens. Replace Whittingham with Rincon and have Him alongside Medel, protecting the back four, then the four front players can go all out attack. Imagine Zaha, Noone, Jones and a goalscorer all just focussing on creating and scoring goals. I think Campbell who has been brilliant this season looks knackered and he needs a rest, against Man Utd u could tell that playing up front on his own all season is starting to take its toll on him. But, he has been brilliant for us so far and after a couple of games rest he can come back as good as ever. We also need a quality centre back and another striker, then i think that we will have a great chancenof staying up.

Ps - Just a thought but i think Ole might just be thinking of playing Medel at centre half, possibly. U never know cause he did play their for Chile against England and he had Rooney in his pocket all game.

I believe point 2. Is what Ole will be looking to do. Witts will be dropped and will be no more than a bench player for the future.

Maybe hel drop whitts and play with 2 holding, giving mutch and the front 3 more freedom
