Whats happened to him?
Looks a shadow of the player he was earlier in the season.
Dont know wether the pace of the premier league is taking it out of him, esoecially the xmas period but he looks overweight and is blowing through his arse come the hour mark.
Needs a rest I think.
Sun Jan 19, 2014 11:58 am
A fooking rest. He needs to sort his diet out and work harder on his fitness. A pro footballer should easily be able to manage 2 games a week . This of course is barring injury. It's all in the mind Polo

Perhaps he does need a rest but I think he still needs to do more. I know sometimes we need to keep things simple but he does it too much. He's got a good range of passing, wish he'd use it more. On the otherhand I don't want to criticise too much because everyone played their part yesterday. Bloooobirds

I think Ole's given him the week off seen as he was on his way home on the train rather than the team bus. Should do him the world of good as he's usually used to a xmas break.

Dont forget he is still adjusting to our climate too

It seems the cult hero cracks are starting to appear. Even Polo who was at one time the online Medel bodyguard has started to question him
As I said at the start of the season. The DM role is one of the easiest to fill and im amazed you spent £12-£14m on him. Hes neat and tidy just like most DM's at this level... and thats about it. But you are right, he looks terribly unfit.

£12 - 14 million? Where did you get that from?

I think he has been fantastic . Always chasing the ball down , always making a nuisance of himself , always making himself available to collect the ball off his defenders . Leads by example and never shirks a challenge .
He's a defensive midfielder what more do people want from him . He doesn't look overweight he by his very nature a stocky person ( a bit like Rooney ) .
He plays arguably the hardest position on the pitch , sweeping in front of the defence on your own most games against the best playmakers in the world at this level is a very very hard thankless task .
They are so quick thinking and moving that it must be a nightmare to judge where to place yourself , then you have to keep An eye on the strikers buzzing around behind you and players like toure running straight at you .
I wouldn't want his job it's a tiring position and you have to be super fit to do it well which he has been doing al season
keep it up gary you've been quality so far

He bossed the game against you

I think that yesterday he was still playing to the compact set-up under Malky. Perhaps he better suited to that style as yesterday he seemed out of position and short on pace. Although this was the richest football club on earth so lets not over react. Given time and a good manager, he will adapt and flourish in any formation because he is class. And Mario, he was still better than Whitts

Agreed! Very rarely loses the ball and has a good range of passing. He's also had a lot of travelling to do with Chile and is used to a break over the Christmas period. He's been 1 of our best players

His form dropped after one of the international breaks. I think he's played a load of football in 2013 and it's simply caught up with him now.

Based on players who have made 5 starts or more, your current best players this season according to the Index are...
1) Caulker
2) Whittingham
3) Turner
4) Theophile
5) Marshall
6) Mutch
7) Noone
Medel comes in 8th place.

Regardless of your thoughts on medel that shows stats arent what all they say... ktc is rubbish, turner was superb at the start of the season only. Marshall should be number 1. Followed by mutch, with noones recent performances catching them up.
Did u watch our game roathie? Thoughts? I was surprised by the room noone was getting, but I suppose the full backs , when at home are more like wingers anyway lol

I think KTC is an excellent full back, just a bit brainless. One of Malkys better buys. Peoples main thing they say to praise Medel is "he rarely gives it away" - well his pass completion rate is now below 90% and most of his passes are attempted within 30 yards of his own goal. He does it as a defender too, not a midfielder. In posession he drops into the back 4 - so its in an uncontested part of the field and still lags behind the likes of canas and britton who operate in a much more advanced and congested part of the field.
Nah missed it yesterday mate, only tend to watch you when im staying up to watch us anyway or I cant sleep

No shame in losing to Man City though.
Sun Jan 19, 2014 12:39 pm
I cant agree with ktc. I think he would make a better winger. Defensively he is poor and his concentration is shocking
His best traits are speed and ability to beat a man, he should be playing further forward imo
Sun Jan 19, 2014 12:40 pm
Serious question Castro, why are you so obsessed with us? You won't see many digging up those sorts of stats on their rivals.
Sun Jan 19, 2014 12:41 pm
Theophile after a decent start is all over the place now. I'd even put Kev in front of him at RB.
Gary just looks totally unfit.

May be something to look at in the future, although every time I've seen him he's stood out as one of your better players. Not that it is saying much again because we were awful, but he impressed me massively against us. Very athletic full back. Fullbacks aren't necessarily always great defenders, Roberto Carlos was never a great defender - he did enough to do his defensive duties and then made his greatest contribution when attacking. Similar to Rangel in that respect, and Davies for that matter.

Hardly have to dig it up, just type it in

mostly it is due to previous debates I have had with people, at the time we didnt have the luxury of relying on stats as the matches hadnt been played yet. The proof is in the pudding as they say and its always useful to revisit topics and update them statistically.
As for why I post here - this is a great forum. However the main topic of discussion is going to be you guys, i am happy with that as I'm a welsh football fan. Swansea threads are posted regularly and daily without fail - I have a roll on here as resident jack.
Id much rather that than post on planetswans which must be one of the worst football forums on the net.

Starting to agree with that he does seem better suited to a winger role .
I wouldn't say his defending is poor just still adjusting to a higher level and higher quality opposition . He will come good he just needs time which is hard for us to give him , he'd was a bargain for the price we paid
Concentration is alright he just sometimes rushes or panics rather than loses concentration IMO

I don't think he has the quality going forward to be a winger. His biggest attribute is he is athletic but it's not enough.

Is he playing for chile in the friendly this week?
