Friday 24th Jan 2014.

Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed Jo Inge Berget from his former club Molde.

The Bluebirds boss today revealed Molde attacking midfielder Berget is his 3rd signing since he became manager.

So far all the 3 signings have been Norwegian.

Berget, 23, who can play either up front or in midfield, has four Norway caps and follows compatriots Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Moller Daehli in joining the Premier League club.

Cardiff are also thought to be close to taking Manchester United's Wilfried Zaha on loan.

However, Solskjaer confirmed on Friday the winger has not yet had a medical.
Berget joined Molde from Italian side Udinese in September 2011, but was out of contract with the Norwegian team at the end of this season.
He joins Cardiff on an undisclosed deal.

Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed the signing of another Norwegian player after moving for Molde attacker Jo Inge Berget.

Solskjaer confirmed the Bluebirds will make their third signing of the January window today, but said moves for Wilfried Zaha or any other players were not finalised.

The Bluebirds are also understood to have held talks with Wigan defender Ivan Ramis.

Cardiff boss Solskjaer said: "Berget will sign this morning. He only has four or five months left on his contract so it is a good deal for us. He is strong, clever and scored against England in the Under-21 Championships. He will do well for us."

On Zaha, he added: "Ask Manchester United about him, he is a Man United player. I can't comment on players who are at other clubs. Nothing has been concluded apart from Berget.

"So far, I have brought in three full internationals who will be good value for money in the long term. They may not have played in the Premier League but I know them and they are full internationals.

"There have been loads of players I have wanted but the price tags are not realistic. We have one or two bids in, yes."

Berget, 23, who can play in midfield or attack, signed for Solskjaer at Molde in 2011, scoring 17 goals in 63 appearances.

He previously had an unsuccessful spell at Italian side Udinese where he was loaned to Norwegian teams Stromsgodset and hometown club Lyn.

Berget joins fellow Norwegians Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Moller Daehli at Cardiff City Stadium.

CITY CONFIRM DEAL FOR JO INGE BERGET

PUBLISHED
24th January 2014.

Cardiff sign Norwegian International forward from Molde FK :ayatollah:

He’s a forward and full Norwegian International and arrives on a very good deal for us."

CITY are delighted to confirm the arrival of Norwegian International forward Jo Inge Berget from Molde FK for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old forward arrives at Cardiff City Stadium on a two-and-a-half year deal alongside fellow Norwegian’s Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Møller Dæhli as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s third signing of the January transfer window.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup with Budweiser fourth round tie with Bolton Wanderers, Solskjær said of his new signing: “I’m delighted to welcome Jo to the club. He went through his medical last night and signed his contract this morning.

“He’s a forward and full Norwegian International and arrives on a very good deal for us. He knows the way I want to play, he’s a secondary frontman and is a very strong and intelligent footballer. He’ll do well for us.”

Berget, who will wear squad number 34 for the Bluebirds, arrives at Cardiff City Stadium as another member of Molde FK’s successful Tippeligaen title winning squad of 2011 and 2012.

A four time capped Norwegian International forward, Berget made 63 appearances for Molde, scoring 17 goals, also adding the Norwegian Domestic Cup to his honours list in November 2013.

Berget started his career at fellow Norwegian outfit Lyn Oslo before making to move to Italy and Serie A with Udinese. After three years developing through the youth ranks at Stadio Friuli, including a year on-loan back in Norway with Stromsgodset, Berget made the permanent switch to Molde in 2011.

Daehli looks great for the future. Eikrem looks a good buy but it's early days. It's a joke how so many people are jumping to the conclusion these players aren't good enough when the summer transfer window was an absolute farce.

I expect you to be asquick to call them shit as you were with Cornelius. So that's about 100 minutes of football. Doubt it

Just being as pathetically fickle as you've been, not even backing players who've played well. Sell them all and buy some random Scandinavians, great idea.

Theophile, Caulker & Medel will easily make the money back that was spent

Not sure about this one , the others I was excited about .

30 goals in 142 games in Norway :?: didn't exactly set the league alight over there .

Went to udinese on loan and didn't make the team once , being loaned out 4 times in 3 years .

Never scored over 10 goals in a season

Doesn't seem to have the same potential or fanfare the others arrived with ! Can't see how he is any better than what we have already got in the squad !

Ole must see something in him nobody else does because his stats don't back him up .

Cornelius has cost us a fair chunk and his wages are beyond what he should be earning, he could score 10 goals and I still wouldn't be happy with the buy as it's a signing we should have made in the second season of PL football. Why should I back Cornelius when he offers nothing to the team. KTC is defensively inept but good going forward, Caulker & Medel I agree were good buys but we overpaid for Medel

Let's give the lad a chance first, before we crucify him. I'm sure Ole can mould into a Premiership player.

Nowhere near a fair comparison.

The new lad hasn't put the pen down from signing a contract and the knives are out and his contract and fee will be nowhere near that of Cornelius.

Cornelius was lauded when he arrived but the massive fee and wages puts more pressure on him and his fleeting appearances have not gone well.

Berget "played" for Udinese when he was 16. He didn't settle well personally in Italy, so he wanted to go back. Did not have too much to do with his talent or lack of it...
He's been good for Molde. Intelligent footballer, but seldom used in a typical striker position.
I think will suit the premiership good. Maybe even more so than Eikrem.
He is is strong, with a good strike and smart movement. Pretty fast paced, not like Frazier, but above average.

Really hope all these Norwegian signings work out for us , but I do have my doubts.

Would love see us bring in an established /experienced Premier league player who is used to playing at this level week in , week out.

As a midfielder? A goal every 4.5 games isn't too shabby.

Another bargain buy, so that's 3 players for around 5 million. Keep it up Ole, I'd much prefer these 3 players signed than the money spent on odemwingie and Brayford.

I think if you take three Championship Midfielders from one side Cardiff supporters are not
very happy and The Championship is much higher standard than Norway. Daehli is fantastic.
But Ole quotes how he scored a goal against England at Under 21? does prove nothing

From the highlight reel he looks like a good player, intelligent runs and passes and good hard strikes along the ground. I know they only show the best bits but why complain about what could be some extra creativity for us and hasn't cost an arm and a leg.
