KIM created most chances in league yesterday

Sun Jan 12, 2014 5:27 pm

Kim created 6 chances yesterday, our most creative player and most in league, but seems a lot on here only noticed when he wasn't doing much as remember a lot slagging him off afterwards. I thought he had a decent game and looked dangerous and will be a big player for us this season

Most Chances Created Yesterday

Kim 6
Mirallas 5
Lukaku 4
Willian 4
A.Johnson 3
Bellamy 3
Sidwell 3
Baines 3
Sagbo 3
Davis 3

Sadly people only take notice of the hard crunching tackles or running around like a headless chicken. Given some freedom Kim will be a massive player for us

What is a "chance" though?

Is that him passing the ball to a player before he took a blocked shot?

We only had the one clear cut chance yesterday really.

A chance is a chance. That blocked shot could have easily been a deflection into the top corner. And it's not Kim's fault the shot is blocked. It's down to the other player to finish.. At least he's finding the players in the first place and making some sought of attacking effort

So if he passed a to a player on the 30 yard line and he attempted a speculative drive that flew over the bar would that be classed as a chance created?

Is it not a shot? It's an effort on goal, what if it goes in? What if it's a 25 yard pass to find that player in the first place?.. It's all ifs and buts, but a chance is a chance. Whether it goes in the onion bag or goes into road z.. The positive from all this is that there are two Cardiff players in this list with a total of 9 chances created. Shows we are attacking more

There's a difference in quality of the chances. All I want to know is were the chances worthwhile or just speculative shots?

It's like good possession and bad possession. Good possession is where you're in the opposition territory pulling their players out of position and constantly probing. Bad possession is when you just pass between your back four and goalkeeper.

It's difficult to to define one.. Beckham shooting from 55 yards was speculative effort/chance but it ends up being a goal. At least it shows we are trying to attack a lot more under OGS. How many times have we had almost 30 shots at goal this season?

Oh don't get me wrong I don't mind us shooting from range but as you say, someone got an assist for that Beckham shot and it was clearly nothing to do with the assist but all due to Beckham's shot :P

Absolutely correct! Our one flair player (Wolfy and Daelhi excluded) and much more effective alongside Mutch.

agree.............this is where stats dont work.
its like when Britain had a higher percent pass completion than Iniesta..didnt mention that 80% of those passes were to vorm

Stats are rubbish, but my view is a chance is a chance, whether it's a simple two yard pass for a 25 yard pearler or a 30 yard pinpoint cross for a volley

Re: KIM created most chances in league yesterday

To be honest I am shocked with this stat. The number of times Kim ran down the right and then cut in into traffic in the second half frustrated me as it congested things, resulting in hopeful shots that were easily blocked as West Ham easily managed to get everyone behind the ball. I wish Kim would have had a go beating his man as they had a patched up defence and Kim has the ability to go past players.

I find Kim is very hit and miss, he's either short on confidence and scared to make mistakes, so takes the simple options, or he's on fire. I feel sometimes he needs to have a crunching foul on him or two to fire him up.

Its denoted by premier stats or are they wrong for all players listed? Or are just kims chances created different from everyone else's? :laughing5:

Of course not

I'm just dubious of the "chances created" stat as a whole.

Kim had a great first half... Second Bellamy took the spotlight from him... Sometimes he needs to put his head down and go for goal a bit more...

Well done for posting this thread. A great and timely stat find. I think many have a skewed perception of yesterdays game because we lost. But we absolutely deserved to win that game by some margin IMO. The referee was appalling also. I don't know what game Alan Hansen was watching, but his analyses on MOTD citing West Ham's performance as the best of the weekend was simply baffling. We deserved to slam West Ham with our second half performance, with 10/11 men.

The only thing City were guilty of yesterday was not being more ruthless in the final moment.

Yeh, on the second half Bellamy seemed to take up his position and Kim shifted more to the right of the pitch.

I personally found his decision making to be too slow yesterday. There was no urgency to his play.

Agreed, scared to make a real pass so gave it to another player that took a speculative shot.

Have we forgotten his deflected shot onto the crossbar so soon? :? :D

The MOTD analysis of this game was ridiculous.

Re: KIM created most chances in league yesterday

I dont call running into a blind alley then passing it back to the edge of the box for a shot with 5 defenders closing the person taking the shot "creating" a chance myself.

I thought Kim was very frustrating on Saturday. He wants far too much too many touches and time on the ball and loses it in dangerous areas.

After Bellers 2nd half performance I would rather see him in the hole behind the striker than Kim.

Good shout mate! Kim was brilliant yesterday, nearly scored. Whittingham was a liability again!
