FM 2014

Thu Jan 16, 2014 5:25 pm

Just downloading FM2014, can't find any other threads already posted about it, if someone knows of one can they link it here please.

Wouldnt mind having a crack with our club, can someone give me any tactical advice or decent signings

I hate starting in the prem, so I guess ill start a game in the blue square n/s as well, any team suggestions, preferably one with a wage budget that is less money than I give my kid as pocket money??

Oh and what's better about it than fm13?

Always try and start up a game but never complete them. Newport ain't bad if you wanna build up a team with good tactics, few loans here and there help. For tactics I'd suggest looking at fm-base.co.uk.

Difference not really sure, just a bit better than 2013  Think it's more hands on I think

Download the editor from steam and create a club in Conference N/S. I made one called Cardiff FC playing in blue at Ninian Park. In my third season now challenging for Conference premier play offs :ayatollah:

I've never got in to FM14

I keep going back to my FM 12 save because the Cardiff team are the best in the world and I find it frustrating going backwards

Gav, where did you get it from? Its £35 on Steam. You buy it on there? Im thinking about getting it as its one of the few games available on Linux which I use. I don't use Windows.

Actually I just made it and used the option to fill it with random players. I got loads of Conference Premier level players and a few good enough for League 2 so I just sold them for shit loads and bought my way up the league. Especially the lad DJ bought off me for Sheffield Wednesday for £270k ;)

I got it in Oct for 24 quid. It's addictive I'm on it every night but it's harder than before to consistently win I struggle to get to mid table! I'm still trying to find a winning Cardiff tactic!

I started well with knocking the ball long up to Peter crouch but the other teams seems to have sussed that now

I've got a Sheffield Utd career, 4th season and we're in the play off final vs wednesday! Pressure definitely on!

Re: FM 2014

Just started, taylor moved onto the bench, butner in from Man Utd, gestede out for 350k, lost my first 2 games, gonna try 4-5-1 now in honour of MM

Re: FM 2014

Never been sacked until this game as Cardiff manager, easily the hardest to date, ended up going back with Barnett to be able to build up my new tactics and things are great so far :ayatollah:

Re: FM 2014

Should have bought it when conference clubs had it in their club shops! Forest Green Rovers, Hyde and Woking etc were selling it from as little as 12 quid

Re: FM 2014

Thu Jan 16, 2014 9:18 pm

I have played one season and I set up exactly the same as you Gav and signed buttner! I was up the top of the table all year and eventually won the league, I must have had it on easy as I went on a 20 game unbeaten streak. I bought Denis Chersyev and montero in January as well as loaning a couple of players who got injure straight away. 4-5-1 definitely worked for me sand out performers were Caulker, Marshall and Montero when he signed!

Just started and I sacked Moody and Kerslake straight away.

New philosophy coming into play. :malky: :malky:

Re: FM 2014

I currently play a 4-1-2-1 narrow diamond system, keeping the same successful tactic I used in the previous FM's, but the tactical instructions are set out differently in FM14 and it's a lot tougher. On my first save, I selected a budget for a mid table finish, but I struggled after a decent start and after plummeting to the bottom, Tan held a meeting stating he wanted a minimum of 10 points from my next 5 games, which I somehow managed to achieve! But then I lost home to Man Utd 2-1 and lost away to Spurs 1-0 and despite still being 14th, I got sacked for not achieving the points target set in my last 5 games after all!

However, I have since experimented and tweaked my tactics and second time around, I managed to finish 11th in my first season (I was 9th until Fulham scored a 92nd minute equaliser in my last game). I still use the 4-1-2-1-2 narrow diamond, my defenders are all set on defend duty, my holding midfielder, Medel is on defend duty, my 2 centre midfielders (usually Whittingham and Gunnarsson) are on support duty and my attacking midfielder, Tim Cahill (awesome signing), is on support duty. With my 2 strikers, one was set as a trequartista at home but a false 9 away (more defensive) and the other striker was set as an advanced forward.

My team instructions are shorter passing, play narrower, lower tempo, be more expressive, roam from positions, exploit the middle and hit early crosses. My fluidity is very fluid and my mentality is overload.

My best signing in my first season was Ruben, a left back from Maritimo for 975k, he's since broken into the Portugal national team and won player of the year in my first season. I also sold Campbell for 5 and a half million and used the money to sign Shane Long (my advanced forward), who's pace running onto through balls through the middle suits my tactic very well. Tim Cahill can be signed for around 850k from New York and despite his age, has been a fantastic signing. I signed Marco Di Vaio for 170k who chipped in with some important goals early on but because of his age, his physical stats deteriorate second half of the season. Nikola Drincic is a Montenegro international who can be signed on a free in January on cheap wages and he has a good corner and free kick delivery. I brought him in to replace Whittingham who I sold to raise funds, I also loaned Kim Kallstrom in January. Those are the only useful signings I made to be honest. You really have to wheel and deal to raise funds in your first season.

Got Finnbogason in.
Signed Januzaj on loan - took ages to get him.
Got Eikrem from Heerenveen and got rid of Gunnarsson same time.

Molde won't sell me Daehli no matter what. :(

Just smashed Schalke 4-0. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Anyone else feel powerful when playing this?

I've sacked Moody, Kerslake, loads of scouts etc. and replaced them with dutch, spanish and belgian scouts.

I feel like Vincent Tan tbh. I can basically do what I want. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

You cheated. Januzaj doesn't leave the mancs under and circumstances in the first year.

Buy Barbosa from Santos. 16 years old so he'll join you in a year or so once you've confirmed it but he is basically like Neymar. He'll agree to join when Cardiff are in the prem, then by the time he comes I was in the Championship. Absolutely killed everyone.

I did not cheat. You get banned for cheating online with Steam. You think I'm an idiot and going to get banned? :?

I just offered them loads of money in bonuses and stuff. Im struggling now though because I released loads to cut the wage bill and now I have only 26 players and about 5 injuries. I've got O'Sullivan in the team and some other u21's at the moment.
